Re: Major speedup for Fennec after PR1.2
Its sad that the n900 browser is still 16000 points behind. how the hell is this even possible?
I must also admit that the iphone menu's and scrolling is 100% more smooth then the n900 scrolling. never saw a iphone stutter while sliding pages and menu's you cant say that of the n900 |
How old is the leaked PR1.2?
I was just downloading the nokia qt sdk beta and noticed this:
"The Nokia N900 mobile computer will support applications created with this beta in the forthcoming version 10.2010.09-3 firmware update." and the leaked is 10.2010.12-9 http://www.forum.nokia.com/info/sw.n...ia_Qt_SDK.html |
Re: how old is the leaked pr 1.2 ?

Re: how old is the leaked pr 1.2 ?
As I posted in a previous thread my thoughts
Everyone keeps saying how old this firmware is. If you check it against the SDK changlog and reported bug fixes it is about as new as it is going to get seen as PR1.2 was locked down on about the 8th April. Everyone calling this may want to do a little research as this is prob it in a can. All pics I've seen on net for HK released N900's have same firmware version Nokia would not release a half baked version there and a newer better one everywhere else. |

Old enough to tempt you... but immature enough to give you troubles ;)

You could stretch it and make a similar comparison to Chrome vs Firefox and how chrome gets a better score. |

Re: Major speedup for Fennec after PR1.2
@youxing: of course iPhone 3GS' test is done without flash. It can't playback flash files.
Is there a way to run the test without flash on flash capable platforms? |

Re: What works better in the PR1.2
I hadn't noticed this before, so it might have been present pre - 1.2, but I just noticed that if you start playing a video then stop it half-way, the preview icon is changed to match where you stopped watching!

1 thing I noticed today:
- mscim with mscim-hangul works a lot better. (as close to native input as possible now) (btw, hangul is Korean input) |
Re: how old is the leaked pr 1.2 ?
New and feature enhanced enough to provide a "got new toy feeling"!

Re: Major speedup for Fennec after PR1.2
Guys I tried the Firefox browser and got 19XXX from a OC 800MHz. BUT it is definitely not as smooth and snappy as the built in browser (MicroB?). Anyhow, so I'm just wondering it's not the numbers that tell the story! I just did it with my HD2 with a tweaked ROM and it's Opera browser is FAST but scored only 10XXX and under!!! Oh wells, I'm just a newbie, what do i know!

Re: how old is the leaked pr 1.2 ?
I don't understand why so many ppl got problems and other runs are very happy with the leakes firmware.

(Read this.) "Locked down" in this context means that at that time they stopped adding new features and improvements, and focus on stabilizing the project as much as they can until the release deadline. After that, the Beta stage and then the RC stage comes, and when the RC is stable enough, it is released. (That's then called RTM, GA, or PR.) Software release life cycle, Wikipedia |

