Not the same thing. Size... But eventually hardware keyboards will disappear for computers as we know it today, yes. And computer input will evolve.

I'm cool with everything in your ideal phone except the hardware button below the screen. I wouldn't mind more buttons around the device. But I'd rather not have any buttons take away from screen space like older android phones do. Even the gemini pda does that a bit.

Since it’s much faster type on a software keyboard...when it comes to small phones.

Is it more for visibility and general feeling?

No, you can type with hw qwerty while driving, without looking to keyboard. It's much slower to watch and write with software keyboard.

Jeah, we should bring our case to the EU.

"Special exception for use of mobile phones with hardware keyboard and proven ability to blindly operate the device while driving"

It is somehow unfair that only Finnish residents seem to have this right. :D
Is this a remnant of the formative Nokia era?

Man, you should obviously not even have a phone at all :D

Get out of the car, sir!
Drop that QWERTY, you are under arrest due to your weapon of choice.

Hope he is doing fine. But he left Nokia, Nokia left maemo so I don’t see any real reason for him to stay.

Not sure what he is doing now, though!

I fail to see the logic.

I likelove poppy seed strudel. I work in a bakery that makes poppy seed strudel. I leave the bakery and the bakery stops making poppy seed strudel. In your logic, it means you see no reason for me to like poppy seed strudel any more.

Actually, you are. If you find that people "do not get you", the problem is more often than not in the way you express yourself.

So I’m responsible for what you understand?

You can dissagree. But if you don’t understand the underlaying logic. I can’t help you.

Some further interesting finding regarding the distance of the top row of keyboard to the edge of screen.

N810: ~2mm (Wondering the comment from Endsor)
N900: ~3mm
N950 and E7: ~4mm
HTC Touch Pro 2: ~5mm when in flat, ~2mm when lift screen up
FX: ~3mm from the picture, ~4mm after improvement

Not sure how much Moto's slider leaves. I think between 3-4mm would be a good balance for comfortable use and a good look.

Nice to know the exact numbers!

To add one:
The Motorola Droid 4 has 3.5 mm.
Even with the 3mm of the N900 it is very comfortable to type.
(but less would be bad!)

You can always send Your N950 to me if it feels too stiff ;)

Sorry OT...

These kind of changes are great and informative. But what does it mean in terms of a potential phone. Can you do changes like these and still deliver in Q1 or is it more like Q1 next year. What kind of changes must be done to get 1mm.

Body work must be done. Some basic tests maybe try out build test devices for production unit, release party and announcement.

That can probably be a solution to some wonders but not stuff that one single dude knows in this thread.

Or do you mean mind reading?

Something have to go when you do changes. The result of the change might be great but at what cost? Thinner, weaker, delay, forcing other changes, durability....

No jokes from my side. Atleast not in my last few posts. Possibly some in last year. It was just a simple question how the 1mm change was achieved. How stuff like that impact project. If project still evaluate body work an changes an improvement.

I'm not digging up chens ost for you, but he has written it was a prototype some months ago in that picture with the Nokias. And it was written that it had been noted back then.

Maybe I need to find the post to see if he has actually written 'noted and fixed' but the following post of chen made me think so. I think, sometimes implicit statements should be enough, especially if - as you always insist on - there is no final product to be seen.

I really hope this phone is getting a release in Q1 this year!

Then again, rushing to get something to the market quickly is a bad idea.

No need to dig up anything unless you have a quality QWERTY buried at your backyard.

Sounds reasonable. What I was trying to establish was if they are still doing changes prototyping or if they actually can be ready. 2 month is not a huge amount of time. I think Q1 will be tricky for launch.

no worries. There is always a new Q1 soon.

The Bee said on #278 something like this:

Yes, they will be attending MWC
And if he/she is insider, that Q1 maybe true... And maybe it is ;)

This phone is being developed for over a year now. It's not rushed.

Everything is going according the road map. Q1 2019 is still on

Great! I’ve heard that before. Seeing is believing!

Looking forward to the MWC. Both flexible screens and this potential phone will be cool to check out.

You have much better alternatives for Android though. But Rockbox is available on Android, so yes it works on this device.

What kind of version of Android will it use. Official, black market, hack?

Or will it have any official or community updates?

It will have out of the box: Android 9 (Google Certified) with Google apps and stock as possible.
But the bootloader is unlockable so you can flash whatever you want.

Pure android without spying google would be better choice.

As sad as it is: Not for the "normal" user.
They expect Gmail and Play Store and Google Maps and the device has to sell.

An unlocked bootloader will make it very easy to install Lineage OS without GApps.

I have bought two android phones from China and there is no Google play there, I think it's illegal there?

They need to be certified. If they aren't, they can't put Google Play on it.
Fx will be certified.
