Might be in other countrys aswell, but that's not common practice around the world.

When PP started there was almost no excluded countrys and I opened mine in 2005 (linked to CC, not bank account) and was operational for a year. Than PP excluded my country from list of supported countrys (for unknown reasons, at least for me) and we are on list again for say, 2 years? All this time my account was active, but unusable for any purchase. Did I mention I can't link bank account?

Something like this can happen again and from my point of view PP is not a reliable option.

Send. Receive. Withdraw to a U.S. Bank Account or a card.

Send and receive payments in these countries. Withdraw from your PayPal account to a U.S. bank account. In addition, withdraw to a credit, debit, or prepaid card in countries marked with a (+).

Thanks for this -- I know about withdrawing to a card (Visa electron is quite popular here), but still require some knowledge to accomplish -- for ie., lots of ppl haven't heard for such card (visa yes, but visa electron?) and my bank doesn't have this type, so I need to go to another bank. It's doable, but consider this as workaround, temporary solution :)

The funny thing is that they (PayPal) deal with this on a per-country basis, so it doesn't matter if you are part of both the EU and EuroZone you still get different rules in different countries (or, in my case, the total non-existance of paypal services in the middle of Europe).

There are no conversion fees when you buy from OVI since they charge in your location's currency.

Some CC charge when you use them outside your country.

I assume you haven't bought anything from OVI..

There is just one point that I hope for Nokia. As the middlemen in this vortex of activites, Nokia should represent the interest of all parties included the best they can.

They should make it easy for buyers to purchase stuffs from Ovi. They have a lot to do with variables that could affect pricing of individual products sold through Ovi store. How can they be beat by Apple, which is known as the premium seller commanding premium prices?? (ok, there's no need to repeat the previous debate points; N900 is a special case, but I think you're seeing similar numbers on Symbian front which nullifies a few of the counterpoints raised).

They should make it easy for developers to produce and distribute their wares through Ovi. Having a special relationship with the OSS community, I can't believe they didn't try to accommodate non professional developers to publish their apps in the Ovi store from the get go.

Being a global player with access to infinitely more markets than Apple, I can't believe them being beat by Apple in terms of the flexibility and cost of their online shop.

first I had adviced to contact credit card provider, my charges were removed within a hour.

and secondly I was referring to that $1 vs $6 ******** with my x0 vs ps3 -thing there.... different platforms can have different prices. there is no use discussing it because it changes nothing, not even talking about ranting.....

I don't recall paying 500.00 for a PS3 version for a 50.00 XBOX 360 game. Do you?

If you're going to compare something, try being consistent with the problem we're seeing here.

Or be smarter with your comparisons. You could have picked up Tetris for a great counter example. On the iPhone, it's 99 cents. On the Sony PSP, it's 4.99 via the PSP Minis - that actually supports your view and it is inexplicable and rather stupid on Electronic Arts part.

Regardless, the whole "it won't change a thing"... I disagree. Via awareness, people might actually complain to the proper authorities.

@Saturn - I suggest reading the thread. You obviously missed how the OP got hit with some fee and OVI hasn't responded. Some folks stated it was a conversion fee, some folks have stated otherwise. However, Nokia hasn't said anything and I was responding to a "what if" question basically concerning overseas transactions. Try following next time.

Can't wait until someone buys an app for £1 from Ovi Store only to be charged an additional £1.50 in "exchange rate" fees by a bank that sweated beads shuffling a single digit out of one account and multiplying it by an another number (the exchange rate) before depositing the result into another account, the kind of thing an IBM mainframe does in a nanosecond all day and all night.

Aside from the fact that banks charging an "exchange rate fee" for an entirely electronic transaction is pretty abhorrent it's also pretty obvious that Nokia reforming the banks is not going to happen in my lifetime so Nokia getting it's act together and processing sales locally without the need for currency conversion would make a lot more sense and avoid p1ssing off customers left right and center.

And while the possibility of additional charges may be buried in the T&Cs nobody reads those so at least reminding customers at point of sale would be a very good idea.

Offering local processing would also avoid the ridiculous situation where the banks will most likely make more profit out of Ovi than either the developers or Nokia combined.
