Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

hi, i have to tell you MAG, you already know this, but you are one of the few that keeps our little old device out of being obsolete

thank you very very much for this

anyway, i use a lot my mediaplayer, and even when i'm full of curiosity about this open media player, i don't want to tempt fate and spend a few days without music, that's why i didn't try this app yet

but there are a two features that i would like to see and i think (for what i read in this thread and in gitorious) that are not present yet (please ignore them if they are already present, but as i said, i didn't test it yet)

1- a "now playing" notification, yes, i know there is already an app for this, but it's really slow and IMHO an "email like" is not the proper way to display a notification.
what i want to see it's something like this (quoting your own post)
http://i46.tinypic.com/2eppq14.jpg

2- an open, customizable, and embedded version of locked media player control, the last gift from qwerty12, it's really useful and i guess you could do it configurable and for those who don't want it could be even disabled

so, that are the 2 features i think they are a must, again, please ignore if they are already present, and if are not, could you implement them?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I've searched the thread and also read through the 25 pages and did not see a mention of this issue:

1 - Speaker icon volume slider position has no impact on volume output by speakers.
2 - Speaker icon volume slider does not track with volume notification slider summoned by the physical volume rocker.

Expected behavior - speaker icon volume slider will change output level to speakers and will track with the volume notification slider summoned by the use of the physical rocker for volume.

I'm running CSSU 15 and power46 OMP Build date Apr 13 2011 21:58:31

edit -This behavior seems to be limited to the Internet Radio function. I tried it this morning playing a stored music file and the slider tracked the notification bar and the speaker output was raised and lowered appropriately. /edit
If this has been mentioned previously I apologize for missing it

if u are really commit to them try to split the time u expend in them more equally.

most of us think u really stopped developing this. thanks for not dropping it.

Think MAG will decide how he uses his time. He isn't paid from anyone over here, so don't tell him how to work, just say thanks en be grateful . . .

Hi all. Hacked the entertainment view into a car view, and thought I might share. I had these goals in mind:
* No distraction - keep only the essentials
* Good visibility - Artist/Album/Song readable at a glance in difficult light when shuffling and discovering something new
* Controls (especially next-button) usable without looking

Attached screenshots:
* Default view
* Tap text to hide it and show a clock for privacy:)
* Swipe right-to-left for playlist

If you'd like to try, unpack the tar.gz in /opt/mediaplayer/qml. Be warned that this nukes the default entertainment view:
# root
# cd /opt/mediaplayer/qml
# cp entertainmentview.qml entertainmentview.orig.qml
# tar xzvf /PATHTO/carview.tar.gz

BTW: Hacking those qmls is fun, highly recommended! Just close and open the entertainment view after your edit - no restart needed. Best start mediaplayer in the terminal to see errors and make use of console.log.

i did say thanks and its just an advice, i am not telling him to do it.
it sometimes nice say yes, i am working on this from time to time. especially if u have many projects.
i am software engineer, i dont code, i just direct, if ever stop reporting i would be fired since whole project its on the my shoulders.

one the problems with open source it's there is no commitment. if u are not to commit to it, its better to drop it an give it to someone else.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I'm looking forward to trying this out! I've tried many different media programs on my phone but they're all not quite right somehow - too fiddly to use, unstable, or (as in the case of Instinctiv) needing an internet connection or it locks up trying to find album art.

But one thing that instinctiv does well is it's modified ("instinctive") shuffle mode. If you skip a song it is less likely to 'randomly' choose a similar song later on. It I'm not sure how it works but i imagine if you skip a song it assigns that song's genre a point, and biases the random selection to the genres with the lowest points. Something like that.

Anyway great work!

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I'm trying to compile latest version of mediaplayer from gitorious.

I type in scratchbox :

qmake mediaplayer.pro

He said i need to set Qt Creator path but i don't use Qt Creator.

Anyone has a solution ?

Thanks :)

bsdmaniak 2011-07-27 23:19

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I find a solution.

1. install libqt4-dev package in scratchbox :
Quote:

fakeroot apt-get install libqt4-dev
2. Add this line in external-includepaths.pro
Quote:

QTCREATORINSTALLPATH=/usr/local
3. Change scratchbox's target
Quote:

sb-conf select FREMANTLE_ARMEL
4. Compile Media Player
Quote:

qmake mediaplayer.pro
make

MohammadAG 2011-07-28 00:13

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

You could just take out the include(external-includepaths.pro) line in the .pro file.
I'll change it to warning() rather than error() later.

