If you are happy with Maemo, then there'll probably be no point in installing the hacker edition. The qt apps should work on the n900 unless there is some particular hardware requirement e.g. compass

I think it'll end up being like the iPhone-iTouch-iPad situation

I'm curious will maemo.org still exist when Meego come will the app catalogs still be there will everything be fully functional because honestly with qt no point in getting Meego or upgrading Maemo is a better os I'm just saying will Nokia continue to support the Maemo community.

maemo.org should still exist. Nokia has promised future updates for the n900 and I'm guessing this will be mainly qt upgrades. If our version of qt is consistent with what is on symbian^3, symbian^4 and meego then we shouldn't have a problem.

Well that was my biggest fear that Nokia would try to obsolete the n900 just like they did with previous internet tablets but ok so there is still the community and maemo.org and all of that well good to know. Also I don't want to buy a new device that Nokia calls an upgrade ok I'm sorry removing the keyboard is called downgrading it no matter what way you put make devices some with keyboards and some without don't take the htc approach and make all your devices look the same.

That's my main concern because it sounds too straight forward because the only reason I'd want MeeGo is because of the apps or better hardware.

Wouldn't Meego bring essential things such portrait mode and mms

Theoretically, if all devices have the same version of qt then the application can be compiled for each OS provided there are no other requirements (e.g. compass).

From playing around with the Nokia's new SDK, this is as easy ticking a checkbox after making your app

It could but nobody knows yet. Looking at Aava mobile's potential MeeGo device. Things could get very "IPhoney"

What worries me is a developer would not choose to support the n900 because it is technically obsolete I will wait and see. Doesn't a developer technically have to support the device.

Choosing not to support the n900 would be very stupid especially hen it is very easy. The developer is trying to make money so if the app is available to more devices then it is more profitable. The developer doesn't make money from device sales but from app sales. If the developer willfully chooses to "obsolete" the n900 then that's just ******ed
