Re: Will you buy the Jolla phone?

I made a 100 eur pre-order to Estonia. I really hope that all goes well with Jolla, product is delivered in Q4 2013 and that final Jolla product will be less in size having way smaller upper and lower screen bezel area and that it is not as thick as the demo unit was.

Well, Similar to AMD, I'm from Iran, Where no Jolla smartphones would be available even in the 1H of 2014. But unlike Lebanon, People in some Iranian gadget forums know Jolla, But did they pre-order ?
I own the god sent N9, but I want to give it to my father and buy a new phone. Sorry me, but I hate Android and all it's OEMs. Not to mention Apple.
If I want to buy the upcoming EOS then I have to tolerate WP8's unbelievable basic feature scarcity .
I really don't know what to do. Should I wait for the not-surely coming Jolla which have no warranty and many other things, Or I buy the gorgeous Aluminum EOS with it's great camera?
Thanks for help in advance.

Well, I doubt, seriously doubt it'll come to Lebanon UNLESS somewhere in the middle east gives serious attention to Jolla, therefore it'd be distributed all around the ME. Well, I hope this happens, but I have 0.1 % that it could ever happen. :/

Re: Will you buy the Jolla phone?

What's the problem with the distribution? Back in the day, the Nokia N9 was not avaliable in my country (Spain) and I managed to get my hands on a device, pursached online a Australia-packaged version (different power plug, didn't know it :() from a retail store in United States (another country without N9 support).
The phone traveled from all the world from Sydney - Hawaii - Indianapolis - Paris - Madrid - MY HOUSE.
If you really want the phone, and don't care about the hurry and the inmediate avaliability from the launch, you would manage to get your hands on one, like i did with the N9 :)

I literally don't care if it takes 3 months to arrive, I just want it to come!

Leinad 2013-06-19 21:35

there's a new kid in town, it's called online-shop!

N9 also was not available in my country, so i ordered it from Amazon, problem solved!

Until then my friend ;)

Sorry me, but what if there's no online shopping nor Amazon access nor that silk road like Stockholm - Istanbul - Tehran - MY HOUSE for me?
any suggestions gentlemen? How can I get Jolla then?

With this MS acquisition of Nokia is heating, I really doubt that I'll buy the EOS.
these days the whole life sucks.

Re: Will you buy the Jolla phone?

Ask a friend/relative who is staying in the list of supported countries to buy it for you. Then get them to courier it to you. That's essentially what I'm doing.

Worst case scenario - find someone here on TMO (or some other forum) that you hope is trustworthy enough to buy the Jolla device for you and send it over.

GUYS!!!!!

I posted a thread not too long ago, saying you can use a mail forwarding service. You use their European address, then they send it to you. Simple!

Check out www.bongous.com

Check out www.bongous.com

That seems to be an american corporation. Propably very limited use for edi_opteron.

Considering the trade embargo USA has against Iran and the legal trouble americans get into if they do Iran related business.

Re: Will you buy the Jolla phone?

If you order from a European retailer (Jolla is Finnish), it gets sent to their European office in Switzerland, and sent from there to your home.

Pretty sure they'd deliver to Iran and Lebanon

Re: Will you buy the Jolla phone?

Anyhow, I've contacted Jolla lots of times, soon I'll know whether it'll be available in my country or not. But there might be a chance that it will be. Because they'll never gain fame if they don't make it available in places that no one knows about them. I hope it can be region-unlocked later on

I praise every single word that you said. That's exactly one of the biggest problem.
Even with the assumption that Jolla will be available in Mid-East in first half of 2014 ( wishful thinking you know! ) it won't officially sell it's product in Iran due to sanctions.
To make things worse, Dollar is now priced three times more than the local currency!! Meaning, I should pay triple. I can deal with the price, hardly, but the availability and the warranty remain obscure .
Have I mentioned the worst? :D , I've no relative in the EU.
life sucks indeed at this point.
Guys, one question. Jolla does not support ALL Android apps. The question is, can Joll run some medical apps like the human anatomy, drugs and Dorland dic. ?
I asked WP users, no such apps are at WP store. Another reason not to buy the EOS...

to all the people hoping for a hardware keyboard:

jolla sailfish doesn't have a landscape mode.

sorry.

I've just pre order(without pre-payment) a device even if it's a fifty-fifty chance that I actually go through with the purchase.

what exactly is the mode of order confirmation? How is the voucher recieved? i.e is it electronic and comes via mail or is it something that arrives by post.

