Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
As my new employer provided me iPhone 5s, I can now compare it with Jolla.
Build quality of iPhone is way better than Jolla. Screen is small on iPhone, however, keeping phone in the poket i is way more comfortable. All apps work very well on iPhone. Battery lasts approximately the same as on Jolla. Jolla UI is better and i had to jailbreak the iPhone to have it also accepting some swipe commands. However, I am quite impressed with iPhone - UI is not so good, but everything works as it should work email, web browser, calendar sync and etc. |

Other thing is that my Snow-White TOH and First-One TOH have never worked properly... the installations has always gotten me some strange stripe ambiences (white & shades of blue or white & shades of orange) which are ugly as hell. Actually I just noticed the TOH problem when I tried if the problem with my OHs had gone away with all these software updates... Now I can't even check that  |

I know that the BFQ (not officially in kernel) promises smaller responsiveness delays on desktops. If Jolla ever thinks about upgrading the kernel they might want to think about patching bfq in and using this as default. Overall I also experience lags on receiving mails but normally it does not come to a total halt. So a reflashing on the phone might help but not necessarily |

They only change when you change from one TOH to another so for example, if you have the white TOH on and swap it for the first one TOH you'll get orange stripes and new sounds. If you have the white TOH on and select a different ambience from the phone, take the white TOH off and put it back on, it won't change the ambience because it would be annoying to have your selected ambience change every time you took the TOH off. This behaviour changed around the third OS release IIRC. The ambiences are downloaded from the store. Do not remove the stickers. The NFC tag is part of the white sticker, not in the plastic behind it. |

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
I thought I'd report some problems i've had lately here to see if someone has had the same issues/has a solution to it.
I noticed my phone getting considerably more sluggish during last few weeks, mainly when texting/calling/browsing contacts. To a point of being almost unusable. Now I finally found the issue, on contacts beginning with + - # and ( there are thousands of random numbers (facebook contacts etc.) Complete reset seems to be obvious solution since there is way too many numbers to delete individually, and manual deleting doesn't even seem to work right now for some reason. I'll report if the reset worked when i have the time to do it next week, any other solutions are also appreciated. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
took a few days for my phone to get to Jolla(reboot issues), and a few days later its been sent back. They said its been repaired, I asked how they haven't replied. Am wondering if such a quick turn around meant they just replaced it?

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
@m4r0v3r
Jolla repair service usually takes 2-3 days at most. You can check the status and what has been repaired/replaced using your phone IMEI here: http://www.kirjaahuolto.fi/huollontila/haku.php (if you haven't)Read this: https://together.jolla.com/question/...rranty-repair/ Jolla's standard solution for reboot issue is clean battery contacts, install pillow, replace battery. That is what was done to my device and since then(13 days) - no reboots. |

edit: damn it they havent changed anything in regards to the battery, only the sim reader which was also having trouble. According to that page anyway edit again: got my phone back, to my surprise, no random reboots or any issues whatsoever, pretty happy :) |

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
I also have had annoying "nag" about connecting to the internet all the time, this was especially a problem in Japan where I deliberately wanted to keep my mobile data and wlan off because of conserving battery, but every single time I open an app like camera it would pop up the "internet is off, turn on wlan" window on top. If I want to use internet I can turn it on myself thank you.

Anyone else experiencing that the vibration is really inconsistent when using the keyboard? Some presses give really strong vibrating feedback while other barely vibrate at all or none at all? Seems random.

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
Hopefully we'll have a new OS update soon. What are people's recommendations regarding OS update procedures? Just download and update? Factory reset before? I remember reading some forum posts that it can be risky to update your device if not done properly.

I think if you do that you'll roll back your SW level to the 1.0.0.5 version, and you have to install all the subsequent releases to get to the current level :) |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
...And after almost five years with an N900 I finally got a brand new Jolla.
My first impressions: - while the N900 is "everything tap" (unlock sliding and three taps to get into music), Jolla is "everything swipe"... it will take a while to familiarize - i fitted a lace on my N900 (making it more ergonomic and... fun), Jolla doesn't have the hole to add it - my N900 had a kickstand and the sliding camera window - my N900 came with 32Gb storage - my N900 was large enough to accommodate a standard mini-SIM, not a bizarre micro-SIM Except for "gigabytes", I bet that none of these will be fixed in Jolla 2. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
Last point is moot anyway. We're at a stage where nano SIM is becoming default in more devices (which in turn is the sucessor to micro SIM) so don't esxpect a regular SIM slot in a modern smartphone anyway.
|
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
I find it odd that a regular sized SIM was considered a "feature"...
|
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
Well I do hope SIMs don't get much smaller. I want to move them between devices without tweezers.

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
Hi,
Pretty new here as I'm new Jolla owner (after a N900 and a N9). I really like the Jolla phone and Sailfish, and find some criticisms a bit too much. But anyway, I won't read 295 pages, so I'm asking my questions about 2 issues I've with this phone: - wifi connections is pretty weird and inconsistent, already a known issue? With or without fix? - I find extremely difficult to connect the phone with SFTP. My N9 didn't have such issue, connecting with SFTP was straightforward. With the Jolla, I've to try several times to get the phone connected. Here again, known issue? With or without fix? Thanks. |

1) Yes, it is a known issue and while it gets better with every update, it still is a problem. However, there is a workaround that might seem a bit odd, but I personally got used to it after just a few days of using Jolla (and it's been over 10 months now, not having almost any wi-fi issues). The workaround is to turn of your wi-fi when you leave [home/work/other public wi-fi] and turn the cellular on. When you come near to a known wi-fi again, turn the cellular off. It is almost automatic for me - having the control center in events/notification view helps a lot! 2) I have no problem with SSH connection and file access, but I admit I use fish:// instead of sftp:// (on all my devices - it has proven more stable). It should be just a matter of calling fish://nemo@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/ instead of sftp://nemo@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/ . Hope it helps. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
1) Yes, but I have that problem on Windows 8 and Linux desktop as well. No one seems to nail the WiFi driver writing these days...
2) No problems with that using Nautilus 3.14 on Antergos. |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
Thanks guys,
I'm on Fedora 20 + Gnome 3.12, so "fish" is not available, and sftp is...difficult. |

SSH works fine, otherwise? |
Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
Yes, ssh works. I don't have feedback long enough to say "well" but it works. I suspect this may come from the bad wifi.

looks nice, when we will get it ? :D

Re: Jolla User Experience Thread
Looks more like Webcat now so that's definetly a plus from me because I love Webcat! With this new design, chance is big that I'll switch from Webcat to sailfish-browser as main browser :)
