Heaps has been covered already, quite a bit for a device that's still in it's pre-production phase.
That's not something you get from most of the bigger guys before the 1st ww release of their OS/platform.

And they were statements made by Nokia's middle to senior management, none of whom work for, or were involved in, setting-up Sailfish(Jolla).
With the power of hindsight, we've since learned that almost all Nokia's ills can be attributable to that part of the organisational structure.

That's still a big Qn mark, agreed, but how it remaining unexplained leads you to conclude that Sailfish is a "myth" & "non-existent" is a mystery.

It's a mystery for sure.

Well, coming from somebody who is "living on the ubuntu edge", you won't blame me if I get the feeling that your opinions may be a tiny bit biased now, right? :)

...and they have their own logo outside the building where they work. Now _that's_ marketing!!

On a more serious note, I'm wondering whether this first batch everybody's talking about is scheduled for end of 2013, and anything that follows will follow afterwards, which would be bad news or patience training for some.

Lucky for this forum early in the first batch. I would go bananas if I would have to wait months after the release date for tech I wanted. That would be totally unexeptabable. But I've lost the excitement for jolla, but who knows. I might find it again if they have something good to deliver.

My speculation.

1st pre-order batch was propably jointly ordered with DNA's (Finland) order.

The new pre-order batch could be jointly with Dphone's (China) order, i.e roughly January 2014 shipment.

And anything and everything beyond that depending on whetever the releases in Finland and China are succesfull. Those are the sales that matter and would make releases elsewhere possible. I doubt that they will be in business for selling few thousand phones per year to uber-geeky Linux enthusiasts.

jolla has been in hidig so the paparazzis has been covering others. Its safe to say, if jolla finally release a phone new CEO fishing trips might appear. But the dont come cheap.may I remind you that the sea is huge and it takes tones of manpower to cover ever square meter to get these photos.

Anyone else get feeling that they're probably ALREADY ahead in market shares compared to Windows Phone. ;)

Beign ahead of WP = being faster runner than a snail.

:)

ggabriel 2013-09-18 13:21

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Yeah, maybe not too much of a big deal being ahead of WP, although it would be nice. Then again, the device is not even live so....

So, where is the count down for the specs? :)

szymeczek34 2013-09-19 11:28

If specs are tragic like n9s they might want to first take preorders.

N9 specs tragic??
Well each to his own... I certainly never found it so.

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Tragic? N9's specs are perfect for what it does IMHO.

BTW, specs here: https://jolla.com/your-jolla/

Probably more than enough if Sailfish is as efficient as Harmattan (of course it depends how many processes you run in parallel).

On paper in 2013 it doesnt look good, in android our poor a8 also feels lacking however in Harmattan I admit it does it's job quite well.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.:confused::confused::on fused:

What the heck happened to "4G" in the spec sheat? And why isn't there any mention about supported wireless standards? Its supposed to be a phone!

Jos joku siellä Jollalla lukee TMO:ta, niin ilmoittakaa nyt helvetti minkälainen puhelin se teidän puhelin on.

So... you get my point, right? How fast a CPU is doesn't make the phone run any faster. I personally want something smooth and that doesn't drain my battery in a few hours, like all androids do (pretty much).

1GB RAM Is a bit weird to be honest, then again, I rarely run out of memory in my N9 these days.

And like Rauha says... hopefully the ommission of 4G is just that and not that they are backing out of it? I'm pretty sure that there are laws against backing such a thing out and everything :-)

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

I find it funny how everybody complains about the display resolution... I've got a projector at home and effectively am projecting at a 106" surface with 1080p resolution. I reckon at a distance of 2-3m I may be able to double the resolution and maybe _maybe_ appreciate a little bit more of detail, but that's about it. In a 4.5" display, what do people expect to see at 1080p and presumably a distance of at least 0.5m? or even a little bit less resolution? I mean, seriously? Do people suddenly attained a vision that is comparable to that of spiderman and a standard elf combined? :-)

i just want to say I walking around with a phone with 3gb ;) even so i will get a jolla. I need to try this budget phone. Its a new os. Forget the hw. Its all about the Os...

Faaaaark, that's ****, I was hoping for 720p... grrrrrrr
Everything else is "acceptable", but that display tips this ph over the edge of being unacceptable for me.
And the RAM is crap too, should be 2GB, N9 was very generous in this area, despite being avg (to below avg) in most others.
The "Other Half capabilities better offer true hw augmentation or I'm walking, so pissed right now.
