Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen protector
I know that the sheild that has been linked on a thread in the forum is the worst one i have tried on a device. You have to apply water and that is problematic, not to menation trying to get rid of the water. Good thing it was 50% off, since I wasted half of what I would have.

Firstly it's insanely hard to apply the full body thing, after 4 tries i still have edges that are pealing. Add to that you have to apply it with a spray, meaning it'll get your phone wet (!). Secondly it's nigh impossible to do it without leaving air bubbles. Most of the big ones dissapear after drying, but usually you're still left with at least 2 small ones. Lastly there's a more personal thing about it. The one i have has a "grippy" texture, which is fine for the back but not so much for the actual touch screen. I'd hate to see what that does for a capacitive screen. So yeah, if you get it applied correctly it's probably more or less fine. But the experience i've had with this one is enough for me not to try it ever again. |

Re: how are you going to protect your N900?
Just ordered the full body shield from Zagg, $23 including the fee for shipping it to europe.
(20% off with this discount code: PROTECT20) hope it won't ruin the touch screen's accuracy |

Martin Fields sounds better and better, but a bit too late as just yesterday after 6 days after i ordered it, Zagg finally shipped the thing. Still i heard from one Omnia HD owner that it's just as slipper as his HDs capacitive screen and he is really liking it. So i guess i of course put it to my phone and if i'm not liking it i will order the screen protector from Martin Fields when they finally get one for N900. |

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen protector
Can anyone tell me what the options are for us in the UK, regarding a sleeve... I was going to get the official Nokia one, but it doesn't really do much protecting now I've seen more photos. I'd prefer just a sleeve-y type thing...

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen protector
I'm extremely pleased with my N900 screen protector.
I have a DuraSec screen protector on my N810, and was happy with it, but I thought I'd try a protector with a less "squidgy" feel for my N900. I ordered the Qubits Hybrid Armour Soft Touch Case with Screen Protector from Amazon UK. The total cost for the case and screen protector (including shipping!) was only £3.40. It arrived two days later. It comes with an anti-static dust cloth which worked really well for cleaning the screen prior to application. Positioning on the screen protector was much easier than the DuraSec (or maybe I was just lucky). The screen protector has a great feel (smooth but not slippery) and I don't notice any reduction in sensitivity whether using finger or stylus. It has small cutouts around all the sensors and also around the little NOKIA bezel. Included in the price is a two-part plastic "soft touch" case. The top part clips around the screen, protecting the sides of the screen and providing a raised bezel effect (but the bezel doesn't go right up to the display area so it doesn't have the problems of the N8x0 bezels). The bottom part clips around the keyboard with cutouts for all the sockets and controls. Before I had this case I was worried about getting out the phone when walking along, in case I dropped it. The case gives much better grip and I'm not at all concerned now. There are two small downsides though. First, it adds a millimetre of thickness (maybe even 1.5mm) but only at the front. At the back, it doesn't make it as thick as the existing camera protruberance. Second, when you open the keyboard, the presense of the top half of the case slightly reduces the "free space for fat fingers" above the top row of keys. I don't find this a problem, but for some people it might be a slight inconvenience. Even if you just use the screen protector and not the case, it's a pretty good price. Regards, Roger |
Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen protector
Thanks for all that.
I've bought a DuraSec and am awaiting the phone, you've worried me now :( |
Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen protector
Hey eiffel,
As I needed something to cover the sides and corners of the phone I ordered the black plastic armor you posted. Together with full body armor (which doesnt cover sides) from zagg, it should be good enough protection if not overkill. I hope the screen doesn't lose much sensitivity :P I don't like pouches or carry cases as they add way too much bulk and if you need to remove the phone from the case it takes time. |
Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen protector
The armor really makes the phone feel ruggedized. I'm loving it, and have noticed absolutely no reduction in screen sensitivity due to the screen protector. I'm very pleased.
I did notice another minor disadvantage though. The part that fits onto the back of the device does make it slightly fiddlier to deploy the kickstand, although I don't use the kickstand frequently enough for this minor inconvenience to matter. Regards, Roger |

Says soft-touch case. Is this a soft case (rubber, silicone, and such) or a hard plastic case with a soft rubber coating? |
Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen protector
hey guys I didn't want to start a new thread on this and thought it would be okay in this one, but after I ordered my full body from Zagg, I wondered what is something happens to the device that doesn't cause you to have to send it in due to a malfunctioning issue but is just a vanity problem. like a scratched screen or really bad chrome edge scuffs, is there or will there be third party or Nokia site(s) to offer select parts to replace much like the iphone has.
seeing as though a lot of us in this thread have bought or will buy a protective casing for a device we dont have yet or just got, which implies we value it, so would you go through the trouble if you had to replace a part on it (if it were cheap enough and worth it ). |

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen protector
ive had my clear shield screen protector on my n900 for a few days now. very easy to install and adds a nice feel to the screen. feels like your fingers slide across the screen. at first i was worried since it covered the proximity sensor and the light sensors but after a few days of heavy use i havent noticed any drawbacks or side effects. For 7 bucks (off ebay at their online store) its a great bargain. the lifetime warranty is great as well. i highly recommend it for the prie, easy installtion, and feel. I'll post the link once i get home.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen protector
I am quite sure, that what is meant is "Clear Protector".
They do match the given description (no holes). (there is a 50% off coupon: "MILITARY", as heard elsewhere) Plus free shipping to a lot of places in the world. On top of my list, if I get a N900. :D EDIT: Respective ebay shop. But prices with the coupon seem to be better. |

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen protector
I have another pouch recommendation:
The Shinnorie Ringo Leather Pouch It is expensive, but the built quality is very high and you have quite a couple of customization options. Problem with this pouch is the design: It has been designed for rather flat phones, like iPhone or Touch HD.If you order it, you should select the "Large" version and write an E-Mail to Shinnorie telling them, you want this case designed to fit the Nokia N900. They are adjusting the size a bit (free of charge) so the phone fits. I have my Ringo Pouch for some time now and I am very pleased with it. The N900 fits nicely. Just rethink the "Cardholder" option, because the phone is so thick, it is pretty hard to get a credit card or whatever inside. |

If you know polycarbonate, that is a very stiff and rigid plastic. This case is nothing like polycarbonate. If you know polypropylene, that is a very slippery and flexible plastic. This case is nothing like polypropylene. This case is somewhere in between. It has a little bit of flex so that it will "snap" into place, and it's soft enough that I can't imagine any way it could damage the N900. It makes the phone chunkier, but it makes it feel very rugged and well-protected. I'm well pleased. Obviously different people are looking for different things, but at least this is one of the cheaper options so you might want to try it. Regards, Roger |

Caution to all of you who are going to install a screen protector. Do not use a fluid to apply it since i did so, maybe it is just because i used too much, but there is a big stain on my screen now. Top side of the device is not 100 percent liquid proof.

Re: N900 Case / Pouch / Screen protector
OK guys, I need some advice .. I already have the DuraSec protectors with me (the 5 pack one), but since my N900 hasn't arrived yet, I can't try them on ... so are these good enough, or should I get something else .. ?
Reason why I'm asking this is because I'm supposed to leave the US for holidays in a few days, so in case I have to order something else, I would have to do that now .. ! |
