Re: N900 overclock tests/results and new versions

Running Titan's regular kernel overclocked at 1Ghz 500DSP with 250Mhz minimum frequency for 3 days, no problem. Tried 1.1Ghz but images taken with the camera started getting corrupted with weird colors. So sticking with 1Ghz.. phone feels great, super responsive!

I modded my transitions.ini file too and decreased the duration times for menu opening and task navigation, so it even feels quicker!

Keeping the minimum frequency at 250Mhz is better I noticed. Rotation of images has no lags, also rotating the phone to open the phone app has no lags too..and moving from idle to opening an any app is instant.

Would never switch back to anything lower than 1Ghz! :p

Lehoto, how far are you with the 900 Mhz ulv kernel ? :)

Because of the nature of the medium, write operations cause shuffling around of random pages, to even out the wearing.

I doubt that.

In my best knowledge most of flash memory chips do not move pages on it's own behalf. And one of equipment known to me which moves pages (it was not a single chip) did it with attention to failures - if write fails it doesn't update page table.

Flash chips only select page location for new pages in some pseudo-random manner. So, if you fail - you fail with only page which is just written.

Of course, there is a problem of file system pointers writes but usualy it is not a big problem with modern FS - it has a lot of duplicates and so on. Not sure about UBIFS...

just wondering, if you apply lets say 1 ghz kernel, does the device constantly run at 1ghz? or does it underclock like normal but overclocks to 1ghz when running a cpu intensive app?

It will underclock like before, some kernels even set the minimum clock from 250MHz to 125Mhz!

In my phone, the best kernel in speed-stability-battery-temp, far away, is Lehto's 125-950-500.
Titan ones are nice but, I don't know why, makes my n900 more instable than Lehto (100% perfect for me)

ok so thread title says overclock test/results.

do we have any sort of standardised tests to compare different kernels/stability etc?

dont wanna hijack, but the other thread is too voluminous to tackle.

quick questions:
1.only way to apply this is a complete manual reflash?
2.any way to preserve user data when flashing? im curious but dont want to start from scratch

You are only flashing the kernel. Takes about 2 secs, you don't lose data unless something goes wrong.

Overclocking is like smoking.
You just don't see you're killing yourself earlier and you just can't stop.

And usual warning on the pack that is usually ignored:
