Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
Wow look at this listing
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-TouchPad-...-/230664585087 One is going for $1300 with 36 bids. People are crazy man. If any of you managedto get one I will put Android on it for you and we can split the crazy profits :) Edit Aparently its a unique Qualcomm device and will get the owner a $1500 bounty for some reason... http://www.androidcentral.com/and-wi...chpad-qualcomm |

It reminds me of the clamour to get N64 games to run on the N900. Such a painstaking process and I wonder why people go to such trouble. |

There are already topics on the webos forums where the community are working on a patch for tethering. It is not just the n900 that the pad will not find. |

You got a link for that pic mate?
|
Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
That looks like the PCWorld website to me, but no trace of the HP Touchpad when I did a search on that site.

Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
Got my Touchpad today...
Overall Comgateway is pretty good, their price is the cheapest i've found so far. and the payment method is simple..but it's not recommended if you want fast delivery, it took them 4 days to register my tablet to their warehouse. (Shipito took less than 2 days usually) Anyways, been playing around with touchpad, i was wondering, is there absolutely no way to teether n900 with this? I tried mobile hotspot and joikuspot but none worked |
Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
Welcome to the club mate :)
As of yet, there is still no wifi tethering, but there is a topic on the pre central touchpad forum for a bluetooth tether that I have still yet to try. |

I have not tried it yet but it would be nice to see the n900 on that list. Had some success with vnc though :D but it does require ubuntu to be installed. |

Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
Actually, I could place a phone call using instructions on the youtube video, not sure if I can do a web browsing, I will post question back to precentral to see if web browsing was possible

Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
Gotta say, this post has to be the most interesting on the whole forum.
I am still trying to be sure that I understand injecting wifi drivers before giving it a shot. It might be asking if any of out maemo guys could help? Edit: check out post 6 of that thread (darn tp) |

It's back, but it appears, for now, only for the few and lucky HP employees. Any TMOer with HP that wants to share?

Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
I finally took the bite, and ordered one 32gb via eBay for $249+$9 s/h. My time is much more valuable than a mere $100... i can't or shouldn't afford to keep looking for like, weeks?
|
Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
@ don
I think that is the best route, i got myself one off ebay and another off amazon. HP has not given any garauntee that there will be enough for those who are still wanting to order at the fire sale price. And hanging around the HP forums, i really wish some of the tmo developers would look at developing apps for WebOS....yes it is a dream, but i think that webOS might just do the phoenix thing and rise from the ashes. |
Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
If the guy from facebook put his eye on WebOS we are pretty sure that they can face android with strong force. I mean, who in this planet doesn't have facebook today? In my country the 90% of the people seems to have a blackberrya t least, the rest is nokia (symbian) and android. But everybody use their phone to get on facebook ALL DAY. That means that there is a clear market to WebOS if facebook buys it.

Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
Just sold my TP, (for like twice the price :p)
I'm kinda dissapointed though, The browser is just terrible, there's no option to save password. and there's no tabs. I can't believe they release half-baked browser for their only tablet. Going from microB, (which is an excellent browser) this is just not good enough for me But the main reason i sold it is because it's wifi only, AND it does not work with Mifi that i just bought :( I thought i could use mifi to replace 3G, guess i'll have to look for a 3G tablet now.. |
Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
^That's just stupid. Can't you get a working MiFi?
Or is a problem with the TouchPad's wifi? It should be covered under 1yr warranty @HP. |

but i can't get it to work with mifi Maybe this explains why : http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touc...anet-mywi.html But I travel alot so i need a portable wifi, So this is a huge disadvantage for me. |
Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
I see, 'tis a shame.
You could've posted on here, some members/friends (..me) could've bought it rather than a stranger. Anyways, what are you thinkning of getting now? The OG SGTab, Amazon Fire, ASUS Transformer are good buys. If you want full USB with HOST, and full SDcard, and N-Pen... there's the ThinkPad Tablet. The PlayBook is not too bad either. |
Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
Has anyone else tried Splashtop on their TP?
It is very nice with win7, I wonder if we can make it access the n900 somehow? edit: here is crysis running through TP with sound streaming |
Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
Yes splashtop works pretty well.
regarding what someone said about the browser - mine auto saves passwords and if you want tabs get advanced browser from the app store. Flash works flawlessly and after installing some patches from preware its fantastic. on the negatives I have to send my touchpad back to HP for repairs as cracks have appeared on the top where the speakers are. Shocking at built quality especially from HP. The plastic will fall off if I continue. Apparently this is a known issue and HP customer service were excellent in arranging pick up for repair. if anyone else notices these cracks appearing call HP asap. |
Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
Gotta agree with you on advanced browser, I don't use tabs too much on the touchpad but the ability to "swipe" in browser to go back to last page was something I have wanted for ages. WebOS is a swipe monster but lacked this simple gesture. I am very happy now.
Sorry to here about the cracks afaq, hope you get it replaced soon mate. It's nice to know a few maemo-ians owning them too. |
Re: HP WebOS TouchPad for $99!
classic hp build quality. I own an elitebook 2710p tablet for less than 6 months (and use it for a few hours every day, I now have a desktop at work) and the palmrests have already worn off. (Not wearing a watch or anything, just normal usage) My previous laptop (dell precision) which I had for more than a year and used for more than 10 hours a day is like new.

Regarding hotspot connectivity, I was not able to use MobileHotspot on the N900 with a GalaxyTab 10.1 too. And check your PreCentral link, it seems its a not-too-seldom issue for tablets. Anyway, Advanced Browser is ok, nothing special, but was just recently updated to open tabs in background. We are slowly getting there... And I can read eBooks in a good way with the Kindle application and sideloading. Quell HD and Jigsaw Master are addictive too... |
