wait, the fingerprint reader is working now? How do I enable it?

edit: also, not exactly a SFOS feature but OKBoard support is still missing on the Pro1

Fingerprint was introduced ~3 weeks ago to devel.

If you are on testing branch and did not update in last 2 weeks, a dist-upgrade should pull the changes.

Code:

# zypper ref && zypper dup
There are few reports however of the settings option not being available in Jolla Settings. So you might already have sailfish-fpd-community package installed but not seeing UI options to configure.

In that case there is a testing app attached to this post to at least test the hardware.
But how to get it to working to unlock if settings options are missing is beyond me.

taixzo 2020-08-13 13:42

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

I cannot zypper dup, apparently; I get a bunch of "missing package" errors, mainly about "nothing provides libstdc++.so.6(CXXABI_1.3.9)"

Can you double check that you are currently running SFOS 3.3.0.16?

mosen 2020-08-13 14:55

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

It smells like you are on sfos 3.2 still?
In that case update to 3.3.0.16 first.

Code:

devel-su
ssu re 3.3.0.16
version --dup
reboot

Also you might check if you are in safe "testing" waters since on devel things changed frequently and our testing-user advise might not apply.

Thanks! I suppose that's what I was asking on the last page about how to update to the latest SFOS version. And thanks for the tip, I was indeed in devel and have now switched to testing.

I do note that after switching to testing, my Pebble stopped connecting. Have the bluetooth fixes not made it there yet?

I'm a complete idiot. My Pro1 is in a bootloop after I updated. I should have switched to testing. Especially, because I sacrificed my backup on my SD card for more Space for photos, while I was on holiday.

So I decided to reflash.
Unfortunately It seems like I totally killed my device.
When I try
Code:

fastboot set_active a
I get
Code:

error: Device does not support slots.
(fastboot devices lists my device)

Any suggestions???

Had that issue when initially trying to flash SFOS onto the F(x)tec Pro1. Nothing to do but try multiple times and with different cables. Ended up working with a cable going from a USB-C port to a USB-A adapter to a USB-A to USB-C cable. Maybe a straight, proper, standards compliant USB-C 3.1 cable would work.

Have not been able to replicate it, so could have just been a fluke.

That behaviour has been reported before.
All reported flashing issues involved usb3 in some form and the advise to either use usb2 port or a usb2 hub solved all cases i know off.

@Fellfrosch,
Either it is usb3 problem, or if you got deeper trouble from the devel-update, revert to factory state using the Factory-Restore Tool maintained by tdm.

Viel Erfolg!

@taixzo,
Sorry to hear and it will not help you when i tell you that pebble connection should be possible in testing...
EDIT, just tested and it works on my end, but:
I had to restart the rockpool service from within rockpool dev-tools while it was connected shortly to not let it disconnect after some seconds. After that first hickup it connects reliably now "even" after reboot.

Thank you - I restarted the service and now it does indeed connect. Interesting behavior.

Great to hear :)

I observed this already from the start and needed to do the service restart to get the pebble working initially.
From what i remember i needed to do it after every reboot even and was surprised it persisted now.

As Mosen mentioned, the Factory Restore Tool should fix your device, don't lose hope! Sad to hear however that you deleted your backup just before.

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

Hi guys, Pro1 is booting sailfish again! Thanx to all for their help. The problem was indeed just the USB3 port. After using a USB2 port, problems vanished into air and i could flash easily with fastboot. So now I have to reconfigure my device and than make a backup, which I for sure will not sacrifice for photos again. At least I backuped my pics before I did the update on devel. So no data is lost. And I just had some time wasted thanx to my stupidity.
Lesson learned :D

The meaning was that it was not possible to replicate the success of not having this problem, and that this problem still plagues my Pro1 to this day.

The problem is definately a known one, that is not being refuted.

Sorry if there was a lack of clarity in the statement.

Same for me ;)
I just wanted to asure you that you are not alone with this problem and used the wrong words.

