The people who said i have it on voda and you can update and stuff, is it from vodaphone directly or phones 4 u or carphone warehouse ?

Plenty of people on Vodafone eforum who seem to indicate they bought direct have been able to update they just had to wait a little longer than some with N900's bought else where..

I got mine direct from Voda so it has their product code. It does not appear to be branded or changed in anyway that I can tell. Both updates were released just a bit after than the rest of the world.

There is a bug report about it which is also worth following as it has comments from both Nokia and Maemo on it

there we go then, it has been branded but its not clear on wat exactly has been branded.

When i was on the .205 i could not use skype.
couldent get to the other repos
and updates were not working.

Although people are saying they just come a little later....i want them earlier and there shouldent have to wait for some branded firmware.

now if you lot are saying that there are no differences.
Then may i ask the question.
Wat the heck is the point in that ?

And make sure if you have a 205 branded because nokia did confirm that it IS BRANDED <<
After several site reports that said it was not.
Its just a question of, did you get it from vodaphone directly ?

If yes = Read on

If No = Dont worry about it then, your normal and will not get charged stupid amounts for wi fi abroad.

P.S If people with no have this problem when using wi fi abroad this includes in vodaphones data roaming charges, i no first fricken hand it does.
So if you want to use your INTERNET TABLET abroad the main internet connection is going to be WI FI and since you will get charged for WI FI for no reason what so ever in a FOREIGN country.

I hope that makes the difference between the two firmwares pretty clear, the main difference to me is the bill i get from going on the internet reaching 400 pounds.

 Now if i only debranded it and put in my own sim i wouldent be in this mess.
If only if only.

AFAIK the only branding VF do is add the VF360 bit

I have been using wifi all over the country and my data usage is still 0 bytes :D

as I make sure I only connect to internet reliant apps when on wi-fi

I currently have 2 N900's as VF are pretty useless and supposedly a 3rd one on its way LOL

one of them was from CPW though and is completly unlocked and unbranded

Mine didnt come with it installed, it just came with the s60 sis files...which makes vodafone look ******ed.
And kinda made me laugh.

I didnt mean in the country, its out of the country.

They charge, for roaming data charges including wi fi outside the country.
if your in the country that you have the contract in its fine.
But thats just a point silly rule right there for using the wi fi in the another country that you have paid for in your hotel bill and then vodafone charge you for using it !!!

This is why you unbrand it, they cant track it, then get a local sim card and smack it and you will get no charges and get eratic !
:D

Mine was from CPW so unbranded and unlocked :)

I did have one on order from VF but they took too long to get me a phone, and when they did it turned up damaged and im still waiting for a response back to have it returned, if they dont I will have a brand new N900 sealed in the box for sale LOL (or to keep in case anything happens to mine as I didnt take out the insurance with CPW as they wanted 13.99 per month !!

How do vodafone charge you for wifi when abroad:confused: Used wifi in several countries on a number of vodafone bought mobiles and never been charged.

If they did im sure people would go loopy at vodafone for charging them for something which Vodafone were not entitiled to charge you for.

Plus you can unlock any vodafone just ring/email them up and most i understand are already unlocked now..

Yes they do, ill try and find and scan the bill.
But its a data charge they explained.
Since using wi fi is means data.
They will charge me the same it is to use 3g in a foreign country...
Dont say they dont do that either, cos i know they fricken do.
You can call them up and ask them as well.
I tried to explain that wi fi shouldent be chargeable but they were having none of it.
