Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
I have installed the latest sliderotate 0.0.21.diablo setup.
When first prompted with how to have it rotate the screen, I left the power button option checked. Well, since removing the check or even having it checked again, my power button does nothing. So either way, having it checked or unchecked now, it won't rotate the screen or bring up the prompt so I can lock the screen. Is this a small bug and is there another way to lock the screen now? |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Press the power twice, you will then get the menu to lock the screen.
|
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Yep, that worked!
Thank you! |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
No problem, I will try to make next version so, that if you don't want to user powerbutton for rotation, a single click will bring up the menu.

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Hello,
I just installed Diablo update and the screen rotation is all messed up. Should I reinstall the rotation package or is this something more serious? Thanks. Denny |

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
If you have sliderotate installed, just rerun /root/install-xrandr-kernel.
If not, you will have to update kernel and xserver manually. |

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
If you followed the method described in wiki, you don't have sliderotate installed.
You will have to install the kernel an xserver-xomap again as instructed in the wiki or uninstall becomeroot and click this: http://mikie.dy.fi/maemo/sliderotate-diablo.install and follow the instructions. becomeroot conflicts with rootsh, which is a dependency in sliderotate. Both provide basically the same effects, but since there is no need for an extra repository for rootsh I prefer that over becomeroot. |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Dumb question, but I still cannot get the last package, kernel-diablo... to install. It needs flash-and-reboot. I belive I've added the proper Extras repository and issued apt-get -f install but it just won't resolve this issue. Is there someplace I can manually download this package?

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Alright, well I followed the steps in the wiki again. Did the diablo update make any changes to the kernel? Did I just overwrite them with an old kernel?

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
guys i need help in fixing the rotation on my n800. i had previously installed rotation even before the wiki was made and i am not sure which of the instructions i followed but i got it working nicely.
the latest diablo SSU update broke my rotation, now it only rotates the touch area and not the image. i tried reinstalling libxrandr and xomap under red pill but still no joy. hope i get a response soon. thanks in advance! |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
you're missing the xrandr kernel
easiest method to fix everything. http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...621#post213621 |

thanks for the quick reply, i installed the sliderote from your link but my rotation is still broken, only the touch area is rotated. app manager tells me it successfully installed sliderotate but i did not find any settings on the control panel.. |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Did you follow the instructions? Click the "(re)install xrandr kernel"-button in sliderotatesettings, which you find in Extras menu..
|
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
I have no idea why this would not work. I had to do a reflash and start from scratch but I've got the rotation working! This breathes new life into my N810!

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Did you guys come up with an easier way under Diablo. Portrait mode is nice for browsing sites made for iphone. For instance: http://i.aljazeera.net or http://iphone.france24.com
If someone releases an iPhone theme then the N8x0 would look and feel like an iPhone. Then why buy an iPhone when you have a 2-in-1 device :) |

http://mikie.dy.fi/maemo/sliderotate-diablo.install I think you will find it quite easy. |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Thanks emjayes. It's still complicated and risky. The one-step install should be followed by:
1- After the package installation is complete, update the xserver-xomap by either the application manager or apt-get. 2- Then flash your N810 with this kernel and reboot to complete the installation Note: If you do not know how to flash the kernel or update the xserver-xomap, you are advised not to install this package at all, as you may brick your device while experimenting. Conclusion: I hope one day Maemo will have this feature built-in. |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
did you see this?
DO NOT QUOTE INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS BELOW THIS LINE IF YOU REPLY TO THIS THREAD! THEY ARE OUTDATED, AND KEPT ONLY FOR HISTORICAL REFERENCE! Most of the information after this line is outdated. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also read this: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...&postcount=202 in short: install the package, click Sliderotatesettings in Extras, select (re)install xrandr kernel and wait ~ 1 minute. Voila. rotation in Diablo. It could be easier I guess, but I think it is as easy as it needs to be already. |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Sorry emjayes. Looks like it's easy after all. Updating the kernel thing is making me hesitant.
Thanks anyways. |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
No worries, it has worked for a couple of hundred people, so I bet it will work for you too.
Anyway IF you screw the tablet while installing, you can flash just the kernel with a linux PC to fix it. Stats of installs: From my server all 1041 from itT 587 version 0.0.16 213 version 0.0.17 5 version 0.0.18 2 version 0.0.19 119 version 0.0.20 12 version 0.0.21 45 version 0.0.22 136 version 0.0.23 170 version 0.0.24 148 version 0.0.25 190 version 0.0.26 23 version 0.0.27 254 and from garage: https://garage.maemo.org/frs/?group_...elease_id=2015 a total of 1446 downloads Just go for it :D |

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Screen rotation would be very cool and I'd love to have it, and yet I'm a total Linux novice who just got my n810. How risky is installing this app?
|
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Not risky. Install from here, and you'll be golden.