In recent discussion i read that it might help to let fastboot menu "settle down" for ~30 seconds. Have not had the need to try tho.

I have a quite strange issuse at the moment, which I try to get an idea for the reason: Starting Webcat or Webpirate takes ages (~30 seconds) no matter if I have Jolla QTWebkit or Llelectronics dev-version installed. (Crest doesn't start at all).

I compared the start from Terminal with my XperiaX when I start on Proš there are is this line (twice), which ins't there on my Xperia.
Code:

unknown:0 - const QList<TransferMethodInfo>& TransferEngine::transferMethods() "Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."
Anyone an idea?

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

So the bluetooth fixes are good for the Pebble...but bad for phone calls. I have a pair of bluetooth headphones, which I usually have connected. Before updating, if I received or placed a phone call while connected to the headphones, the audio went through the Pro1's ear speaker and microphone. Fine. However, now that I've updated, if I answer or place a call while connected to the headphones, the audio goes...nowhere. No sound comes out of either the headphones or the phone speaker and the mic also picks up no sound. The phone thinks it's in headset mode according to the UI. Is there any way to disable audio rerouting for calls only?

Thanx tho Leszek I found the problem: I had GhostCloud additions installed. This broke the sharing plugin and caused webcat and webpirate to take ages for starting.

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

Quick update after about 2 weeks with the Pro1 : this has so much potential ! :D

So , the "low power mode/glance screen" doesn't work as expected. I sometimes shows when not expected (after lock), but not when I need it. I have seen that there are some mce related traces available in the journal, so will have to search if I find something missing there. On a related note, when in a call, the proximity sensor blanks the screen, and I have noticed it never really come back when removing the ear from the proximity sensor, but pressing the power button makes it flash back a bit before entering sleep. That is the same sensor as used in the LPM so could be related ?

My MMS problems are "solved". I now have an IPv6 setting for it (I am almost sure it was not like that on my Jolla...) and the wifi can be activated but not connected for the send/download to succeed... I mostly blame SailfishOS, but could have some responsibility with the operator and the Pro1 port. I will keep an eye on it, if I find something...

I got containers working. I must say I was a bit impressed when I saw the XFCE desktop on the screen, but that was running Chromium full screen with a live youtube video (which no native sailfish app I found can do) that shocked me ! I need some more time to properly use LXC, but man, that is something of great value !

I got my device just over a week ago.
It must have been the last one of the official preorder period as the form was filled in on the last day of the preorder period but it was send a couple of hours after midnight (so the next day).
It was a long wait but man am I glad I got it.

Question 1:
Is there any chance to flash my device to sailfish using a laptop running windows10?

Question 2:
Does anybody know why the device won't stay OFF when it's connected to a charger?

Charging is controlled by the OS, so it has to boot into something to actually do anything with the power. This is the case with many modern phones as well; if they are off when connected to a charger, they will boot into a minimal battery-charging OS.

For Q1: As long as you install latest ADB and Fastboot they should just work under Win10 (I am using Win 10 as well)

For Q2: Under fastboot perform:

fastboot oem off-mode-charge "1"

It should enable charging while off.

Yeah, but mine boots the entire OS. Not what I was expecting but fortunately it can be changed. :D

Hi !
I tried to switch from the devel to the testing branch, and then I rebooted by typing "reboot" in the terminal. But I'm now stuck in a boot loop ...
Any idea of how to debug this without flashing the Pro1 ?

n900user259 2020-08-28 09:59

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

So flashing to Sailfish was easy enough. The look and feel on this device is amazing.

The charging "anomaly" I noticed where the entire OS is booted is also present running Sailfish.
Executing Chens instruction results in the phone charging with no other indication than the charging led. So that solves my "problem" but I do wonder why no indication is given on screen (like a percentage as shown on the Jolla1).

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

As an amateur blacksmith, I discovered an interesting bug with Pro1/SFOS: it cannot take pictures of hot metal.