To further this my (now)ex-colleague told me the jolla voucher is well recieved, and is actually a physical card. I'm getting a little nervous, dont want to be duped...

I can't speak for everyone else, but in my case, I only received an email and nothing else. I went more or less the same route as you - I ordered the device, but placed the billing and shipping address as that of my relative in the UK.

If you (or the person who ordered it) hasn't received the email, ask them to check their junk mail folder - apparently it has a tendency of ending up there.

However, to be absolutely honest (and I mean no disrespect), I think your friend/ex-colleague/UK friend or whoever else sounds like they are blowing smoke up your rear. Who exactly is responsible for the misinformation I can't tell you for sure.

for got sake.

You atleast have too wait three more month before cry.

The device will not be released before christmas anyway.

Why the is it so important now exact specs? If you want the latest and greatest go get some Samsung device. A startup company will not have latest and greatest blablabla XXX cool kids specs.

Use you brain instead to think what is realistic:

Expect some Dual Core from mid 2012 or something similar. and hopefully BT4.0 and NFC and a decent 8mpix camera.

Everything else is a bonus.

So according to you Jolla don't like to have customers? The reason that I want spec or information now is that Jolla promoting some kind of exclusive pre-order with T-shirt and other half and would be fair to release proper information before the end of the campaign. I think unfair to have preorder without proper information. That's all.

I am sure the specs match the price what to expect for 300EUR.

I agree there IS some specs that they could release now without problem NFC(probadly yes) and if BT4.0 that would not hurt. But My guess is your spec hysteria(and others) is anout exact what SoC and GPU? And that is not something they just can share for already said reason.

But giving exact specs so what? No one would win on that anyway because users is always has ridicilous big expectations.

And this has been discussed before releasing specs before they have started MANUFACTORING would KILL the company, simply because there are bigger evil players like samsung and maybe also small players like canonical that would make sure there where no components to buy for Jolla.

I would def be more pissed of that. Than if some specs is not exact what I expected.

This is the facts small players cannot go out buy go 1 million SoC:s in one tinnot go out buy go 1 million SoC:s in one time. me.

Big players who has cash get em first. But I guess people will ignore this simple facts over and over again and continue complain even after they release the specs :(

Artyom 2013-06-22 23:05

Probably the main(real) reason is that the exact specs aren't definite. Just like the design, specs can be changable.

Also true, probadly cause they want to see how many are willing to pay and then decide volume vs SoC etc...

Artyom 2013-06-22 23:31

Re: Will you buy the Jolla phone?

Most of people who wants to know more info on specs just want to know what cpu, gpu and ram the device will use. I'm sure about this. I know all you people want to see a powerful device with the os that you're interested besides android and ios. Believe me, as an ex symbian user I wanted to see that on symbian devices since 2009. but who gave a **** about the cpu and gpu when they bought the n9?
I didn't. I know most of you didn't. so sometimes specs doesn't sell right?

They don't give any info about the exact specs so,
All roads lead to the fact that they don't have an exact spec sheet at the moment. maybe no chip partners yet? I also doubt that the first other half devices had dual core chipsets on them. They even might have used some n950's to build them!

my point is if you really appreciate the work they are doing at least make the 0 euro preorder to show your interest.

the problem here is that they need to get things done very very fast and find good partners because 2014 might be late to show something that's unique for the end user. copycats everywhere! (ios7 etc.)

biatch0 2013-06-23 09:37

Re: Will you buy the Jolla phone?

IMO there's not much point in Jolla releasing specs right now. Would I like them to release specs? Sure. Do I understand why they aren't releasing specs? Yes.

Imagine they released specs tomorrow. Quad Core 2GHz CPU. 2GB RAM. Wow right? Not really - by the time the device is available to the pre order customers (nevermind the general public), those specs would be painfully outdated and the folks at Samsung would probably be selling a 16 core with 64GB RAM (random specs pulled out of my rear) as their flagship. Be patient, and understand that you aren't the only person who would love to know finalized specs and that Jolla knows this very well.

First I got ultra wet when Ive heard that MeeGo get's developed from other persons. Nokia really dived into the toilet going with Microsoft imho.

But even after 1 year of waiting you guys never really released any hardware specs. You just post some photos of the phones. I don't buy a phone without knowing what I will get, just because the OS is great.

So I cannot tell you If I'm going to buy your phone. But if the hardware is great, and I really can use a hardware keyboard. You will get my money.

I'm a MeeGo fanboy afterall.. I hope you get rid of the bugs the N9 has.
