I think the issue was more or less along the lines where:

* FW needed to be available to fix the issue with simcards. I believe this bug was a show stopper. Maybe someone from Maemo could comment?
* Meamo was making sure that FW was available and QA for FOTA
* N900 was ready to ship from warehouses but not yet shipped due to FW was not ready with the bug fix of simcards
* Now N900 is shipping in time and once in peoples hands they can FOTA the FW to fix bug.

Can you imagine the strain of the operators if everyone did the FOTA at the same time. It would cripple your phone system.

It'll be like this at every stage in the release.

I said it a month ago but here it is again - people won't know they're getting it until they get a dispatch notice or walk into a shop and get it. Nokia releases are always horrible with customers having no clue what's going on.

For example two years ago I wanted to buy an N82. It was "released" in September or October but I literally couldn't find it for sale anywhere and nowhere knew when they'd get it. I eventually had to buy one on ebay shipped from Hong Kong. The device didn't show up with European retailers until January. What happened in the two-three months between "release" and availability? Who knows.

If you want a Nokia device and it's for sale, then great! If you want a Nokia device and it's not for sale yet you better have a lot of patience.

My bet is that the the first confirmed receipt of a retail N900 by a genuine paying customer will occur at post 3300.

Ladies and gentlemen place your bets please.

I think not. We should hit 3000 posts by the end of the day and I don't think anyone is gonna see those phones realistically until next week at the earliest.

So you are suggesting that when Nokia was working on the firmware they decided to stop logistics of manufacturing hardware and moving products into place (e.g. warehouses closer to point of distribution)? And more why did it take till now to start shipping from Korea. Who does that from a business perspective?

Returned back home after being away on a 3 day course, called Nokia Uk again to voice my displeasure at being lied to on numerous occassions last week. Once i decided i had berated them enough i enquired when i should now expect my device and was told 19th November.

Decided to have a wee strop again and tell them that i will cancel my order, fortunately they didn't have my accout details and i am currently waithing patiently for the next delay.

I know going loco down the phone isn't big nor clever but it makes me feel a hell of a lot better and it's something i will look forward to doing everyday until the device arrives. I've only had the one operator hang up on me but i am working hard to make this rise to at least 2 a day.

Keep you posted on my childish adventures

Did anybody check the Nokia retail stores for the N900? There's a chance it might hit the brick and mortar stores before shipping to online orders. I'm considering taking a quick one day return flight to London for this phone, there's no way I'll wait 2 months for it to get here in Bucharest.
BTW, does the UK keyboard layout have the 4 arrow keys?

If you look at my post they made they announcement 15 hours after

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...postcount=2295

I think all of us will have our phone by the midof December but some of us before has they can't deliver all in the same week they have months of pre order to fill as probably the preorder fills faster than the production so they have a huge back log to fill.

Hmm, I wonder if news of this "delay" has hit the technology blogs yet. It's pretty much a delay until all the stores start receiving units.

I think it would be interesting after everybody got their N900 to change that thread to a general one. This thread was and almost kind of a chatroom thread so if we can keep it for general questions would be interesing.

I popped in the New York City store last night as I've been meaning to check the phone out in person. All they had was a prototype unit that didn't turn on...pretty lame.

You don't want to know man... Nokia Sweden are planing to delay the delivery again, to December and maybe 2010. Just because they want the fix for the 3 simcard.. ridiculous if u ask me..

Nuknuk i was taking the piss about Emmerdale lol i never took the express delivery cause i was due to be offshore on an oil rig when it was due to be delivered so it was pointless, hence the fact i was fek'd off about the device not being shipped on the Monday because as it stands i'm going to be offshore again while my N900 is sitting at my home doing zip.

Don't you realize that by acting that way you are making it more likely that in the future it will be a lot more likely that Nokia (and others) will simply not bother to have real people at the other end of the phone? Why should they have to put up with childish abusive people like yourself? They will likely just put a robot answering system instead. I am embarrassed to have you in the community.

It is a problem when

1) Your paying for a 3G connection you can't use

2) You were expecting the n900 to arrive sometime late October to Mid November and were planning on giving your current phone to your mother so she could have a cell phone while she was on her trip in Vietnam.

The way it is now (if Newegg does even get it on the 30th) it's cutting it very close for me. If it doesn't arrive soon after the 30th I'll be going cell phone less (I recently switched from Sprint to TMobile so I don't have any other GMS phones) for a month. And given how often I commute around for graduate school, my former campus, and work, not having a cell phone to reach people is going be annoying.

BIG props to you! Admirable and hard working job! Especially hard if you have family at home.

12hrs shifts, mostly 15 at times, 2 weeks on 2 weeks off, and yeah all this changing dates is annoying and worst of all the device might arrive the day after i go back to the rig.

And do you realize that being lied to 3 times a day for more than a week and being told that my devices (as i have 2 on order) will DEFINATELY be shipped on the 9th makes me wish to vent my anger and frustration in a manner that might not appeal to others. These lies that i speak of were intimated to me not by a retailer but Nokia themselves.

So i put it to you why should people like me have to put up with misinformation and stone cold lies when i am prepared to shell out my hard earned cash on 2 of their devices.

Remember i never forced them to give me that date they offered it and i made solid plans around it, only to once again be let down.

I do regret that i have embarrassed you by being in this communty and sincerely hope that not all here are as judgmental as yourself.

none of my business... just opinion...
  • when telling people to grow up; you should probably try to get your spelling right at least - hypocracy is spelt hypocrisy
  • i believe the term is "venting" frustration; thanks for the good chuckle you gave me with ventilating though...
