Don't know what to think of the professionality of the guy. Talking about Nokia phones and keyboard he mentions N9, E7 and N97. Maybe I just heard badly while traveling with train and missed a point. Definately should have mentioned from N770 up to N950 to be a professional review even though some are just tablets .

I am also bothered that there are people in the second batch without the IGG coupon.

My order:
Order number 11xxx
IGG coupon
Paid 1st of August
QWERTZ EU

That sounds quite bad. I thought that all buyers that used the IGG coupon should be served first and should actually already be getting their phone. :(

I have order number 49## and paid 31.7. but since I don't have the IGG coupon I am not expecting my unit to arrive anytime soon... Maybe next year. I can wait.

The Pro1 seems to be really difficult and slow to manufacture.

I'm in the same situation, Chen told me it's because of QWERTZ keyboard, these are planned in the following batch.

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone

I'm in the same boat, order#48xx, QWERTY, uk. No email, order status 'processing'.

I'm not upset about the delays, I've been in electronics design for a VERY long time, and I well understand the complexities making this happen.

What does annoy me is that fxtec don't seem to have any kind of a grip on the communications...

- they send out update emails that seem to contradict, or at least ignore, previous statements.

- They fail, as far as I can see, to post copies of those updates on their website, or forum, or anywhere where it can be seen by those not in the email loop. This is pointless of course, as someone always posts a copy, but an official post would be preferable.

- If emails in their forum are to be believed, then fxtec support seems to be sending out replies with a slightly different message to anyone who whines loud enough.

Twitter posts seem calculated to annoy too - 'it's there for your journey' err, no it isn't!
'F(x)tec knows that you keep your phone close' - really?

What's next, a twitter video of the fxtec xmas party "Here's us having a p!ss up with your money" ????

[Order #56XX] (February 28, 2019)
QWERTZ; EU
Paid: July 31th 2019.
No "stock assigned"
I think we should start including the year in dates in the saga getting the Pro1 :p

Hi. I'm not sure why you think the reviewer is not professional. He is actually quite good and is well known. The N770 was a small tablet if my memory serves me right and N950 was never sold. I could see mentioning N900. Of course none ran Android. Indeed, he might of mentioned the last Android phones that were sliders like HTC and LG. I think there was a Motorola one too a few years back. Anyways, I believe the reviewer is good and he says he will have follow up review.

Well, N9 is not a keyboard phone, for starters.

No news on mine yet, but as those waiting for pre-orders haven't had anything yet, I'm probably looking at late Dec when Clove Technologies get there's in.stock.

Couple of quick questions though. In the specs it mentions 5G compatibility outside Europe. Does this mean it could get 5G in EU?

And what version of Alien Dalvik is present on the device?

Thankees :)

I think he just didn't put much time for the video, like thinking what could be good to have in it - meaning a thorough well thought list of devices. My comment was not ment the way it probably sounded. It was a short video, spoken really fast and gave the impression of not spending too much time on thinking of what is included. My hopes were (rewiever XDA developer or something I supposed) a more thorough, going deep into the device and without a rush.

But if you are a blogger you have to surf the waves in the first line so maybe this should have been uinderstood to be just a teaser and hope more from the following video.

What happens in case of short circuit by touching a metal piece in the pocket/bag/table?

I haven't had any issues with shorting, but then again I don't put my phone in a pocket that has keys or coins in. I use them for everything that has a USB connector. They don't do data transfer though, only charging.

Ha ha. I was going to mention that too. For some reason, going back in time a bit, I thought that, initially, folks had the impression the N9 was going to have a hwkb but then the sad news came. Am I right about that? Or were there always two handsets that were going to be sold? One a candy bar and other with hwkb.

I think he says it was meant to be a quick intro and that there was going to be a more detailed review coming, hopefully testing with lineage. Whether there will be a strong historical context given remains to be seen. Btw, he always talks fast! Lol

The Pebble uses a magnetic connector sort of like this; I let it touch a coin by mistake once and it did indeed spark. However subsequent attempts to recreate the spark do not seem to do anything, so I suspect there is a protection circuit in place. It still works to charge the watch.

I don't see how would that be possible with SD835. So, no. That's a mistake there.

And Pro1 comes with Android... so why would it need Alien Dalvik? So no. No AD.

