Folks, when I worked for IBM, we did the same thing sometimes. We would announce the product is shipping, but we really meant that the product has been cleared as final rev product to ship. This can mean seven days before one product actually shipped to our sell-in customers- then the time for them to ship to consumers.

If you could actually reach someone at Newegg that "knew" anything, I bet it would be a different story. We need a mole on the inside!

I'll agree with you in part, I shouldn't have believed in a CS Rep who gave me the impression that he "knew" the release/shipping date. But Customer Service should be a way for customer retention not sales. And I feel that NewEgg's Customer Service has not been what it was.

Back to the subject I'm trying to talk with one last guy at NewEgg, one of their community website CS admins. He hasn't given me a answer on the N900 yet but hopefully something soon.

Also BLT and NewEgg did not mention any delays due to exclusive rights. If that's true I'm about to hammer the nails in the coffin.

The CS people just say yes to anything. Calling them is absolute waste in time. If you've tapped into a real person, cultivate that grapevine. All I really want is an accurate answer like most of us here. Chasing a carrot you can never catch produces pissed off mules!

I don't know if I should laugh or cry if Dell starts shipping before Nokia USA.

Business account, ordered through dell, it shows they billed the account, but no confirmation yet, still shows in production as well.

Called Dell and they stated they should received the handsets by the 16, latest 17th, but won't ship out until entered in inventory and ordering system, 3+ days. Delivery date of 11/23 must be accurate.

For all the people who are completely slamming Nokia for a delay of less than a month, and for all the people who say they "know how business works" and so forth, here's a dose of reality.... wait for it.... delays happen all the time across all industries, so get over it.

1) Nintendo: "Wii MotionPlus was originally scheduled for a June release date, but now that is up in the air after the projected delay. So far, Nintendo have yet to say anything on the matter, so stay tuned and we’ll keep you up to date."

2) Microsoft: "Microsoft has informed some of its partners that it has had to delay Windows Mobile 7, a much anticipated update to its cell phone operating system."

3) Renault & Nissan: "Renault SA, France’s second-largest carmaker, and affiliate Nissan Motor Co. will introduce their ultra-low cost car a year later than planned because of delays in fixing details of the product with its Indian partner. "

Just use google and you'll see that the list is almost endless. Therefore... YOU ARE WRONG about Nokia being the only company that does this.... deal with it.

Here's a difference, none of those companies work with an open source community. Not to mention companies like Nintendo don't have stores that they sell their products to exclusivity while putting everyone else on the backburner for a while. So even if a product is delayed, once it actually comes out it's available in most stores.

I guess you should try reading for content then because what we're not talking about now is not "delays" it's that the "delay" is over and the product is now shipping but nobody knows what's going on. People in different markets still have no idea when they're getting their order.

So while it's nice that you managed to think up three random examples of three other products out of the range of millions of products you'll also likely discover something else: with Nokia this is common to all their products. It's business as usual for them. Everytime they release a product it's the same mess. This is not a one-time mistake or an error or an oversight it's what they intended to do.

Laughing Man 2009-11-13 20:32

Re: N900 shipping delayed

Wow really? I thought this was just a one time thing from Nokia. So everytime they release a product like this it's the same cycle?

seiichiro0185 2009-11-13 20:32

Re: N900 shipping delayed

damn it, I thought the wait would finally be over soon with the anouncement of the shipping, but I guess I was wrong. I Preordered from amazon Germany in the beginnig of September. After the press release I mailed them and asked If they have any date when they can start shipping. guess what they told me: "we are sorry but the device isn't released yet, we don't have any shippment date from Nokia and will inform you as soon as possible"

So if not even one of the biggest online seller has any clue of a date when they will recive shippment from nokia it somehow makes me loose my hope that I will recive my N900 this year...

Peeps,

After reading the last few pages of posts it looks like you are all in the same boat as us here in Sweden. Only difference is you are expecting your shipment they day shipping was announced. Here in Sweden the day of arrival for purchase/fulfill preorders is week 49 (30th Nov onwards) now taking that into consideration I don't think all people in Sweden will have their device that week. I have a feeling the product manager for Sweden was making a more of a guesstimate date for mass release for the Swedish market. I also have a feeling Nokia is making sure it has the device ready for mass release. Shipping only means that.... "shipping" not delivering or recieve at online store etc.... seems like mass release. Still gonna wait patiently nothing else I could do.
