Re: Easy Debian Fremantle Beta Testing

I've just installed image 3b and I'm really enjoying having access to more apps from mainstream linux. Thanks for your great work!

Qole, I saw a screenshot from early feb showing java applets running in epiphany, I think - should that still work in image 3b? On sites with java applets I get an 'applet not loaded correctly, please reload the page' error, and on the www.java.com applet test page, I just get a grey box. I was trying using epiphany-gecko, as it seems from other posts that iceweasel and epiphany-browser still have issues?

Can anyone suggest a possible cause or solution?

Mount failure!

/sbin/qmount: line 195: dmlosetup: not found
mount: mounting /dev/dm-0 on /.debian failed: no such file or directory

Thinking it was the .ext2 img I replaced it. Didnt work.

And I couldnt find this error in the thread.

I had the same issue (see post 96) and for the answer see post 98 :D:D:D

guess its the same thing........

Open terminal type:

sudo gainroot
ls -al/.debian

if you get "no such file or directory then type:

mkdir /.debian

Very happy with image-v2 (using it since the start) but decided to upgrade anyway....steps below.....

1) Uninstalled version 0.9.39-1fremantle1

2) Reboot

3) Deleted image (v2) file using file manager

4) Reboot (prob not nessecary but couldn't hurt)

5) Installed version 0.9.45-1fremantle1 (from -dev thought this was going to be in testing but doesn't really matter :D)

After installation..................

10:48 : "Deb Img Install"

10:48 : "Main or Sweden Mirror" (main for me)

10:49 : Asked where I would like to install the image v3b

(MyDocs for me)

10:49 : ETA ~35 min - doesn't seem to be accurate - went up to 5 hrs then back down and jumped around a bit - no real problem with that - and I know it does that - just seemed to be really wild today so just thought I would mention :)

11:26 : 'debian-m5-v3b.img.ext2.lzma' saved

Testing the file to see if it is good.

Extracting debian-m5-v3b.img.ext2.lzma package....

Warning about device being unresponsive - noticed even the screen on/off flicker on right hand side is slow to respond - again no issue really if you know that it is going to take a while - just info for first time installers - don't think it hasn't worked or crashed and try and turn on/off (or anything else silly) at this stage ;)

12:13 All has gone well!

Opened up LXDE, tested Oo etc all works fine also tested from icon, everything fine. Will do some more installing of apps etc today, any problems I will let you know, again really easy to install and completely hassle free :D

An update: I was able to resolve the problem only be completely uninstalling everything related to Easy Debian and then reinstalling it again. It was time consuming, but everything seems fine now.

Thanks,

Good evening,

After performing the upgrade to the v3b image (which seems to have completed successfully)the LXDE menu ("start button") in Easy Debian is still gone or hidden. The 'processer used' bar graph is also missing. Someone mentioned earlier that I should upgrade to get the application menu back, but it did not help.

I cannot browse through the different applications within LXDE now.

Thank you again for any help.

doksng, the file that is causing your problems is

/home/user/.config/lxpanel/LXDE/panels/top

Try uninstalling Easy Debian, deleting that file, and then installing Easy Debian again.

If that doesn't work, tap-and-hold on the side panel until you get the panel menu and remake the top panel from scratch, although that shouldn't be necessary.

Thanks, i was still using the v2 image and I installed using the v3b image and it is now okay.

Noticed that with the previous installer, if you download the image file manually and put in on the phone and run "deb img install", it installs directly and recognizes the image file on the drive but the new installer would still connect to the internet before it accepts the image file. If there is no internet connection available the installation fails even though the image file is on the phone.

As far as I know, Java should work with 3b, in both Ephiphany-gecko and Iceweasel. The first time you use it, it might take quite a long time to initialize. If you get the grey box, let it sit for a few minutes to see if you get the netx dialog asking you where to put the temporary files.

I think the javaproblem can be the same as this bug:
http://icedtea.classpath.org/bugzill...bug.cgi?id=406