Edit: And Pro1 is not official Sailfish device, so no AD...

If Clove Technologies gets them in stock then. I think they might just be in the same boat as everybody else, and just got told by F(x)tec that they'd get the phones before Christmas. That doesn't seem 100% likely right now.

I think no, N9 was not wanted to be a device with hardware keyboard... but yes, it had a brother running the same OS, with hardware keyboard and it was called N950 - that was abandoned by Nokia somewhere at production-ready state when Microsoft had acquired the company and stopped potential competitors of Windows Phone then.

By that time practically the future of the whole Maemo line had destroyed (basically the source codes have "evaporated").
Some successors are trying to grow up but a good phone with hwkb is... maybe growing nowadays.

I think for us the video was really nothing special. He didn't provide anything more than people here do. But you can see his excitement.

This video is really for folks that forgot about the phone and need a quick refresh about what it is.

We can wait for maybe next of long term test to fill our needs ;)

Unfortunately camera isn't working anymore after the update. Flashlight is now there (was missing) but doesn't work.

Did a further update. Camera is working again.
On stock camera just the main camera works. On Advanced Camera App both cameras work.

Edit: Flashlight is now also working

I think there was considerable confusion at the time. Many, incuding other journals/websites thought the N9 had the HWKB. Here is an interesting thread to read (if you haven't seen it before) although for many it might open sore wounds...

Hard to keep track of what OS your talking about since people are talking about android and sailfish here.

Are you talking about sailfish?

Thanks

What is the recommended screen protevtor for the Pro1? I've seen there are some non-glass protectors on Aliexpress, but I'm not sure if such a non-glass protector will be able to absort enough shock from drops to save the screen from cracking

Kabouik 2019-12-04 16:27

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone

Wouldn't a non-glass protector actually have better shock absorption but less scratch resistance?

Also, I believe I saw in one of the early reviews that the retail Proš come with a screen protector installed already. Did I make it up?

I purchased flexible protectors designed for Elephone from Aliexpress, received them a couple days ago. Not sure yet whether I will use them as I tend to vastly prefer phones with no protections, but given that the Proš is a rare gem with no certainty about long term stocks, maybe I'll be more careful.

This is what support wrote today about later shipments.

About screen protectors, they have suggested that one made for Elephone U Pro will fit.

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone

Yes the phone comes with a screen protector (included, not installed.) It fits nicely and all. Not a glass protector though. Actually I don't know if there is glass protectors for curved screens, and I'm too lazy to google it. But at least for starters, the one included in the package, is perfectly enough.

You should check "Open Camera" then.
The shutter sound is a "bling" in that app.
No idea how to assign the app to the hardware shutter button tho.

Regarding screen protector there was some difficulties i had with the stock one since no instruction where supplied. Maybe if you only read about my fails you should be already in better start postion.

I ordered this one from bedifol/protectionfilms24, they have a Pro1 section even.
Delivery is tomorrow and i will post if it fits.

Hmm opencamera should support those by default... My doogee phone had the (alas single-stage) camera button overridden by the software and I had first modified opencamera to make it work, then later made an xposed module to fix the behaviour so that it'd act like a camera button is supposed to. Maybe this is a bug? Or maybe it is different for two-stage buttons.

When open camera is running and i press the hw button to shoot, the snapdragon camera opens up instead.

Aaa something is capturing the keypress before it gets passed to opencamera i guess... Is there no option to disable/reassign it?

edit: addendum, this is what was the issue with the Doogee phone I had where com.android.server.policy.PhoneWindowManager had interceptKeyBeforeQueueing() steal the key event unless their own camera app was running. My Xposed based fix for that is here https://bitbucket.org/netman69/dooge...s/ModKeys.java (fairly sure this won't work for pro1 but maybe a similar workaround could work, although I'm hopeful an option to disable launching camera will be added in future firmware if it doesn't already exist hidden somewhere)

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone

There is an app name "Button Mapper" on Android that made it possible to assign Open Camera to the long press action.
Now Open Camera starts up, but still when it is running and long press to shoot, snapdragon cam comes up instead of taking a picture.

I've used External Keyboard Helper to remap keys on my Gemini to support phonetic Cyrillic (works with some downsides). One of the best features is the hardware keys tester which tests what keycode the pressed button produces - might be helpful for the camera button or other uses.