Steps to reproduce: 1. Heat a piece of steel until it is glowing at least red hot. 2. Point the Pro1's camera at it and press the shutter button, the on-screen button, or the volume button. 3. Observe that no picture is taken. It does take pictures just fine if I point it away from the hot things.

Kabouik 2020-08-30 23:00

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

Dumb question, not trying to be rude, but could it just be your fingers moving slightly from the curved edges? I've had a fair amount of pictures not being taken when pressing the shutter button just because I was slightly touching the screen edge, sometimes it was not clear but I suspect there was some static electricity or something. Pulling the keyboard to hold the phone usually worked.

taixzo 2020-08-31 01:12

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

That was my first thought, which was why I tried with my hands in different places (hence testing the buttons on the side as well as the touchscreen one). I also verified that I could take a picture without moving my hands if I pointed elsewhere.

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

Very curious effect!
Have you tried other mobiles/cameras in the same situation, is this thing just related to the fxpro or could it be other cameras are also affected?
Could it be something with strong IR radiation of a certain wawelwngth that messes up the camera or maybe causes it to not obtain focus lock?

taixzo 2020-08-31 06:49

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

I'm going to do some more testing tomorrow! Unfortunately I cannot test my Xperia X because the camera no longer works, but I can test a Nexus 5 and my original Jolla 1.
IR affecting the focus was my guess. Although the view in the camera doesn't seem to do the focusing back and forth that it does when trying to focus in the dark.
I know that dedicated cameras are not affected; I can take pictures of it fine with a GoPro, a GoPro knockoff, and a Casio Exilim.

taixzo 2020-09-01 03:43

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

So I did a bit more testing today. The other cameras are fine taking photos. I discovered that if I block the second lens on the Pro1, it seems to work.

Also, after rebooting it seems to work without doing that most of the time. Strange.

taixzo 2020-09-04 05:07

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

New problem that came up today: my phone has stopped resolving DNS. I can't find anywhere in the wifi settings to configure it and am not familiar enough with SFOS to do it from command line (editing /etc/resolv.conf doesn't seem to do anything).

If I try to ping a domain, it seems to find an ipv6 address but fail to connect to it:
Code:

# ping google.com
PING google.com (2607:f8b0:4006:808::200e): 56 data bytes
^C
--- google.com ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

Same result for ping6. I can ping ipv4 addresses directly though:

Code:

# ping 8.8.8.8
PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: seq=0 ttl=117 time=17.478 ms
...

I cannot ping6 any ipv6 addresses.

This behavior is the same both on wifi and on cellular network.

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

My experience ever since: networking is extremely unreliable on the Pro1. Sometimes nothing loads, sometimes things do load but very slowly, sometimes everything works fine. I cannot ping any website but I can usually curl them. I cannot listen to podcasts anymore via podqast, as the downloads never complete. I also cannot use online routing in any mapping app. However I can usually load webpages in the browser and load posts in quickddit.
I've tested on my home network, on public wifi hotspots and on 4G. Same thing. The device is basically unusable.

Zeta 2020-11-08 15:44

Re: SFOS on F(x)tec Proš: progress, issues, tricks, free chat

That will sound like a noob question, but that is the first sailfish device I have that is a community port, so...

The pro1 doesn't show me the update for the OS (3.3.0.16 currently). My original Jolla updated to 3.4.0.24.
I particularly like the update to the default web browser, that allows some sites that were broken to work again (an FM radio web player in my case), and crashes a lot less.

Is it already available through zypper/ssu/version --dup, or is something needed from the porter to make it available ?

If available, did someone try it and can report if there are some issues with the Pro1 that would justify waiting a bit before updating ?

Thanks !

If networking "in general" seems to work but things are behaving erratically or slowly it usually indicates some problems in DNS resolving.
Have you tried to set up a different name service to see if it makes any difference?

In a bored moment, I tried to upgrade using the sfos-upgrade script, and it broke in an interesting way. About 30 seconds after boot, the screen blanks and stays that way. I haven't investigated further, but I'd suggest you don't try it unless it's confirmed working.

Maybe look up the telegram group if you want the latest info?
