Re: 2012 Coding Competition
I know you're all excited but please try to hold back on assigning prizes to yourselves or others until after the votes are final - they're still preliminary and I don't want to raise expectations only to have to disappoint anyone later. It's only a day or two to wait, it'll fly by :)

Re: 2012 Coding Competition
I'm actually quite happy just to have made it into the competition. It made me do some work on my idea, and have something to publish.

Re: 2012 Coding Competition
Thanks to kojacker and all others for organizing this competition. It was huge fun participating and lead to a cool sideproject for me.
Thank you all that voted for Instago! And what better way to thank to all than to finally release the public beta... tomorrow :) Follow the TMO thread here for details. And my thanks to all other participants. Thanks to you all there are a lot of new apps, tools, games and toys to play around with on those great platforms! |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
I've noticed that games that have had the most votes are those created for fremantle (I dont know in other categories), I suppose N900, perhaps I could have made my game to N900, for more people, because I suppose here there are more people who votes with a N900 than N9 or N950.
These are just my opinion!! |

Edit: Before I saw the voting results, I thought an application only for N900 would have little chance to win, but that was based on the numbers of TMO threads during the last year. |

We've now almost completed the 3rd yearly competition, and this restriction was brought in after the first competition. It's certainly not something new we brought in to skew the voting one way or another. As mentioned a few pages back, during the initial competition we discovered that users and friends of users were creating fake and dummy accounts with the only purpose to place votes in the competition. That's why the restriction was put in place that only accounts created before the competition got started were eligible to vote. I can understand and I do think it is unfair to new genuine users who want to take part but unfortunately the flexibility in the system isn't really there to do everything we would like. I think there's some confusion caused by the seperation of the maemo.org and talk.maemo.org accounts. Most people reading this post have a talk.maemo.org account. talk.maemo.org is the forums section you're reading now. However, maemo.org is the main site, it's through maemo.org that the Coding Competition devices are assigned and distributed. In terms of voting, it's through the maemo.org account that entitles you to a vote or not. I think a lot of new users do not see the separation between both accounts, and I honestly can understand the confusion - both sites have been designed in such a way to provide a continuous experience and do appear to be part of one whole. As maemo.org morphs into whatever it becomes next, I believe this situation will be gone and everything will be under a single account. Also, if you have not done so already, I do encourage everyone to create a maemo.org account and enjoy it while we still have it. It is not simply a site used for developers of Fremantle apps. Also (.. I realise what started as a quick response is now turning a ramble..) you have to remember that Fremantle was 5th Maemo OS.. Maemo existed a long time before Fremantle was the step 5 twinkle in a developer's eye, and it would be unfair that these folks who have built maemo.org up into the comunity is is today didnt get a chance to participate in the competition. If you click around maemo.org you'll see that it is vast, and then there are other separate areas such as the irc with development and discussions you don't see on here. I suspect the majority of people with a "long forgotten" maemo.org account wouldn't take the time to come back and vote on apps that didn't interest them, but perhaps if they did they'd see great apps like your Flatboat and decide to stick around and get involved again :) Edit: You'll have to excuse my slightly surly tone in the above as I now have to sit with my father and watch the 'highlights' of his football team beating my football team on TV which isn't helping my mood one bit... :o |
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
Out of interest, do we know the total number of voters?
|
Re: 2012 Coding Competition
Quick question - how many people (total) voted for CC? my totally wild guess would be ~400+ - I wonder how it apply to reality.
// edit Ops, sixwheeledbest beat me to it :) |
