press the menu button, and select settings.. there you have font size and translation font size.. select them and resize (normally font size 32 and translations 26 is good p.s. if you use english translation) :)

You can't adjust or change any settings in the newest version... there is a bug... :p

MSameer 2011-09-07 10:45

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

Just tap on the setting itself and you can change it :)

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

Yup, bug confirmed on my device also. Overall, this is versatile and very useful app. Now if only we could have the correct Quranic font...

i checked it.. no problem on my side.. :)

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

I am not sure if it's something in the way I have setup my mobile or the app itself, is their a way to stop the backlight going off when using this great app I am having to touch part of the screen to extend the backlight!!!

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

@ejasmudar @cloud596 @eefo Please try to describe the problem. Everything works fine here.

@Jigzy The app will not stop the screen dimming. That could be implemented though.
The risk here if you forget the app open and left your phone for an hour. You will come back to find that you ran out of battery.

The font might not be solvable.
All the fonts I've seen require fixing somehow and all of them prevent you/me from modifying the font.

Creating a new font is something I cannot personally do. We will have to live with what we have unfortunately :(

@Msameer , can you please write how to change the font , like as you said just tap on the setting needed to be changed .
and that's what i did , tapped on font size and nothing but a small new window popped up with the title font size and nothing else :S

MSameer 2011-09-07 12:00

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

You change the setting by tapping exactly like you did. I don't know why is the dialog empty. I guess it's a bug.

Is everything else in that page working fine ?

prankster 2011-09-07 12:28

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

nope ,every thing is same as eefo quoted ,fonts, orientation, translation etc etc,,all are appearing as eefo said a moment ago .it is quite a bug .

Are you guys using CSSU by any chance ?

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

yup,its cssu 16 ..just updated n i guess before that it was all okey ..so is there any cure ?

MSameer 2011-09-07 13:17

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

I have a spare device that has been updated to latest CSSU and I can reproduce the issue.

I'm sure a workaround can be found. I'll see what I can do.

ejasmudar 2011-09-07 13:19

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

Yeah, there have been reports of other QT apps developing bugs after CSSU. Maybe this is related. Transtech and Msameer, are you guys not using CSSU?

As for the font, can you please explain where/what the errors/mismatch between font and text are? My google-ing tools arew at the ready, and maybe I can help you to find a solution. I mean, aftarall, there are plenty of Quran apps for iOS, android, symbian, etc which work correctly. So a solution MUST be there.

MSameer 2011-09-07 13:39

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

I'm not using CSSU. I'm using PR 1.3 only.

I don't understand what's the font problem everybody is complaining about ?

would you be able to implement it in settings as to how long you would want the backlight to remain on? so after lets say 5mins it would go dim?

ok found the problems... (they are a lot of 'em) .. caused by cssu16 update might be with qt4.7.4 or something..
below are the screenshots of where the problem is exactly.. :(

This is old symbian app

I would like to have a similiar quranic font

MSameer 2011-09-07 14:51

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

@Jigzy the timeout can be done. Or if the page has not been changed for say 10 minutes then we stop preventing the screen from dimming.

I think I found a fix for the dialogs. I'm yet to see if it works with PR 1.3.
I couldn't find a fix for the virtual keyboard in the goto page dialog. I'll try to do something but I'll remove that keyboard if I fail to fix it.

As for the font:
Some apps are using images for the text. I'm not going to use that.

If someone is aware of a font that can be used then speak up. I simply don't have it.

The old symbian app doesn't look like it's using a special font. It's just a bit better than the one I use :).

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

cssu 16 has Qt version 4.7.4 ,you might wanna dig it in..cssu update is nice and every one would like to have it cuz soon we gonna see harmattan apps are gonna be ported through this version as MAG stated .So Msameer if you could do something about it ? eh ?

MSameer 2011-09-07 17:45

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

0.3.7-1 is out!

* Fixes for CSSU 16/Qt 4.7.4
* Added a button to each chapter in the index page to allow going to a verse and removed the dedicated button
* Convert the manage translations button to an entry in the settings page.

Please note that it's possible in the future to see breakage with CSSU. I personally don't use it and don't test the software with it.

In case of a breakage, please report it here and state that you are using CSSU. I'll then try to fix it as long as I have that spare device :)

As seen in your screenshots earlier, the font displaying 'Surah Al-Fatiha' & the sample text shown on the 'settings' page is what is desired by many users as it resembles widely used font for Quranic texts. Also you can see two different fonts in the 'index' page & 'favorites'.

