Hi, i have mediastreamer installed on nokia 770, i also have this "nokia"'s Home Media Server installed on my windows pc, and i installed twonky to my linux box that sits in the living room.
Now i'm able to stream videos from linux box to windows box, and music, but i'm not able to stream anything to the linux machine, and that would be what i want, to use the 770 as a somesort of remote control. Anyone have any idea how to get this done with twonky ? |
Twonky is not a UPnP player but a server, what you need is a Linux UPnP player. Then Media Streamer will see SimpleCenter running on the PC as a serving device and hopefully the Linux UPnP player as a rendering device.
i.e. http://soggie.soti.org/gmediarender/ (Again cannot vouch for this product, but reading the information it seems to be what you need, especially as it mentions the Cidero Media Controller etc) Be aware that some UPnP players are not designed to allow a controller to control events. (and of course Media Streamer is an early beta release of sorts) so you may still have issues to resolve. |
re:gmediarender
1) Pay attention to this filed bug http://savannah.nongnu.org/bugs/?16640 if you're trying to install version 0.0.4 on a machine with GCC 4.0.3. 2) Although my box running gmediarender did appear in the Mediastreamer window, I could not get audio to play through to it. Any other Linux UPnP rendering packages out there? |

There has been talk about UPnP player support being added to VLC Media Player but I do not now how far they got with it etc. |
Oops, I totally forgot about the GeeXboX distro. It's probably more like MythTV than your basic UPnP players though. I also tried getting VLC to work as a client, but I was having really bad connection issues with it.

Cidero ( http://www.cidero.com/ ) is a UPnP media renderer for Linux/MAC/Windows.
I haven't tried it yet. |

If you read the first few lines of information at the Cidero site, all becomes clearer http://www.cidero.com/ i.e Controller, Radio Server, Bridge |
Thanks for clearing that up for me. I thought it also played the media.
