Re: Quake 3 on N900
Nope it doesnt exist
The pk3 are in (as in Windows 7) Nokia N900 > baseq3 When I do cd MyDocs, base q3 isnt there! When I launch Xterm, and do ls, I get MyDocs and baseq3. If I cd into baseq3, I have the following filesautoexec.cfg, cgamearm.so, q3.sh, qagamearm.so, bots.cfg, demoloop.cfg, q3config.cfg and uiarm.so. ^^^^^ I assume those files are from ioquake I cant locate the pk3 at all? |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
ok so i installed gpe file manager
I tried to copy the pk3 files from: /home/user/mydocs/baseq3 to /home/user/baseq3 This failed, because I dont have permission. So, instead I copied the cfg and so files from /home/user/baseq3 to /home/user/mydocs/baseq3 This worked. But quake 3 still isnt running :( |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
Got it working finally :d

Re: Quake 3 on N900
Here is a simpler guide for installing Quake 3 on your N900. It worked for me. (Thanks to llaadd too, as it contains parts of his guide)
- On your N900 open the web browser and goto http://repository.maemo.org/ - Click on install next to "Fremantle Extras-Deval" which is half way down the page (WARNING - Do not install unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing and have fully read and understood the above information from qgil) - Give it a few seconds and it should load up the application manager, click on add and it should update the catalogue automatically - Goto the games sub-menu and find ioquake3 and install it - If you get an error installing and it asks for "Libgles1-sgx-img", it is because you have disabled some of the other repositories, make sure you keep the default ones enabled all the time!! - Now, find and install GPE File Manager. - Plug in your N900 into the PC, and when you get to the files section, create a folder called "baseq3". - Copy the 2 .pk3 files into this folder. - Quake 3 files are located in 3 different roots. > /home/user/MyDocs/baseq3 - This is where your .pk3 files are > /home/user/baseq3 - This is where ioquake3 files are (you can ignore this tho) > /home/user/.q3a/baseq3 - This is where the .pk3 files need to be. This is a hidden folder. - Open up GPE File Manager and navigate to /home/user/MyDocs/baseq3. Copy both .pk3 files. - Now in the address bar in GPE File Manager, type in /home/user/.q3a/baseq3 and hit Enter. You will now see an empty folder, or with a file called crashlog.txt (If the folder does not exist, try running Quake 3 off the main menu first. It wont work and quit for you, the folder should then be created) - Paste the .pk3 files into here. Make sure you LEAVE the phone alone for 5 minutes or so. Even if the light goes off, DONT press anything or touch the screen, as it just cancels the paste. Let it paste all the way. And your done! |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
I really hate playing games on mobile phones because its barely playable and damn slow.

Re: Quake 3 on N900
Did PR1.1 add framerate for Quake?

Hooray, ioquake3 and libgles1-sgx-img (0.20091104.6+0m5) just installed flawlessly for me! The problem with libgles1-sgx-img has been fixed!

Re: Quake 3 on N900
Am I the only one who finds the controls HORRIBLE? The Duke Nukem 3D touch controls are so much better. Am I doing something wrong?
|
Re: Quake 3 on N900
FYI, I noticed it doesn't automatically create the hidden folder .q3a until after you run it at least once. I had to do that before I could paste files into the hidden path.

Thanks. Ill update my quick guide.

Precisely, the paks you gathered from the legal source disk have no bearing in the maemo architecture. IOQuake is the interrupter of these programs and is the only thing that has dependencies within the Maemo OS. 2d |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
i was playing with quake 3 before the pr 1.1 update, and there was something really annoying, the game couldn't keep in memory the cd key... is there a way to store it in the game ?? thx

Re: Quake 3 on N900
I can't find a reference here to the fact that you can use the demo download from idsoftware.com and just use the single pak0.pk3 in baseq3 directory.
I noticed the baseq3 directory was root owned, I chowned to user, and I have a link to MyDocs/ for the actual .pk3 for space reasons, although the demo pak is only 47meg. It's almost installable entirely without cmdline or root as long as it's willing to look in MyDocs by default and all that's needed is repository adding (until it is made live). You could consider asking ID if they mind packaging the demo pak file. Then this would work out of the box. Note: for anyone on a recent dist with a changed GNU tail and maybe different "print" binary, you'll need to fudge stuff to extract the pak. The file linuxq3ademo-1.11-6.x86.gz.sh from http://www.idsoftware.com/games/quak...e_section=demo is a self installing .sh but it's many years old. Make a tail and print script and put it in the 1st part of your PATH: #!/bin/sh exec /bin/tail -n $@ #!/bin/sh echo -- $@ PATH=/location/of/printandtail:$PATH sh -x linuxq3ademo-1.11-6.x86.gz.sh -target newdirectoryname cd newdirectoryname find . |grep pak You can work the rest out. I wonder if trying to loopback mount the .dmg with HFS+ filesystem support was an option on the mac download, or maybe the .exe was unzippable ? |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
I find the aiming with touch controls in this game horrible. Any way to make it more like duke nukem 3d?

Re: Quake 3 on N900
Does anyone here use OpenArena?
If so it would be awesome if someone could set up a Maemo/N900 server at home so we can all kill each other from our phones. It's really hard to play PC users :-( |
Re: Quake 3 on N900
I am having a hard time with this openarena game... it auto-runs backward even if ive set the auto run to off... or sometimes it just turns left by itself... any advice?
|
Re: Quake 3 on N900
Yeah I would like to be able to turn off the accelerometer controls for the game, it's way to hard to play like that.
Plus I just got the wiiController working with it which I find makes the game much more playable :-) I configure jump and shoot on the wii and then use the arrow keys , was playing online and actually got a few kills :-) |

First, download a copy of Quake III for the desktop (I am on windows xp) Next I will point out a tutorial that will explain it all. One thing to keep in mind with this tutorial 'the root directory' is your 'Data' drive on your N900. Follow the instructions and you should be all good to go. http://forum.dailymobile.se/index.php?topic=15687.0 |

Re: Quake 3 on N900
Can anyone give me the default default.cfg? I don't have it and using a empty one results in a pretty much corrupted menu. Please PM me with a link or something, I probably won't check this thread too often.

Re: Quake 3 on N900

Re: Quake 3 on N900
After starting a level, how do I go back to menu without finishing the level? I couldn't find a button that will pop up the menu?

Can I get all your .cfg's then? That would be nice :D

It's walk forwad automatic. How disabled this/accelerometer?
|
Re: Quake 3 on N900
You can't disable it I think. It's the way you walk. A bit unnatural, sure, and you wont be able to play against bot on high difficulty(I think). I think you should be able to use a PS3 controller to play. Read more in this thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=41693
