Heads up ppl. Next week I'll be releasing a demo for the new ui that is written in qml.
since it is a lot of work and i mean a *lot* to make it really work, the debs that will be released will show fake data that is written in the code.
since i am using qtcomponents to quicken the ui development, the demo debs will only be released for N9/N950 at first.
Hints for new treats:
1) Grid mode (New feature that doesnt exist the official waze afaik)
2) Portrait
etc..
please be kind to play with the new ui and convey u'r thoughts once u try it out

On waze for N900, about reports with a picture attached, when i tap on the "attache icon" to see the picture, it says downloading and then failed to load picture. is this a known issue?

i think it is a problem with the network compression that i have yet to fix...
anyway, taking a picture for a report is not implemented yet

Hi All.

Just wanted to know when the next release will be, because for this time we should be on the release 0.0.9 and I only see the release 0.0.7

Thank you very much, I was used to install the app directly from the google apps page, but this is so much better, thanks for the pointer.

Uploading the new UI demo clip to youtube, its 10min in length and 1GB in size. Probably end by morning :(

On the bright side, I expect to see a lot of comments and new ideas about it in the coming week :D
And this time I will publish it on all possible channels (G+, Twitter, here), so no one that is tracking my movements will be able to miss it :P

Prenesting: "The New @Waze" (*** Qt port) demo - best viewed on a desktop - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWdzt7XENQ0

1) Please comment here if you have any new UI concept that you think should be integrated
2) All of the shown data is hardcoded in the code - don't expect it to do anything other than let you experience some of the UI
3) This UI has the following known issues:
3.a) New Report UI looks bad in portrait
3.b) In the settings, if the first item is not selected in the options menu, you will have to scroll up to see all of the options
4) Nokia N9/N950 only - N900 is not supported at the moment
5) Icons are not final and some icons are missing
6) You can install it next to an existing Waze Qt release - it is not the same package name so it will not remove the existing install

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

If u'd like to play with the UI a bit, there's a deb for that: http://code.google.com/p/waze-qt/dow....0.1_armel.deb

Please read the notes from the prev reply before trying.

Thank you very much !
Cool ! Like it !!! Tried it ! Can't wait for real version :)

Some advices:
1) This bottom black line should be auto-hide
2) Big like for Grid mod - but the names under icons should be with a little bigger font and maybe other color for more contrast

Thank you for your work.
(P.S. donated today.)

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

I've installed the package to play with the new UI, and the first think that could be an improvement is the ability to swype between the pages when using the gridmode in the menus.

Another thing that I saw was that in portrait mode when you go to the alert menu and choose the hazard/traffic/Accident/camera options the camera and the different options gets one upper the other.

And also even when you open one of the options there should be a title saying what you're trying to report.

And when you activate the gridmode there's no way to go back ( i think this is only temporally, right?)

But I have to say, is looking really amazing, thanks a bunch for this and the other port, this makes me really comfortable that I pick up the correct phone.

True on that, but which is the trademark of this phone? The abilty of use the swype gesture to change between emails, songs, etc, that's why i said it could be an improvement. ;)

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

@gianko - the contacts that caused the crash - apparently there is a bug in the address book that makes some contacts corrupted and while working fine for some apps, it crash others. If you will try yappari (whatsapp for N900) it will crash as well, what was suggested there is to export the contacts, remove them from the phone and then import them back. I don't recommand doing it as you might lose your contacts if you done something wrong.

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

A suggestion for the new Waze version:
The ability to override the automatic day/night colour schemes.
An AMOLED-friendly colour scheme, similar to the night colour scheme, but the majority of the background black instead of dark grey.

A suggestion for the Ubuntu version:
The ability to set location by UI element or config file, for use without attached GPS.

I have had Waze crash at least three times approaching the same intersection on my way home. It has happened whether I am using navigation or not, but does not happen every time . Is this a known problem or should I try to capture the terminal output?

Am I the only one who is getting "Failed to communicate with the routing server" error on n900 past couple of days? I tried clean install, removed all the waze folders and purged the configs... nothing...

I know this is a little OT (im really really sorry) but have any of you been able to build waze for android ? I believe the last open official version was 2.4.0.23 or 26

Some of the needed files seem to be in older versions of the source.

