So they are basically jsut re-doing the credit checks? Bugger!

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

Ok don't want to get anyone excited but literally seconds before my conversation ended on the phone with MPD. I heard a mobile ring in the back ground and the ringtone was EXACTLY the same sound as the one at around 48secs in this video...

http://www.youtube.com/user/Maemo5UI.../8/3eZu3nku2uM

Perhaps they've got them and are playing with them rather than working!

But I don't think the £2 has anything to do with them receiving stock, I've encountered this before when a credit check is done, but they have to perform another mini one after a while to make sre everything is still ok. Of course the optomist in me hopes they got them and thought let's just double check the credit checks are ok. lol

Haha how can you say that and tell people not to get excited?! Did u ask whether the N900 stock was in yet btw?

Sorry, I didn't want to get into that debate with him. But in my email I shall ask if the £2 checks are random or related to them receiving stock.

[Edit] Do any other Nokia phones have that version of the ring tone?

rob_27685 2009-11-27 12:08

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

Yeah I don't blame you, they must get hundrerds of calls/chats/emails every day about the stock. If we expect them on Friday anything before is a bonus IMO.

When was the £2 taken from your accounts guys? Today??

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

hmmm.. i would say this is good news as they started processing orders, doing the credit checks :) but there is people that had the £2 taken out before so that kind of complicates things? but this still a good sign :) ohh and when did you pre-order?

Dexter1759 2009-11-27 12:25

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

I pre-ordered 28th Sept, had first credit check 30th Sept.

rob_27685 2009-11-27 12:27

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

I preordered October 8th, credit check by the 10th. I would say this means they are processing orders too as Dexter and I must be near the front of the queue.

if people can report whether they've had this check today as well and also when they pre-ordered it might give us some idea. I pre-ordered on 21/10 on T-mobile just looked at bank account and no check :(

well at least we know it passed the credit checked :) so once the phone is out, there wont be no cancellation from MPD

Had they removed the T-Mobile option by then? It seems only T-Mobile people have had these checks.

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

I pre-ordered on the 24th Sept and had an initial couple of quid out and back in to my account shortly after the order.

Today another couple of quid has come out taken by T-Mobile. Not gone back in yet.

Here's hoping

Did you get it on a Vodafone contract? I dont think they do it that way. They take the information given and give it a score based on their own criteria. I have checked my credit file and Vodafone have never once done a credit check on me for any contract.

Thats the standard nokia ring, I have it on my n96 :(

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

When I say front of the queue I mean before the bulk of people ordered, so there might be a cut off point for the number of orders they could process yesterday. Before carrying on with it today. Or it could just be T-Mobile carrying out the checks again and being irrelevant to our orders

No, I had a t-mobile one :D
I saw the normal £2 deduction and then the £2 credit, but no activity today, though I will keep an eye out..

That exact version? If so, then, in my extreme optomism, I would argue that once some has had a phone for a few hours that ringtone would NOT be your default ringtone! So one could deduce that the phone I heard the other end of the conversation, was brand new and therefore delivered/opened this morning, so could be an N900.

...see optomistic!

Ordered on 18th Sept (all I see here are Johnny-come-latelys ;) ) and have had no credit checks. I am an existing T-Mo customer though.

Cheeky! ;) Mine was only 10 days later!

How does that work if your and existing customer? Did you order from MPD on a new T-Mobile contract or what? Surely, if it's a new contract the credit check would still have been performed?

Very optomistic. That's my ringtone in the N96 after I got bored resetting it every time I had to hard reset the c****y thing.

No-one calls me anyway - and if they do I don't pick up.

In my case it was a new contract, however at the very beginning of the order form they ask for current T-Mobile number (if any). Also T-Mobile can lookup from name and address details whether I'm already a customer, hence decide whether to do that debit/credit thingy or not.

That's how I understand it, at least.

Right so at the moment we could say every one who ordered on T-Mobile before October 10th (roughly) who ins't with T-mobile currently has had the credit check today? that makes 3 or 4 of us i think so not really enough to draw any conclusions from!

Don't be. I have plenty of friends and a lovely family - I just don't like phones much and everyone who knows me knows it. That's why I need the N900 to replace my N96 - phone functions are just not that important to me I need IM etc.

Except my friend has that ringtone on his 5800XM and he has had it for MONTHS. So your logic I am afraid is incorrect, some people just can't be bothered to change it or find the default is louder than anything they can find to replace it with. The reason he has it I think is because he has been updating the firmware lately so it keeps defaulting.

For the record, I have no changes on my account but my credit check seemed to have been different to everyone elses. I ordered 24th September on T-Mobile Combi20 and MPD did a temporary hold on £90.98 (the total amount I pay up front for the phone plus p&p) for 48 hours.

Like Evad I did also provide my existing T-Mobile number, which I think they may have used for T-Mobile to confirm my credit without a credit check (T-Mobile customer support said I am pre-authed for up to 5 lines with them). This makes sense then that MPD did their own check just to make sure I could afford the phone. Although personally I think making sure you have enough money NOW in your account, weeks/months before you are expecting to need it, is plain stupid.

I can only assume that T-Mo was able to tie my provided details to the status of my other contract. I may have given them my existing number like evad, but I honestly can't remember.
The credit check is a check on the person's credit-worthiness. There's little point in going through the time and expense of credit-checking a long-time existing customer who has had no payment issues.

Wishful thinking... I'd like to believe that too, but realistically I reckon we'll see our new little toys not earlier than next Fri/Sat. :(

I orderd mine on 10 October with a new TMob contract, currently with Voda, and according to FirstDirect there hasnt been anything done today other than my salary going in. My £2 was debited on 12 Sept and credited back on the 13th.

dont know if that helps or not.