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Noobie here. Unable to install screen rotation on my N800 after having installed it several times successfully in the past (*see below).
Current configuration: Diablo OS2008 4.2008.23-14 Penguinbait's KDE installed on MMC2 Qole's Easy Debian installed on MMC1 After step 7.d., from here) I consistently receive error messages. Here's the initial error message after entering "apt-get -f install": ~ $ sudo gainroot Root shell enabled BusyBox v1.6.1 (2008-05-22 10:32:35 EEST) Built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. /home/user # apt-get -f install Reading package lists... (I don't have programming skills, or a great deal of computer knowledge, so easy step-by-step solutions work better for me :)). I also may not want to try any risky solutions in the next few days, as I'm doing a short informal presentation on the N800 five days from now (Go figure - a noobie doing a presentation ) ----------------- *I've successfully installed this under the following conditions: - after a fresh flash -after installing just Qole's Easy Debian on MMC2 (i.e. without KDE) -after installing just Penguinbait's KDE on MMC2 (i.e. without Debian) (I did have trouble a number of times, though, trying to install the screen rotation first on a fresh flash, and then trying to install the Clone OS to SD after that. Doing the cloning step second, frequently resulted in "corrupt memory card" messages, no matter what memory card I would use. This order (KDE after Rotate) did work eventually, but it almost seemed random. The screen rotation/KDE installation worked every time, though, if I waited to do it after I had KDE on MMC2) |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
You should just install sliderotate. It's the easiest way. Choose update/reinstall kernel in the settings that pop up. This will fix any problems.
|
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Thanks lm2 - I'll try sliderotate in a few days (hesitant to try it before the presentation on Friday)
|
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
I uninstalled slideroate but it didn't completely restore my system to its pre-sliderotate state.... if I hold the home key for one second, it minimizes the open window. I still need to tap the power key twice to bring up the reboot menu. How do I restore these settings as well as anything else sliderotate modified durring its install, but did not restore durring its uninstall?
|
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Edit /etc/mce/mce.ini and change the settings however you like them.
|
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Thanks, can someone upload their unmodified /etc/mce/mce.ini from the latest diablo release ? Is there anything else sliderotate modified durring install but did not restore durring uninstall ?

Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
I've only just moved my N810 from Chinook to Diablo. The PC based software update wizard automatically offered the latest firmware, which seems to have the latest SSU already as part of the image. As such, I started in essence with a clean tablet running Diablo and the latest SSU.
I then tried to install sliderotate, which failed; the Application Manager would not install it due to "Problems" with the packages, a few missing packages (the xserver package was missing, the kernel flasher seemed to have a name mismatch), but it also complained about osso version issues (I can't remember the exact error). So, I tried to follow the wiki page and install all the tools manually. Everything was fine until I hit the install of the libxandr, at which point, again, Application Manager listed the following in the "Problems" section: Incompatible Application Version. It seems something has changed with the latest SSU preventing either solution installing... I know that people have been told once the latest SSU is installed to re apply the kernel change, but I wonder if something a little more fundamental has changed somewhere preventing the installs happening. I've spoken to at least one other person suffering the same problem of not being able to install the rotation support, and again, he already has the latest SSU installed first. Any help / pointers / ideas? |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
I don't think the rotation kernel has been re-built yet.
Installing the older rotation kernel will downgrade you. |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
but it appears I can't even install the utilities to do the downgrade....
I guess this means I'll just have to wait for the install files to be fixed as part of releasing the new kernel... |
Re: How to rotate screen on os2008
Hi i have been enjoying the rotation feature but i want to ask if it is necessary to keep both rotate-sb-plugin which came with the package and the sliderotate plugin, also today i had an update in the apps manager rotation-support-N810 but do not know which update it was though installed everything seems working, has anyone installed the update and which to clear this for me.