CepiPerez, I've went over the patch, it just needs some de-maemo-ification (like hardocded paths (/home/user)) and some layout changes (so it matches the coding style), as well as some variable name changes and I'll send it "upstream", major thanks for it :)

Anyway, here's a binary for those interested
http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/mediaplayer_cepiperez

Code:

wget http://mohammadag.xceleo.org/mediaplayer_cepiperez -O /usr/local/bin/mediaplayer
replaces the one installed from the first post.

Possible with this update to edit mp3 tags?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Are there limits to the song length? I tried the mp3 from this podcast post: http://tim.geekheim.de/2011/07/25/ns...-petzenberger/ (find MP3-Version: Mediendatei). It is >4 hours long. The new player binary shows 46.58 only and when scrolling through the file the time counter is reset on full hours.

The original player is able to show the full time counter with hour digits.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

for me the updated version doesn't work well. When clicking to play a song it gets stuck and plays a diffrent song. I installed the old version again.

Hey MohammadAG!
Thnx for the wonderful addition to the stock media player!

I request a feature:
in the entertainment view or otherwise, upon typing the name of the song, focus should be changed to the song.
its a pain to scroll through a list of ~4000 songs.

Thnx.

This is a feature of the OMP app. In the Options menu you can check a box that will make sure music is turned off when exiting the app, just like the stock Media Player.

[QUOTE=wumpwoast;1063811]This is a feature of the OMP app. In the Options menu you can check a box that will make sure music is turned off when exiting the app, just like the stock Media Player.[/Thanks for the heads up... ill check that box... but also and this is a pain... if im listing to lets say radio 5 live on my stock player, and at another time I was listening to lets say radio 4 on the OMP, what I find is if im listing to 5 live and then for what ever reason the stock goes into buffering mode when it reconnects im then listening to radio 4!!! so I have to stop the omp and set 5 live again. this only started once i install the OMP. Now when Im playing the OMP and it stops and buffers.... when it reconnects ill be listening to soo other randon station so I have to stop that and put it back to what I was listening too.

Any ideas a n

Loz

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

I've actually replaced /usr/bin/mediaplayer with the OMP binary. Of course, back up your old /usr/bin/mediaplayer somewhere safe! When doing this, I think most audio widgets will ONLY use OMP. This might get rid of contention between OMP and MediaPlayer for setting the "current audio source".

Be forewarned that gPodder seems to have trouble playing audio / switching over to OMP.

Tried this and got things all pair shaped... coding is not really my thing so maybe Im not fully understanding where Im getting thing right or wrong hence why a download of a fully working and sorted app is better for me than having to tweek what Im not sure of so for the moment Im gonna remove it from my phone and wait for the final version. But I must say to all involved its a great copy of the Media player and Im hoping the final will come with much more than the original ie for one EQ with independant sliders!!, maybe a spectrum analizer? and lastt Id like to see in the radio player the ability to view radio stations that offer live streams from time to time... ie 5 live but having to go to the bbc website to view.

Maybe a big task but non the less id even pay for that app!.

Thanks for now will keep a close eye on this thread.

Loz.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Alpha release of Open Media Player

Feature request (don't know if possible): Support for "CD-Number" (Part-of-Set) id3 tag!

The stock player still doesn't have it and it drives me crazy as I have a lot of multi-CD albums and I don't want to retagg them all with ridiculous track numbers (plus track numbers > 255 are not well supported out there).

iirc this has to be implemented in the music scanner though, not in the player gui. Any chance?

Going by the install script there are 4 files copied/created
1, /usr/local/bin/mediaplayer
2, /opt/mediaplayer/qml/entertainmentview.qml
3, /opt/mediaplayer/qml/Slider.qml
4, /usr/share/applications/hildon/omp.desktop

So to remove OMP from the system:
root
rm /usr/local/bin/mediaplayer
rm /opt/mediaplayer/qml/entertainmentview.qml
rm /opt/mediaplayer/qml/Slider.qml
rm /usr/share/applications/hildon/omp.desktop
