When I started this thread, I did it to give a public/general insight to info that is not classified or company secrets. As you may have gleaned from your readings I work for the US govt so I am quite familiar with information disclosures, what can and can not be said. So once again, the info I put out is not top secret and has been discussed on this forum in several places. The problem occurred when Milhouse decided to jump in to the thread, not to add info or to be helpful but to purposefully derail it. Then enter Texrat with the same intention. I am sure you got this as well. For the most part others here have asked questions, answered questions and tried to move on. I did this as well when I asked Milhouse several times to just move on, put me back on Ignore and not address anything to me. You got this as well I am sure. So, I am quite sure that you have no problems in seeing that initially I tried to drive on but they came back and came back picking a fight in a thread that they had no interest in really participating. Anyway, thanks for you honestly. Cheers. |
Re: Happy days. Skype and a new F/W version coming soon.
What I don't understand is how someone who was complaining a week and a half ago that he paid full retail price for a device that wasn't ready for "prime time" and that he was going to put it in drawer until there was apps compelling enough for him to use is now all of a sudden a bigshot having meetings with Nokia about said device and its development cycles. That doesn't make any sense.

It is true I said, I would put it in the draw, it is true I said that it is not ready for "prime time". However, it is also true that after reading several posts from other members here, I reevaluated how I was using the N800 and I realized that I was asking for things it was not designed to do and once I readjusted my usage parameters it performs pretty much as designed and can provide an enjoyable user experience. Second, please post were I said I was a big shot. . My professional representation from my client to Nokia has nothing to do with how I feel personally about the product, and I can see many governmental applications for it. If you have read the thread other than resign yourself to your own reasoning, you would have seen why I was at Nokia. Third, at no time did I say I was involved with the development cycles of "said device"These are all figments of your imagination, however you are cordially invited to point a link to where I said this. Of course you won't as this is not how things work in this forum. The only post of this nature I can respect in that by fpp. He was honest and at least provided a basis for his feelings even-though, they were somewhat incorrect but, he had made an attempt to come to some sort of reckoning. You on the other hand read something and then make completely inaccurate accusations and will at no time return to say "opppppssss" or "now I understand" as this is not how this forum operates in relationship to some individuals. This is not a blanket statement such as yours but is directed to those whom it applies. |

Nokia couldn't have picked a worse candidate with whom to discuss their future plans if they had tried (assuming you aren't making this up of course, which is always a possibility as it does have a certain "whiff" about it). Oh and just for the record - I haven't contacted ReggieS, why would I? Have you? If not, why not - hurry up for gawds sake. |

If you are one of those "as long as it works I dont mind if it's closed source"-people, I honestly recommend you buy Windows-based products or look for what Apple has to offer. This is not meant to be impolite, it's a matter of fact: My experience is that the "just works"-factor is higher on these platforms than it ever will be on (semi-)open ones like Maemo. The appeal of open platforms is that you do not depend on the good will or business plan of one single company when it comes to updates, bug fixes, backports etc. You as a consumer decide what's more important; you should know, though, that you can't have both. (As seen with the abandonned 770 now.) The problem with ITOS200x (770/N800) is that, the way it is now, it offers the worst of both worlds: It heavily depends on Nokia, there's now way to develop it without access to their closed source components. At the same time it's open enough so users experience all the problems that are common with open platforms. There are 2 ways to go from here: Make it really open or continue as a totally closed source device that "just works". The second option might seem appealing to consumers at first, but don't forget there are quite a lot of devices out there that are just that way. You can go and buy one today. The charming idea about the 770 (when it was originally released) was the (false) idea of an open, thus future-proof device, and I still believe that this would be the right way to go. This is why I'm not so happy with Nokia's obvious plan of packing more and more proprietary components into the OS. Skype is part of this. |

I invited you to post what you KNOW as a fact that was a "guarded" company secret and you bring jack. Just your big empty mouth. If you can prove something then prove it, if not then it is: check and mate. So here it is again Mr. Attention Hog. You and a few of your minions have gone out of your way to best derail and destroy this thread, but luckily most are simply ignoring you. So for the sake of all here, either prove me wrong or move along. This has to be too good to pass up. Put me in my place and show everyone here in this forum that I have been making up "stuff". Surely this is not too hard a task for you. Someone of your superior intellect. Hell, use your minions to do your bidding and find out what was actually said. I am sure there are plenty here that are on your side and would like nothing more than to help put me in my place. Get cracking and get those posts in. All are watching and waiting for you now. The ball is now in your court. By the way, prove all of your claims, starting with what is and is not secret. My name, with whom I met, time and place. What governmental rep was there (freebie from me to you), and the agenda that was discussed. Anxiously awaiting your answers. As for contacting ReggieS, sure you did. That's just how you operate. |
Re: Happy days. Skype and a new F/W version coming soon.
@Benny1967 and Dunsun,
Would a compromise be a possible colaboration with Skype and maybe another 3rd party org like Gizmo? Considering much work has been done with the N800, this should offer Skype and Gizmo a first hand (hands on) group of developers that know the ends and outs of this device and the underlying OS. |
