My work also has an exchange server that would be nice to just check email from (no calendar, contacts, etc), but I don't think it has IMAP enabled.

My assumptions/questions, please give any advice/input:
  1. I will have to use MFE for my main gmail account so that contacts and calendar can be synced. Is there any other way?.
  2. I will only be able to sync the primary calendar associated with my main gmail account. Is there any way to sync additional calendars?
  3. I can then use either an IMAP connection for the other google apps domains or should I set them up with Nokia Messenger?
  4. I will not be able to sync with my work email at all since I'm only allowed one Exchange account.

Dont waste your time trying to sync the N900 with Anything, And dont listen to people here telling you to use IMAP, no good admin would leave the IMAP port open on a server, well certainly no good nix admin at any rate, and pop is *almost* useless.

Nokia falsely advertised exchange sync/mislead people as to the N900's REAL Syncing capabilities.

Carrier Pigeon would be a better bet/faster than waiting for Nokia to implement this most basic of features.

Unfortunately, I guess not. But I'd sync contacts only, read on.

Since MfE-to-Google doesnt really work, I suggest you use Erminig-NG [http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...postcount=195] to sync calendars. Erminig-NG supports syncing multiple Google-calendars.

I suggest Nokia Messaging since you get push-like functionality with it. And even if you decide to poll the accounts, less traffic is generated that way.

I'm afraid this is correct, unless theres IMAP or POP which in turn you could sync using Nokia Messaging. Or good old Outlook Web Access (OWA) using MicroB...

What kind of advice is this? IMAP is perfectly fine so long as you encrypt the passwords. In any case, IMAP(s) is trivially simple to set up. You are wrong good sir. Wrong, and I challenge you to a duel.

However, about syncing, I somewhat concur. It's a pain in the backside. I set up syncml and it works fine now, however getting it set up was a lengthy afternoon trip down frustration lane.

My question is: Why push does not work with gmail and the N900? It does work with the iphone. Is it Nokia's fault or google´s?

Can't you just set up the regular E-mail client for push via IMAP Idle? Works great with Gmail...

Thanks, but i dont want to check for email every X minutes. I want push mail, like the one nokia messaging offers.

IMAP Idle = true push mail.

Re: N900 Gmail Clarification

Well then its just broken.
I send an email to my gmail account, then i wait, wait a little bit more and never get the mail unless i open the mail app and check for new mail.
On the contrary Nokia messaging will notify me instantly when a new mail arrives.
Thanks anyway for the answer, i just wanted to know WHY it does work with the iphone but not with the N900.

That's precisely what I was asking... I never got around to getting an N900, so I have no idea. Just seemed like a good alternative to a dedicated Gmail app...
