I am not sure if RAM load could be affected by pali's kernel-power, but mine went down about 20 Mb (both when idle).

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v47

I absolutely love how every single update since the original nokia PRs, of every major system package (I.E. Nokia PRs, CSSU, and Kernel Power), there's a large chunk of people who notice speed improvements, when the package doesn't in any way change the stuff that effects speed.

Of course, to be fair, it's possible that something speeds up right after a new system-wide update, perhaps because of some deep down workings in some of the closed binary blobs on the N900... but I just don't see that as likely. On the other hand, I'm sure there's been times when I've fallen victim to the same placebo perception effect. *Shrug*

For my part, I don't perceive any increase in speed. But that might be just me being odd, or alternatively, me getting the same placebo effect in reverse from perception. That said usually when code likely to increase performance speed is introduced, people comment on the matter, so lack there-of suggests no such patches.

They're not included. But they're supported. So if you already use them, you can update to this and keep using them.

It WILL break multimedia left on its own, ioctl codes differ from those in stock kernel. That is why I put several userland libraries in the zip. Using them as replacements should allow existing functionality not to be broken. Do not put this patch in release even in extras-devel until I am ready with other packages. I think I it NOT good idea to include this patch to power kernel in extras(-devel). I think is better to upload it _only_ to this forum (or to server).

This is big risk to break system...

only some usbnet and serial and modem.

if you need specified kernel module in power-kernel (which is disabled in building), write it.

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v47

Here are my observations about 47

1. Mediabar disappeared until the second re-boot after 47 installation.
2. Conky reports a Battery temp of 406° C, which is way too hot. On the upside it also reports 3909000mV so I am "loaded for bear" on my voltage.
3. QCPUFreq reports CPU temperature of 378°C:eek:
4. My Nokia hands video nows plays smoothly and fully where it did not with 46.
4. SMS function is normal.
5. Install was unremarkable.
6. Noted no other changes.

If its kernel power 47 which i just update through app manager, why did it still say "pali1" not "kernel power 47" when i type (uname -r) ?

Mentalist Traceur 2011-05-04 02:56

Re: [Announce] kernel-power v47

Oi..

Battery temp and voltage get reported differently with this kernel version. This has been known since page 2-3 of this thread. Go annoy the devs of packages that use bq27x00_battery values. Basically, the earlier versions supposedly should've been reporting the value the way this one does, but since the previous versions didn't, software got written accordingly.

The My Nokia Hands video played smoothly for me on all kernels. no clue what was off about your version 46 if it didn't for you before.

It says pali1 instead of power47 because Pali is so badass he hacked the maemo.org repository, and changed all package version strings to mention him. (Or the crazy conspiracy theory: It's to get newbs to ask about it because pali is a masochist like that.)

Seriously, it's because palims the one who compiled this and at some point he made the version string say pali1 in the control file and then he forgot to change it. That's life, **** happens. Also, if it wasn't power-kernel you wouldn't have been able to download it. apt-get doesn't lie. Either it's the same exact package in the repository system, or it's not.

Mind sharing how you did that?

I'm having difficulties with upgrading to v47.Seems like the pesky v46 does not want to be removed.Multiboot keep generating boot file for v46 even though I managed to install v47.

No it is not. I don't want to clone KP but to enhance it. And btw extras-devel IS for software one takes risk to have broken system if installs SW from it. Read the wiki. And how is current (v47) better when it is breaking userland functionality (battery readings) . I am sure you have missed my point, don't like the other options.

So in case I have been unclear - I am trying to allow n900 users to be able to play/record 720p video on their devices. dspbridge driver upgrade is just first step. gstreamer-dsp, gstreamer-openmax, libbridge, omapfb - those are userland packages which have to be upgraded/installed too. I still don't have them packaged for upload to extras-devel , that is why I said that kernel patch should not be included in KP until those parts are ready. It does not mean it will burn you, your house or your n900 if installed, OK? And I think it is always better if anyone else but me is able to test/evaluate such huge patch, that is why I attach zip file here. Once I am ready with above mentioned packages(assuming there is kernel support) I plan to talk with MAG/nicolai to implement support for 720p in OMP and CUI2 respectively. But all this depends on kernel, agree?

I saw you recently become a part of CSSU team, well, tell me, should we hang MAG for including QT 4.7.2 with broken raster renderer in CSSU and breaking most of QT apps?

I really appreciate your efforts and hard work of being maintainer of KP and part of CSSU team, please, respect my work too.

got the same issue. I did it from command-line instead and that worked. But I guess that update should be possible to do from the package manager as well.
Anyone who can clarify?

About the multiboot feature, is that like uboot or what do I have to do to boot from SD?
Nothing happened when I put in my SD with the MeeGo dev. on it. Maybe I'm not quite getting how its supposed to work.

Had the same problem with FAM; resolved it by having a tremendous amount of patience and ran HAM once, which resolved it. HAM came up with 2 updates instead of one (dependency problem ?) and managed to upgrade to the latest version.

I updated to the new kernel too and I LOVE IT !
My phone is much faster, snappier than almost ever before, and I have tried a lot !
PKv47, latest CSSU update, LV, CPU 250 - 805 MHz with SmartReflex Enabled .

Woohoo, I Luv my phone !

Welcome to talk.maemo.org dear devel. Prepare yourself to complete shaitstorm of our dear fellow and eager testers that do not have time to read. Also thanks to this places very very open environment that allows all kinds of conversation going on so that we do need only tiny winy moderation. It has proven to be effective way since dawn of vbulletin *facepalm*. At least we have effectively managed to drive away some devels that do not have so called thick skin.

So do not wonder why some devels like to hang out rather in IRC and mailing lists :|

Multiboot-kernel-power package is not needed anymore, because everything needed for multiboot is in kernel-power-bootimg package now.

yes, it's true, because multiboot-kernel-power refers to v46 i think. (correct me if i'm wrong). I manually renamed files (bootimage and entry for multiboot) and got working n11 vostok witk kp47 on maemo. I don't know it has implemented this wl1251 drivers? For me packet injection is working.

If we can provide correct update dependences and it will be tested that it works, then there is no problem.

But I need know this: What happends if I update only kernel with dsp patches? It is possible to boot phone (but all videos will be closed/crashed)?

And for bq27x00_battery module: This modele is not in default stock Nokia kernel. So it does not break anythink...

I did absolutely nothing. Just loaded the bleeding edge wifi driver on top of kernel v47. it seems to integrate, is everything working properly? i am not the right person to answer that. Linux gurus can answer that. But i can tell you that lsmod output does show wl1251 loaded and being used. I have not had any problems so far. I am behind a wireless router.

I have your temperature widget right here:

Code:

Put that in your | and smoke it. Now shut up and let the man code.

Yes, you should :)
(But that wouldn't help with the bug would it now?)

Back on topic, OMP uses mafw, and so does the stock player, if anything needs to be done to get 720p playback, it's in mafw-gst-renderer's sources (which aren't that bad to read tbh, lots of comments to help you find your way through etc)
