I also had the problem with screen lock. It is important to note that I'm fairly sure that this is AN N800 PROBLEM. We don't have a slid[e]y switch. Moving the xmodmap.desktop file out of .kde/Autostart as described here did the trick. Removing the KP_ENTER stuff from after "keycode 36 =" in the ~/.xmap file as stated here does NOT work. It simply made the square button useless for everything.

I also have the problem that when I hit the Home button to get right-click, it works to turn the right click ON. But then I can't turn right-click OFF again. My clicks get stuck in right-click mode, even after exiting KDE. I have to reboot to regain left-click again.

EDIT: I figured out the broken right-click.
I went into Menu->Settings->Regional & Accessibility->Input Actions->Menu Editor Entries->K Menu - kde-swmb.desktop then Delete Action.
Then, using instructions found in PinCushionQueen's post (and a quick search to find where the script actually lived), I created my own group, created my own action, assigned it to the Home key (F5) and in the "Menu entry to Execute" field, I put /usr/bin/swmb.sh ... and it works great now!

Are you using USA layouts?

I just installed to my n800 via my shiny new kde-installer deb. The right click button worked fine. Press home once and it toggle right click, press again and it toggles back to left click. Also the lock works fine on my n800???

I am guessing you are not using USA layouts, the xmodmap is made for USA layout, I think this is what causes some people problem??

Could this be your issue?

I am using the non-deb, boot-from-SD, V2 version, downloaded this morning from TabletHacker.

I am from Canada, so it may be as you feared. We generally use British English spellings, so, when given the choice, I tend to set my language to en-CA or en-GB, but my keyboard layout is usually set to US. But I don't think the tablets have a keyboard layout option, so I probably selected en-GB and then I had to fight with the tablet about what country I'm actually in (yes, I do want Pacific DST!).

However, the solutions I found worked for me, and if they work for you too, you should probably change new versions to work my way so that the few weird ones like me don't have these problems.

How do you "Tab" and make the | symbol in KDE???

This is the reason for the xmodmap. Perhaps I need a US version os SUP and a version for everyone else?

Both Tab and | (pipe) work fine on my KVKbd. Well, the pipe is a bit finicky; I have to press Shift a few times to get the \ key to properly do the | symbol. But there's no problem with Tab from the virtual keyboard.

But maybe I misunderstood you.

Here's a fun screenshot of (doublesized) XMMS playing radioparadise.com in the current default theme of Maemo KDE. Well, not entirely default, I moved the bar to the left side of the screen and I chose a pointer that didn't pulse redly at me all of the time.

Notice that I made an icon for the keyboard. I show what the virtual keyboard looks like in this picture of AltPublishr on the N800.

As I point out in my comments on Flickr, "The irony is that I couldn't upload this picture to Flickr from Konqueror; I had to exit back to Maemo and upload from the MicroB browser."

I am wondering perhaps I need to split n800 and n810 installs? I dont use kvkbd and I need tab and pipe on my n810 hardware keyboard. the xmodmap make Fn+< = pipe and Fn+> = tab on the n810 hardware keyboard.

How about a base install with no xmodmap, and then a little US-n810 add-on install that only installs xmodmap?

Is the right-click problem and solution also related to xmodmap? When I pointed directly at /usr/bin/swmb.sh it worked fine.

EDIT: By the way, why doesn't the KDE icon work in the Hildon menu?

Probably is. Think your idea of a another deb to install is not a half bad idea. Perhaps I go the other way and make a final deb to remove the xmodmap for N800's and people who are not using USA layouts...

Once the install process is hammered out, I will be updating the installs to fix these issues.

Interesting... I installed a bunch of python packages in red pill mode, and when I went to my menu, the KDE icon had appeared! I wonder if this was caused by red pill mode or by me installing the python packages?
