MDK (Murder Death Kill)

I tried to get this running through DOSbox but could not get past the loading screens before it froze.

I would still love to play that on my N900

I haven't read the entire thread, but I'm putting in my vote for Neverball! Even w/o accelerometer control it would be cool.

[Request] American McGee's Alice (Quake 3 Engine)

Quake 3 (ioquake3 and OpenArena) are most likely the most impressive feats the N900 has shown us yet in terms of game ports, graphically speaking. However, they are not the easiest to play do to the fast pace of the game. American McGee's Alice that also uses the Quake 3 engine has a much slower pace, amazing graphics (and scenery). Thoughts?

Oh, yesssssssssssssss! Except that I doubt it uses the same engine as Quake3.

"Electronic Arts licensed Ritual Entertainment's Heavy Metal: F.A.K.K.² engine, which is in turn a modified Quake III Arena engine. The most notable changes in the engine include the use of the Tiki model system, which enables the engine to use skeletal animation among other things, the Babble dialog system which enables lip synching of audio with character animations, dynamic music system, scriptable camera, particle system and extended shader support.[4] The changes implemented to the engine for Alice remained minimal however. The game's .bsp files even retain F.A.K.K.²'s headers, albeit sporting a different version number."

I think the work is already 95% done, just needs a little tweaking to get Alice running on an N900 by using ioquake3. If it didn't use the Quake 3 engine I wouldn't bother bringing it up. Oliver McFadden expressed some interest but I guess he isn't working on ioquake3 anymore.

Re: [Request] American McGee's Alice (Quake 3 Engine)

American McGee's Alice is running on a modified quake3 engine, just like half-life is running on a modified quake2 engine.

I dont think this modified version of the engine is open.. so unless someone has created an open source version of the original engine... i doubt we will see this on the n900 ;(

Re: [Request] American McGee's Alice (Quake 3 Engine)

did i understand this right? so , if i say i would take the pak0.pak of Soldiers of Fortune, which runs on the quake 2 engine, can i just put it in the baseq2 folder of the q2 engine port on the n900 and the possibilities are high enough that it could run straight away without might modding anything? Great wtf ^^

okay tested it, doesnt work because of the modified engine. too baaad :/

Re: [Request] American McGee's Alice (Quake 3 Engine)

I think the big question here is what is the level of modification of the engine(s). Alice's .pk3 files are just zip archives. Thus anyone can see the data they are working with, compare it to a non-modified engine, and judge the level of modification needed and if it is even possible.

yaeh would love to se'em too. ragnarok definately + aaaaaaand hell yeah i want to see kingpin -lifes crime and of course the mighty ultimate carnage game : Deus "Fu..ing" Ex . i would even pay for the last one xD ( theres a linux port, which i dunno if its already released.)

Your cant compare anything with out the complete source code to the modified engine that alice uses..

I do not know that much about programming for games, but if you decompile (unzip) the data files for Alice and then decompile (unzip) the data files for Quake III and compare them, it might give some insight on how modified the compiler (engine) is.

It has not been ported to Linux due to the fact that it runs very well under WINE.

If we can modify the Quake 3 engine enough to run Alice, we can also run many other games. Depending on how much the Quake 3 engine is modified it might be possible.

Optln 2010-05-30 22:44

Re: [Request] American McGee's Alice (Quake 3 Engine)

Alice is a game which has been made with "Quake 3 Game Engine". It's not a mod, and probably has many more lines of 'closed' code build upon Q3. So it's not possible. But Q3 mods like Urban Terror or Team Arena expansion can probably be played.

Re: PC Games you want ported to Maemo 5?

I think porting games created to use a mouse like most DOOM style is not the best choice because of aiming.

Games like Prince of persia, Flashback, Out of this world, TOCA1, Dune 2 (touch solves mouse clicks) will be better for keyboard controlling.
