Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
Thanks...
umount leads to nothing... Invalid argument (I have done it)... I can't see anything running in the background and tried several reboots as well can I use killall command to try and shut something down? |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
Oh yeah...
This maybe the issue... Due to errors on my sandisk I had used this thread to get it partitioned... http://wiki.nitdroid.com/index.php?title=N900-install Do I need something else now? |

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
your microSD partition has NOT been successful.
option 1: redo your partition if failed again, go to panasonic low level partition, details , thread #27 bun |

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
I just tried some of Gamelofts 'try and by' games. Pretty awsome looking. Running smooth and no problems in that direction. Only thing is that they are made for multitouch (capacitive) screens, so they come on as, not so N900 friendly. I've tried Asphalt 5, Nova and Modern combat sandstorm. The first is ok to play and and the lagg of multitouch is not noticeable enough to make the playfullness any less but joyfull. The 2 latter ones on the other hand is not that joyfull and here i feel the lagg of multitouch and thats making the playing less fun and smooth as it could be :( Still awesome to have some full blown games to have fun with :)
|
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
I did the NOVA, and it is pretty impressive to me. I have NOT been able to get a copy of asphalt5, I googled those place, they sound fishy. I have NOT have that much fun with the N900 for several months. I am still playing with apps that I installed, but not even tried....

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
Try this link for Asphalt 5 ;)
http://gloft.co/ab3a8a5e They are very impressive i agree, just not made for resistive touch screens though... |

Your partition commands should be as follow: Shamelessly stealing from wiki, for a 16 G card ============================================== xterm sudo gainroot umount /dev/mmcblk1p1 sfdisk -uM /dev/mmcblk1 << EOF ,14100,C ,,L ,, ,, EOF =============================================== - double check your typing before hitting return. upper case and lower case are different. - after that, reboot, and do another cat /proc/partitions - start a thread on forum.nitdroid.com>installation help>n900, I will meet you there. I do NOT want this thread turned into another installation thread. Edit: I DO NOT dictate what people want to post here, feel free to post what you want to post. However, I plus others would be more than happy to help you regarding installation problem on the other forum, forum.nitdroid.com. I would very much, please, keep this thread as a thread to "open the capacity of n900" to a different OS, to make your n900 more capable, to make your n900 to do something which is otherwise NOT possible because Nokia has declared maemo5 EOL, to.... you got the picture. I would NOT respond to any installation questions post here, I would continue welcome, discussion, comments, critics, suggestions, rotten tomatoes, exclaimation, sigh or whatnots here, thanks for playing bun |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
does the size of the card make a differance to the speed of the os?
i have a 4gb |
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
ill bet the speed of the card is more important than the size of the card. engadget has an article today bout toshibas new class 10 which will be great for this when it comes out and the price is right

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
how is the battery life of running Nitdroid compared to running Maemo? I haven't installed it yet so i don't know. I'm interested in installing it though, has anyone got it to multi-boot so that u can switch between Nitdroid and Maemo anytime?? I have Backup Menu and it apparently has a multi-boot function, or that you can add one somehow but i currently have a bricked N900 and don't wanna brick it again after i reflash it.
|
Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
battery life is ok'ish not as good as maemo 5.
multi-boot works you have to reboot to change between OS if you like playing with your n900 i'd definitely install nitdroid lot of fun to be had playing |

Just ordered a 16Gb Kingston, as I noticed the phone function has gone from 'not working' to partially working, so its time to give this a go :-)

Re: Nitdroid today, auto-installer and 1st impression
I followed myself on post #1, and made 2 more nitdroids, one on kingston 4G, one on Kingston 8G, including the 1st one I made, kingston 4 G, I have 3 booting nitdroids. They all are rated class 4. All finished in 5 - 6 minutes. However, they performed very very very differently.
1st Kingston 4G, class 4; cannot tell if it is NOT running maemo! 2nd Kingston 4G, class 4; slow, but still manageble, but is not fun. 3rd Kingston 8G, class 4; painfully slow, to the point it is painful; you type a command, it waits for 2 -3 second, then it starts to crank.... All made with same procedure thread #1; have all same apps; All I can say, is not all class 4 are created equal.. Bottomline, despite all the 'other' posts, I just went through the same instructions, with pre-partitioned, all finished in less than 10 minutes; you need to have a fast SD to have fun with nitdroid. bun |

somebody asked about opera mini installation. Installation should be click at the .apk with file manager or a browser. Auto installation by nitdroid will NOT work.

Install panasonic low level formatting for SD card on your PC and do a low level formating to reclaim your SD, see this thread, #289. Post your results. bun |

For instance, I have a class 4 8gb and a class 2 4gb. The smaller class 2 card is far faster running nitdroid than the larger class 4 card. Testing speeds in windows (using a card reader or the n900 itself), I found the write speeds to be similar. However, the class 2 card was around 50% faster on the read speed than on the class 4 card. I saw this in multiple tests. I have posted results in a thread here and on forum.nitdroid.com. I suspect in most cases, it's the read speed that slows the system down (loading apps shouldn't involve much writing, but a lot of reading). Bun, if you would perhaps test your cards and see if read speed is faster on the cards that work better? |