Thanks for any and all thoughts.

sorry for the long delay in response but i was and still am busy with packing my home and moving to a new town. anyway:
1) the ability to disable auto set for day and night already exist in map settings if i remember correctly
2) you can also change the schema files yourself, its quite easy. set the colors in /opt/waze/data/skins/default/night/schema and copy the new file as MyDocs/.waze/skins/default/night/schema . i promise to add it :)
3) please set the log level to 1 (search this thread for instructions) make it crash again and upload the log to the issue tracker in the waze-qt project at google code. i will check it out

sorry to disappoint you, but the official waze was never fully opensourced (and they violated GPL license doing so). a lot of bugs that are fixed in the android version are not reflected in the released code. for that reason i had to bust my head many months and rewrite logic that they never released. Unlike the official waze, this port is fully open sourced and fill the gap that waze left. i have never tried compiling it to android as i never needed to so atleast for me the answer is: sorry, i havnt tried

even though i despise microsoft products, i find thier metro style ideal for the grid mode (in other words, ideal for ppl with limited hand movement) - see attached image

EDIT: restart waze after the change

The compression was not on. I did enable and disable it with restarts with no improvement.

It pulls traffic info and updates, warnings about cameras and such, shows my position but no navigation.

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

from Yappari thread i found a way to fix definitely the segfault issue, now i can also choose "go to contacts" and navigate without crash! :)

Quote:

People getting Segmentation Fault or std::bad_alloc when opening contacts (starting Yappari) have their address book corrupted (same for the people with Waze crashing when selecting contacts). They should export the contacts, go to Contacts -> Settings -> Delete all contacts from device, and re-import them, or maybe, import them one by one until you find the offender contact.

Indeed I can see a lot of communication issues to the routing server in the log but I'm afraid that the log is not detailed enough to let me see the entire picture. I will create a special deb for you with increased logging and some additional messages that will give me a better overview of the issue.
Which device are you using?

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

Well I thought it had something to do with my profile. So after a clean reinstall I've logged in under a new username and had the same issue on n900. I then tried an android phone with waze and had no issues.

So, my next step is perhaps flashing of n900 and trying waze again?

P.S. I'm also getting some funky errors with another application that I'm using so perhaps re-flashing is at this point a good idea

Ditto. Same routing problem.

With exception of known issues in v0.0.6 the routing was working perfectly. I briefly tried v0.0.9 and returned to v0.0.6 (after completely deleting all Waze folders). With reinstalled v0.0.6 the connection to routing server completely failed. I then completely deleted Waze folders again and reinstalled v0.0.6. Routing worked for about a week and now has started failing.

It is only the routing server that is failing. Downloads of maps and languages works perfectly.

What is the current correct URL for the routing server? I thought I saw a server update processed while driving.

Thanks for your efforts!

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

My waze port is based on the API that is working for Android's Waze 2.4. They have closed the source in version 3.0 which was released several months ago.

Could anyone with an Android phone check if Waze 2.4 still working correctly on thier phones?

If Waze are dropping support for the old API as part of a servers upgrade, it might explain the issue and if that is the case, I will change my release schedule, abort the planned UI changes and rewrite a more flexible request/response accessor to have easier way to move to the closed sourced 3.0 API. This is in the grey area of project legality which I have wished to avoid - but it looks like there is no other option.

Note: I am not working for Waze and they don't assist me in any way, so things will take time. please be patient

damagedspline 2012-06-21 03:58

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

Two questions to all affected with the routing issue:
1) Did you try to navigate to a location that conatined non English characters?
2) Did you have a solid position fix when attempting to navigate?

PdxDoug 2012-06-21 05:07

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

In my instances...almost always routing from Favorites (those that have worked for months).

I will pay more attention to the GPS fixing of my location before attempting routing. Although Waze has become very good at anticipating my route and starting the routing without my invoking it! I must be too predictable...

This is my favorite app on my two N900's!

gill_za 2012-06-21 16:00

Re: [Announce] Waze for N900/N9/N950

I have also navigated to my favorites only. The addresses are standard English characters. I did have a solid position fix each time. It fails constantly. I have also noticed that it displays: Preparing navigation voice: 0% all the time with the clean reinstall.

In addition I have tried qwazer app on n900 and it is able to pull the directions from the servers (altough it seems that that's all it does in terms of functionality so far)
