Here is another screenshot to show off a new task manager plugin. Inspired by Command Navigator (which is a great plugin) I have made Personal Menu

I also discovered that I can slide my weather things under the radio station listing bar. The assumption here is that you already are familiar *where* certain buttons are on the invisible radio box. It didn't take long for me to figure out intuitively where the radio buttons are and where to tap if I want to switch weather cities. The only downside is that the shape is definitely there so you can't just lower the radio station listings bar to the bottom of the screen or top (or make it narrower). Since I was futzing with some colours, the up/down arrows on the application menu are now pretty blue and the mail alert colour is, I think, cherry reddish. There were so many buttons and boxes and things on the ThemeMaker .png file that I didn't want to play too much with it since I'm not graphically inclined at all. I found the application itself was easy once I figured out in PhotoShop how to magic pen areas and just dump a colour in it with the paint can. But, like I mentioned, there are *a lot* of small graphics and, really, I quite like the cool blue of nuvoSourceImage.png so I didn't think there was much need to change many things. Now I'm just waiting for fiferboy to come up with an incredibly easy way to have a one-button application launcher to get rid of those irritating contact icons and I'll be pretty happy :-) Um... I've just discovered the theme's .deb is something like 748KB so it won't fit on the forum. I'm not sure what to do at this point and I'm on my way out to volleyball for the night... any suggestions? |
Re: Show off your screenshots
Here is the .deb file courtesy of Betty. I am just uploading it.
www.sfu.ca/~gsa7/deb/NiceLite2.deb Let me know if you have any problems downloading the file. I installed the .deb and it works well. (the desktop looks really good, but when you have an application open the top right hand corner looks a little messed up.) In any case, thanks Betty for the .deb file. |

Re: Show off your screenshots
Great stuff indeed! Hey, once you get the themes served somewhere stable, put them to the maemo.org/downloads as well! It's really just filling a form and putting the location of the deb file into the .install link. Send me an email if you need help with that! I love the NiceLite2.

Thanks Betty, I love the theme's desktop, it's really awesome.

OK. Now I'm confused.
Below is NiceLite2 as I see my desktop without and with an open application. If the minor loss of border just under the status bar isn't the only thing people are missing, what is it that makes ' the top right hand corner looks a little messed up' or 'makes the theme almost unusable'? My curiosity is piqued... . |

I really like to complain about the work that others put in to provide me with something for free.... This is a great theme and I, for one, appreciate the work you put into it. |
Re: Show off your screenshots
Honestly - whole thing took about three hours (and three versions).
It was *easy* and the only reason why it took *that* long was because I hadn't used PhotoShop in years and couldn't remember the basics like cut-n-clear, transparency settings and choosing colours (and I had dinner in the middle). Once I reaquainted myself with PhotoShop and fired up ThemeMaker, it was two boxes cleared, the radio box cleared and the station bar cleared and a light grey colour added at 20%-ish transparency, a couple of fun colour setting changes just for the heck of it and that was that. Then another 40 minutes total spent saving, loading and testing a couple of versions since I don't have a Mac emulator. But now I'm wondering if *my* version seems different from the .deb version people may be using... . When I'm in the mood for a light background, I'll have to use ThemeMaker again and create something like a NiceDark theme. Unless someone else gets to it first :) Now... get someone with a background in graphics or illustration... who knows good colour combos... and that's when the real fun can begin. Me? I don't go beyond "um... this blue is pretty. Maybe with... orange?" |

Time for update.
1. Normal mode. 2. Rotated. I replaced cmd-navigator with fiferboy's personal menu. does everything and more that cmd-navigator did. |
Re: Show off your screenshots
qwerty12: I love how screwed up your statusbar-clock placement is. Hours visible in the statusbar tray and minutes visible in the pull-down tray. I guess you use hours more frequently? :D
|
Re: Show off your screenshots
Lol, yeah :D
I only understand 12 hour but the statusbar cpu applet only uses 24 hour so the hours on your statusbar clock provide me with a good solution because I want to keep the other cpu-loadapplet in my main statusbar too without going into the 2nd line :) |

That has to be the most heavily modded homescreen I've seen, Qwerty. I like it.
Anyways, here are some of my screenshots with the new theme I made, NuvoClear, inspired by Betty Woo's NiceLite2 theme, and based off of NuvoPearl. I give Urho Konttori, the maker of NuvoPearl most of the credit; all I did was some editing. It still needs some work, but it's not exactly finished yet. Here it is if you wanna try it out: http://www.sfu.ca/~gsa7/deb/nuvoClear.deb Thank you, osofast, for the storage space. |

Re: Show off your screenshots
Me? I'm a minimalist. I like photographs and graphics and I find the icons and doodads too distracting since they tend to be so cartoony and space-hogging.
That's why I'm still hoping that OS2009 will remove the need for large icons on the left side of the screen, will allow more applets to appear on the left (or, at least, let there be a simple arrow down for a 2nd tier of applets to appear onscreen) and someone will come up with a simple applet like SimpleLauncher. It would also be great is someone could come up with a way to replace current icons with new ones with the same properties as replacement icons used on Macs or Windows machines - without having to go through the root function. Of course, I guess this makes me sound like a lazy Linuxian so let me claim that title right now: I Am A Proud Lazy Linuxian! (t-shirts will be sold on the way out of the building). |
Re: Show off your screenshots
I totally agree with you. Give me an option to edit the size of that sidebar and I'll cut it down by half the size. I'd at least like that option so I can change the icon properties easily.
Also, another gripe: more transparency settings for the interface would be nice. One of the biggest issues I had with making that theme was that the window borders could not have any transparency. That was extremely frustrating. This makes rounded-corner themes almost impossible if you want the "themeless desktop" look. I think I'll just square off the corners if I want to make a similar theme, or improve that one. Again, hate to complain about such petty things, but they bother me. Still, I'm sure such a thing is pretty small on Nokia's to-do list. I'd rather see some major software updates instead. Ps - thanks, osofast, for uploading my theme to FTP. Here's the new link: http://www.sfu.ca/~gsa7/deb/nuvoClear.deb |

Re: Show off your screenshots
I'll try to see later this week on how to add the background support back to theme maker. (just saying this aloud so that I cannot just push it to the future)
|
Re: Show off your screenshots
Initial support is now done. So, once I release theme maker later today, you can include the background image in the theme and it will then be available in the set background image dialog window main drop down where the suggested theme backgrounds are anyway. So, just to let you guys know that there is progress. I'll publish the next theme maker very soon.