Was just loading on a few bathroom items and ran into a young lady. She was rather chatty, and I just left it at that. Headed over to grab some more items, she's following me, still talking. So she accompanies me over to the soaps, lotions, et al. I'm thinking she's cute, nice tight butt, however something was just... "off". She's real chatty. Naw. She's too nosy? Naw. Too much makeup. Bingo. So after paying closer attention to her conversation, it's real shallow. I mean, like she only had very limited things to talk about. I'm still in "Uh-huh... okay... sure..." type of response mode for the most part, trying to figure out why this woman had latched onto me of all people in Walmart. Then I started paying more attention... her clothing, while stylish just seemed like it was not really her style. It clashed with the energy she put off. I finally had to ask her age. She told me 25. I didn't blink an eye, didn't turn my face... didn't show any emotion. Best poker face since the last time I bluffed my way to my last date. She quickly folded. She was 17... "I'll be 18 real soon!" Cue Winger's "Seventeen"... I'm double her age man! WTF would I want with a 17 year ol... oh, yeah. Well there's that.... But you know... I sorta like being outside, in the sun, free... not in jail... or having to register myself each time I move somewhere as some kind of "special" offender. And that was Thursday. I kid you not. The day I found out that my potential move to Pittsburgh would now be delayed indefinitely. Bad news after bad news that day. Oh well. She did think that I was cute and not 35, but there's no way I still have a baby face. |
[Leaked PR1.2 RC] Info and Discussion thread
I'd like to address the situation of people who have flashed to the leaked PR1.2 and now have problems going back to PR1.1.1
Bare with me as I explain and make my point clear. 1st, I am coming from the N900 perspective only, I didn't have an android or N8XX before. Some of us, have been working very hard to add programs, wikis and guides to help other N900 users make the best of out their phone - Or as some say, portable computer. People keep stressing the fact that the N900 is not a phone, and that it's open and you can install what ever you want on it. I don't see the difference between install mer, meego, and a leaked PR1.2 firmware on the phone. ALL of them are risky, all of them require some bravery, and ALL can lead to unexpected problems. Personally, I have been suffering with PR1.1.1 and also PR1.1, and PR1.2 Was supposed to solve a lot of problems for me. In fact, it DID. My N900 is working better then ever, and I have no problems with the leaked firmware. BUT, I see lots of people posting about having problems with PR1.2 (leaked ver) and other people are flaming them and shaming them for installing it. "You should have blablabla, now it's your problem" - I find this behavior childish and ugly. If those people would have installed something for extras-devel, and had a problem, I don't see a reason why other people would tell them "You installed from devel, now it's your problem" I see people helping them, and making the best out of a bad situation. Why did I flash to PR1.2? - I had lots of problems. - I was bored at home - I was tired of nokia secret policy where they don't tell us anything about the state of the firmware, no timeframe, no info besides that bugzilla. - I never realized the firmware can change anything hardwarish like the modem firmware making it irreversible. - I'd expect nokia to get their act together and maybe post on maemo.org a letter of warning that irreversible things can happen, with examples, cause we are not stupid people. - And yes, there was an ample dose of STUPIDITY. Do I regret doing it? - Yes. Do I think people should flame me if I am in trouble now? No. So please, Cut the crap, when someone has a problem, try to help them if you can - if you can't just move on - He already feels bad enough for doing it anyway - and I don't see the value of making him feel worse. |
Re: [Opinion Leaked PR1.2] Are we really to blame?
Stop making these same PR 1.2 threads all over.
|
Re: [Opinion Leaked PR1.2] Are we really to blame?
you can't compare pirated firmware and extras-devel. are you serious?
e: if you install stuff outside nokia and maemo extras, there is no one else to blame. community has enough work helping people out who face regular bugs etc, so people who flashed something from megauploads.com or similar can IMO be left sailing to a raft in the middle of a sea.... |
Re: [Opinion Leaked PR1.2] Are we really to blame?
I flashed the leaked PR1.2 onto my N900 and I couldnt be happier I even overclocked it with Titan's Kernel. It feels like i got a brand new phone everything is faster and it seems battery lasts longer in idle. Also Conky says my phone is running alot less processes with no programs running than with PR1.1.1

Re: how old is the leaked pr 1.2 ?
@gerbick: lol.. I was afraid if your story involve a walmart greeter at first... turned out it's literally about that.
Anyway I'm happy that the ol' pedometer still works :D |
Re: how old is the leaked pr 1.2 ?
Just took a quick look at the file and noticed this:
RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.12-9_PR_MR0 14>2.6.28-20101103+0 So I would guess that it was compiled on 11th March. |
Re: [Opinion Leaked PR1.2] Are we really to blame?
In order for people to help you, they'll have to be in the same position as you. I've seen some fixes here and there; but that's the risk you run using unsigned, unknown stuff.
I hope it will all be better for you shortly. |

And instead of being rude and aggressive, we should help each other. Anyway, the rest of your comment gives away your stable opinion, and I have nothing more to say about it. Edit : And I am definitely not looking to blame anyone but myself for flashing. And I have a few points in my defense. |
Re: [Opinion Leaked PR1.2] Are we really to blame?
Hell yeah we are.
Nokia warrants their products (hardware, software, services) on things they CERTIFY only. That means that they've put it through sufficient QA (quality assurance) process to put their brands on them and stand 100% behind the product. Unfortunately that 'PR1.2 RC' was swiped from behind the scene somehow and is not something that is 'stamped' with Nokia's 'blessing'. You reap what you sow... or something. |
Re: [Opinion Leaked PR1.2] Are we really to blame?
Even if the firmware released it was the "real" PR firmware people would spend their time
1) complainting about how unfinished the software is , why they had to wait so long for such a crappy release 2) calling others complaining about any bug found or even flash / backup restore related issue stupid and inpatient to flash the first hour of availability "You should always wait till user reports say it is safe, you pay the price of being the early adopter etc..." For myself it is very simple. Nokia somewhere has stated we could do whatever we like with this device. I have been overclocking and flashing expensive devices since my first 3DFX Voodoo 1 and Pentium 120 , even a S3Virge DX card did not escape at the time. Nobody needs to explain the rules of the game and if this place is not the place to ask for help and learn about our toys , the what is it? For now this firmware just works better than the previous one. Being called stupid because later some game might show not working? Installing the Meego command prompt release and complaining the phone does not work: that would be stupid. |

Perhaps we should create a .bin which when flashed to the device erases everything on it. We would put it on megaupload or stuff, and we could claim that it is the new PR 2.0. That lesson would teach people to NEVER trust stuff like that. |
