Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

right, ive formatted my card again and gone through the entire process again from start to finish and I still get the same issues once booted into android

I get a constant stream of errors for the following making it completly unusable

com.android.deskclock
com.android.sipdroid
com.android.amazon.mp3
com.android.mms
com.google.android.gm
com.android.providers.calendar
com.android.bluetooth
android.process.media
com.android.email
com.android.voicedialer
com.google.android.apps.maps
com.google.android.apps.googlevoice
com.android.inputmethod.latin
com.android.quicksearchbox
com.google.process.gapps
com.android.settings
com.google.android.talk
com.android.launcher

The previous build of Android to this (the one with the broken wireless) I didnt get any of the above and Android seemed to work quite well

Anyone any ideas to the potential cause of the problems above

Cheers

Any special trick to show up Jay-C Bootmenu? after flashing the standart kernel and following the new instructions, the bootmenu is not showing up anymore.

Do you know where I can get the flasher for windows and the other files you mention?

http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_t...ndows_7_32-bit

follow the link above and download necessary files.

What do you mean flashing the standard kernel? I thought the bootmenu now handles all flashing.

And I assume you're already opening the keyboard on bootup.

just wanted to clear something out:

* installing android will flash files on your phone?
* android runs and is installed directly from a mem card?
* if you remove the card, will the phone work with a maemo os without any problem?

*yep, but it doesn't seem to have a bad effect on anything except FM Receiver.
*Yep. It's awesome, too.
*That's right.

I flashed the nitroid dualboot kernel, and had the boot menu running. Now i wanted to have the new method, since i got sick of R&D mode and some strange problems with the modified kernel. I just flashed the PR1.2 Kernel, removed the bootmenu and than followed the instructions. opening the kezboard at booting however doesnt bring up Jay-c bootmenu.

Hmmmmm. I don't know. Take it over to the help thread and we'll be able to help you better. But off the top of my head I'd say do the bootloader steps again.

No idea. I also had a similar problem and found out the solution myself. The first option (the default one) doesn't flash the default kernel, it leaves the old one flashed.

Wait, so if I choose the default option it'll load whichever kernel was last used? If so, I think there's a bug that makes TV out stop working with the NITDroid kernel in Maemo. The TV detects the phone, but the image remains black and there's no sound in the TV. It's fine as soon as I load any of the Maemo kernels.

@dj_steve and Jay-c i've tried both maemo kernels today again in multiboot and still the same error with the radio module not loading - both the NITdroid omap1 and the omap37 (assume the latter is titans). Muhammad AG compiled a kernel he called NITdroid omap2 wich made the radio work agian (he made a .deb package that installed and flashed at the same time like titans kernel). Could you please, pretty please with suggar on top, include that in multiboot and release an update :D

MuhhammadAG's compiled kernel with working radio module - .deb flie ;)
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...postcount=2072

Thanks in advance and may i say Muhahaha if you do update multiboot :D

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

For those of you suffering of typing all the commands again for every new release it might be interesting to use the shell "bash" with its comfortable history (instead of built in standard ash ):

In your phone in a shell (as root!) type the following:
Code:

chsh user
and then type /bin/bash
This is for the standard user (which has the username "user").
For the root-Shell do the same without username:
Code:

chsh
and then type /bin/bash

For convinience edit/create the files
/home/user/.bash_profile and /root/.bash_profile
and add the following lines

HISTCONTROL=ignoreboth
HISTSIZE=2000

Thats it, next time starting a shell you will have bash command line. From than on the shell remembers your used commands (not starting with a space!) since the last logout and you can search them with CTRL-r .

I find this quite helpful and the idea came up during last maemo user meeting Berlin and is based on tips from c-base residents "lynxs" an "T" . Thanks again guys!

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

Hi

when i do

bzcat /home/user/MyDocs/NITDroid-N900-0.0.5-3-BIG.tbz2 | tar xvf -

it starts the extraction and then at the end it says "tar: write error: read-only file system". I looked through the /and folder to see what it had extracted and it did extract over half of the contents but it doesnt extract everything for the system folder like bin and other things. ive tried many times and restarted many times but still get the same error.

Does any one know what the problem is

thanks

I had this and what you need to do is unmount the sd card and re-mount it again

umount /and

mount /dev/mmcblk1p2 /and

I think the above commands are correct, but double check on the install instructions

it worked fine after that

I just cant use this version of Android as I get too many process errors for it to be useable and the previous version that worked great didnt have working wireless

So im sort of tuck now until another build comes out

Was up arrow for home button working in earlier releases? I've seen a few posts in this thread and the help thread about it being missing on the latest release. It is definitely not working for me.

FWIW, I wouldn't say that it's missing in latest release, at least for me...

However, what I'd say is that it works intermittently, which is frustrating at times.....

At this stage, in my opinion it's just a cool trick. It looks like it will be a real option soon, I hope. I have a feeling it's not in my personal future as a maemo replacement, though.

@Dj_Steve.

Thank for you work.

I Just installed NITDroid on my N900. Works good. Able to setup wi-fi. Connected to Google account and able to sync my Cal, and Contatcs. Able to login to Gtalk and Chat with my buddy.

Let me know if anyone needs any testing of NITDroid with N900.
I have one ready with NITDroid.

when I am using the market, it asks you to sign in to your gmail account, when I do it gives back an error: can't connect to gmail servers etc. tried to reflash Nitdroid, repartition and did the same steps but still the same. I was able to use it though 2 days ago. I have good internet I can browse with my Nitdroid browser. anyone encountered the same problem?

Hey everybody
I have a few questions, sorry if they already got answered!!!
1. I have a 8gb microsd with debian installed on it, if I install nitdroid on it, will it format everything on my card? Or can I keep debian?
2. Will maemo stay untouched on my N900? I mean... Can I boot on nitdroid or maemo, whichever I choose?
3. Is nitdroid as fast as maemo?

Thanks in advance :)

1. It should be possible, if you put the easydebian .img file on the FAT32 partition you'll create during the NITDroid installation (be sure to save a back-up though!)
2. Yes sir. The multiboot application allows you to choose your OS of choice everytime you start your phone, just like dual-boot on a PC.
3. Not (yet?). Especially the menus are a lot slower. But i think the browser is already much faster than MicroB (the maemo browser).

Re: [Android] NITDroid V2 Development Topic

Hey! I was searching performance tests of n900, and found this:
the same web, in :
*a N900 @900Mhz (w/ flash 9.4) (maemo, default browser)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9F3HUYV6itY

*a miliestone @ i guess stock.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weIaFRzPKh4&feature=fvsr (jump to 4:25)

Now, weeks ago I found the same web, in froyo, with 10.1 flash, but showing only that web, i couldnt find it again ¬¬.
so my question is: why is so laggy the n900 ? Is it because 9.4 flash?
... can any of u upload a vid, or comment if what happens wht Nitrdod (and that's the main reason I post it here).
tnx!

Try to sign in to Talk or Voice or something else like that.

Reboots often help, too.

Well Flash 9.4 uses CPU to display content which is not only slower but consumes more power. 10.1 uses GPU hardware acceleration hence its much faster and efficient

Andriod for N900 is still not ready , if you looked at the first post in this thread you would see that not everything works fine

* Phone/3G
* DSP
* Graphics Accel

* Sound Further Support

So these are the reasons N900 lags :)