Current version of the app uses a font similar to that shown on the 'index' page screenshot.

thank you. don't use images. And it might defeat search function.

1. KFGQPC Uthman Taha Naskh
"opentype font, is built based on Uthman Taha calligraphy (Calligrapher of Mushaf Al-Madina) by King Fahd Glorious Quran Printing Complex (KFGQPC). The font can be distributed freely for both commercial and non-commercial use, according to the license. One is not, however, allowed to modify the font or make derivative works upon it."
also, there are other fonts like Scheherazade & me_quran. (I'm unaware of usage rights, licences & distribution policies)
the Zekr project wiki page on Quran fonts might be useful

MSameer 2011-09-07 19:03

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

@anees

Using text will not affect searching at all. It will affect the ability to choose the font size. Text index is being built from a completely separate text file.

me_quran was used in the beginning and TransTech noticed that it was rendering "لفظ الجلاله" incorrectly.
Check the location of the shadda and fatha here: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...05&postcount=6

I know someone who might be able to fix that particular issue but the font license prevents us from modifying it. I'm stuck here and I can't do anything.

Scheherazade is the font being used now and people hate it.

I can give KFGQPC Uthman Taha Naskh a try if someone can help verify that there are no rendering issues.

I know someone who is creating an Amiri font http://www.amirifont.org/
He started doing a Quran extension fir it. Here's a sample: http://www.khaledhosny.org/files/tmp/quran.pdf

I know the guy personally and he can fix any problems with the font in a reasonable time.

I can use that font if most people like it.

I can also provide a custom build that has all the fonts available from zekr if someone can go through them and verify they display correctly.

Unfortunately there's nothing else I can do.

even after manually installed version 0.3.7-1 is out,i cant get it right Sameer.same problem ,cant change anything in settings ,text jumps over the screen when tap on fonts /translation/etc ..
when i click on ABOUT ( it shows 0.3.6 version ) am i missing something or this issue has to persist there cuz of latest cssu ? Besides what if you could have a chat with MAG on this to get to the solution ? There may be any new update from ssu community in the future ,so to avoid any error log in the quran app ?

Oh my bad :(

I forgot to ship the actual code changes.

How embarrassing...

I'm now uploading 0.3.8-1 with all the changes.

As for the CSSU issue, I don't think there's a solution.

Every Qt update should be tested. Someone must be willing to live on the bleeding edge and test it. I cannot do that as N900 is my primary phone and I don't feel I personally need CSSU.

However, I don't expect major breakage unless I do something a bit tricky :)

MSameer 2011-09-07 19:46

Re: [Announce] Holy Quran for N900

0.3.8-1 is out. Sorry for the mess.

You get all the changes for 0.3.7-1 (Really this time) + those changes :)

* Added the ability to access index page, goto page and goto part from the search page.
* Added the ability to access the search page from the index page.
* Added an option to centrally align text.

Now let's get back to the font discussion :D

Thanx for this app , we wait it for two years :)

my suggestions:

1- make an entry logo (splash, actually I dont know what's its name)

2- when we enter the app , it open index instead of open directly to verses

3- make an inside vkb for searching like that of searching for page number

that just suggestions , and we are waiting your great updates :)

1) A splash screen is unlikely to be implemented. It will slow the startup which is already slow.

2) Why do you want to see the index page when you launch it ? It will show the last page you were reading. The index can be accessed with just a tap on the page number at the bottom left.

3) I thought about doing it but there's already an Arabic keyboard layout for the vkb. I'll add that one to the TODO list anyway :)

1) startup is very fast in my device (I think because I overclocked it to 850)

2) you are right :D

3) if you make a vkb , can it be ported to use it as system vkb instead of the cureent one ???

and thanx for your replay :)

Startup is slow on my N900. No idea why but I need to start profiling it at some point. Enabling translations will make it a bit slower too.

I don't know if it can be ported or not but someone else has to do it. I'm not really free to carry the maintenance of another project :|

thanks latest version has no problems with cssu ,i hope u can manage things for the new updates
suggestions :
1- if swipe could be implemented and it was smooth too ? cuz to see arrows you have to scroll up/down and then you tap to move to next page.
2- i see translations options to add/install ,if tafsir option could be implemented in the same way ?

loving the portrait mode ,its cool and looks nice
waiting for audio output . thank for your great effort Sameer .
