I think the main thrust is that the N900 OS didnt seem to be beta tested properly/was released too early..

It is pointless, but I follow the thread less and less do to work and relocation issues, but the only things that I hear now coming from here are just complaint about how the community here is unfriendly.

That's untrue. And it's a fact.

I think a majority of users on this forum are "above average" users who do crazy things like "look around" and "try" things. We're not typical iphone users that want things handed to us. If my laundry doesn't wash itself, I wash it. I don't go shouting to a forum of people who then sigh and go "I'm not going to explain to this dolt how to wash his damn clothes."

That's what MOST of the "problems" people post here are. They're not problems, they're just people not bothering to look for the answers on their own.

The phone rotation thing is a GREAT example of that. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people complain about missing calls because the phone rotated on them.

TURN IT OFF.

Oh but wait, they NEED someone to explain to them how to press the menu and pick turning controls because they never bothered looking for it in the first place.

So in the end, you get a forum full of people that just go, "*SIGH* Another ignorant bastard refusing to take 10 seconds and investigate something on his own."

The funny thing is, a lot of the "problems" people report can be easily fixed by just clicking at the bar at the top of any application and going to settings.

For example, the phone rotation problem, you guys DO know you can just open the phone app up, click the top bar where it says Phone, (wow lookie thar! A menu!)

Click Turning Controls, then set the phone to "Portrait" only so it never rotates. :D

C'mon guys. Look around a bit.

Personally I think you could skip the sarcasm.

I'm aware of that option, thanks.

That does not change the fact that "Automatic" turning control is not implemented properly, due to what I described before.

Im sorry you simply cant cast aside n900 issues like that. The majority of problems I, and seemingly other people on this board are actual bugs/lack of attention to detail. Please dont treat users with such disdain. Im sure a lot of people could write a long list of issues with the N900. To reiterate, I love my N900 but just burying your head in the sand and saying its the users/extras apps at fault just doesnt wash/does no one any good.

My N900 is the most fastest mobile device i've ever had ...

Nothing of the speed problems, lagging, or anything related to delayed display, or touch action, etc. i have right now with the last firmware.

Sorry about people that is not happy with their N900 speed, but i am sure that are not related to the hardware, just bad software or bad installed or bug on some apps etc...

cya!

And the easy reply is, "what percentage?"

Because small percentages indicate anomalies. Things unanticipated (right or wrong), hardware defects, software conflicts, etc.

This is not to diminish the validity of the claims. Rather, it is to place them into the proper context. If 90% posters say the N900 is generally slow, they are likely onto something. A good example was the poor internet video performance of the N810/N800/770-- it was universal, and obviously slow.

But many complaints here are shared by a very small number of people, NOT a majority. This is especially true since the majority tends not to say anything. This results in flawed assumptions by some that since they only see complaints then the problems must represent the norm.

When the minority has an issue, then many in the majority expect complainers to participate in troubleshooting. But too many complainers refuse, and that results in aggressive "fanboy" responses from people tired of those demanding to be spoonfed by volunteers.

It would be nice if everyone could digest this, and we then move on. But it keeps having to be explained over and over and over and over... and some are surprised when forum leaders get testy?

I think I read the whole thread.. did we ever figure out what programs the people complaining have installed?

I've stuck to extras on up and I don't have any of the problems that these guys have mentioned.
