Re: Ask the Council!

I'd like to see council help make direction as they should have a better outlook on the community. And help giving maemo.org a place in MeeGo, even if it requires a lot of arguing. :P

I can assure you I did not, and I was very mad to find out via email from another community member.

Very Very WEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were not informed in ANY way prior to or after the public announcement..........

I will say this: there's an absurdly short amount of time until the nomination deadline, and the election itself too given this advent...

Re: Ask the Council!

Considering that Nokia did not feel it was important to inform the council members of any of this I'm not sure there is a big need to continue with a Maemo Council at all.

Assume that there would be no council starting...tomorrow - and Nokia would continue down the MeeGo path - what would really change?

There would still be a product, there would still be forums (official or fan-run), there would still be app development (official or fan-created). Moderators on forums would make sure things ran smoothly, etc. Not too much different than how other products (Nikon, etc) are handled really.

Maybe it is just easier to have some legacy site for the die-hard (or now stuck?) Maemo users and let Nokia run the MeeGo efforts.

That's a fair point. Nokia seems to have done this entirely off their own bat, without informing, let alone consulting the council. What do Nokia think the Council are for?

Yes I think it's safe to say a Maemo council is rather pointless going forward.

My bad. I should had written "Any kind of council".
But my questions are still the same - what would happen if there would be no more council tomorrow and the Nokia just continues down the path that they apparently have chosen?

Being that Nokia is a big, well established company I would assume they have already planned out how this transition will happen and I don't personally see their interest in having a relationship with a 'Council'.

For some time I have actually thought of the Council as an entity that validates themselves rather than actually being needed.

There are certain aspects that made this whole MeeGo union feels like it's a product of arranged marriage that resulted in a badly named child made out of good genes...

But it's only natural that we all feel this [confusion|annoyance|shock|awe] because maemo is already part of our identity.

Yeah, in hindsight, the tattoos were a bad idea.
