Are people suggesting we leave Chuck Norris out of this?

Or

Do we need to introduce Chuck Norris into other threads?

(we could level the playing field, we could all join the official Chuck Norris forum and talk about PR 1.2 ?!?!)

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and Chuck Norris

surely moving this to off-topic breaks the house rules? PR 1.2 is very much... on-topic?

surely the lame Chuck Norris posts are the ones off topic not the thread? How will people know when Pr1.2 is released without a PR1.2 thread?

People will now assume that Pr1.2 is out and hence the thread has been sent to the place where good threads go to die... i.e that of off-topic...

Im sorry if I offend someone but surely sending important threads to off-topic as soon as they get the odd Chuck Norris joke defeats the point of having a forum? I would also like to appologise for using the Chucks name in vein. :P

this hasn't been on topic since post #10 .....

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and Chuck Norris

The thread was on-topic for more than 10 posts but point taken ;)

Still though, is it safe to assume that this thread will be updated once pr1.2 is released? There's already a "PR1.2 published" thread... You see nokia this is what happens when you leave us with no date and no word on the release, anarchy, choas and confusion!

Perhaps Nostradamus didn't see the end of the world as being 20012 but rather the release of pr 1.2, Nooooooo!

pity........the longest, truthful and the most active thread has been termed off-topic from day 1

hmm... its one of reasons for many of us or rather for me to get hooked into talk.maemo

I agree. I visit mainly only this thread. As I am sure most other members are mainly interested in the pr1.2 update due to its hype.

So, its gone a little off topic, but there is only so much speculation you can have... its either
1) coming soon
2) not coming at all
3) nokia dont like us

Keeping things on topic check out this videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHsLs-QZyMg

Thats pr1.2 in hongkong. Thats what the fuss is about. We might be able to move a few icons. I know there are more features of 1.2 but this is the one that is on youtube.

i'm not sure it breaks the rules, but it cerainly is against my humble understanding of the english phrase "off topic". a thread speculating about the release date of an update for maemo5 needs to be in the "maemo 5" section, of course.

see also this short explanation here:

So very few of the posts here are "speculating about the next firmware" apart from "wah, where is its?!!1!"; and the majority is just noise that the thread is, now, very much off-topic. That it may have been on-topic in the past, or be intended to be on-topic is by-the-by.

(I wasn't involved in the move, but it seems sensible).

However, I can imagine another option - for all the people clamouring for more heavy handed moderation - this thread moves back out of Off-topic and every off-topic post gets deleted.

I'm sure there'll be plenty of posts and threads when PR1.2 is released - it's not going to be missed just because this thread is in a different sub-fora. Hell, if nothing else, you'll get a flashing orange triangle.

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and Chuck Norris

I think I overcooked the "rules" bit as I wanted to be able to then apologise in the post and add the witty apology to Chuck ;)

Still though I check this thread every day and my main point is that it's been relegated to a Chuck Norris theme I'm worried that I will have to look else where for desperate scraps of pr 1.2 news :(

This is a sad, sad day for the PR1.2 thread. I am now going to close down my maemo tab without reading other threads, in sadness of this moderation accident.

And ossipena will not miss me, and suggest I buy an Iphone.

Chuck Norris keeps an extra copy of 1.2 in his beard.

Sorry if that jokes been made - but I only have limited time in the day to get through the almost 3000 posts here.

On another note - this definitely qualifies as off topic

I mean: I could, 8 years ago, edit a .doc file in my Palm using Documents to Go, ready to use and supported by the device from day 0.

Maybe you're a very experienced user but most people is not. I do use too wireskark, iptraf and many other ip/network stuff, but man, how can you be on nokia side when they don't even support OviSuite.

Re: Speculation about the next firmware (PR1.2) and Chuck Norris

As large as this thread seems, let's face the reality. We (users anxietly awaiting the PR 1.2) are just a tiny fraction of N900 owners. Most of them probably don't really care. I think we have created an illusion of all N900 users clicking on the update button all day long. I have realized how few people do this, when I checked the bug with the Mozilla catalog (cf. http://mobile.support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/5/372?) ... I filed the bug yesterday and only one fellow user confirmed the issue. So things may work a little differently outside our maemo.org community ;-)

Well, yeah, but all of us here are kind of the hardcore cutting-edge user selection :D

But if you know anybody else in your real lives who cares about PR 1.2 then I would say you are happy :-)

Actually the only other guy with N900 that I know in person does not share the excitement about the new firmware update, yet he is programmer/geek and he actually lead me to the idea of buying the N900.
