Will try to add the z80 clock parameters, was thinking to downgrade to v. 0.0.5-3 but will do the same to check... Just tried I can now open conf menu from the gui but looks like some small bug to define keys... Will test a game to check... Yes just tested, I have changed the keys on key def but they stayed the same as before, can we now have start key on Enter or any key we want? If not , not a big issue.

That's a lot of questions/remarks in one paragraph :)

About the parameters:
If you just install GnGeo using the application manager, all the parameters will be there. I don't know why people decide to choose to install some tar file they found elsewhere (besides historical reasons). Now GnGeo is only recommended in the GnGeo-gui deb install file, but perhaps I should have made it mandatory.

About the key definition:
I tested with that quite a lot lately and I have seen no issues. Are you very sure you press save in the main configuration screen after your key definition change? The message "your configuration has been saved successfully" should appear and then the change is saved. I know it is easy to forget to press save afterwards. The enter key definition is fixed a few releases ago.

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

Yes, I was thinking the same, pearphs I forgot to hit save but, don't remember, will try again and report back... Just tested, it is working, my mistake, had forgotten to press save. I know you are doing a lot of things, but could I ask a couple more features? a pause button and a save state. Also there's a bug on the points counting in KOF series, even if I don't do 'perfects' etc, my points are higher than usual, but it is related to gngeo of corse, have you seen this?

ade 2011-12-21 19:43

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

You are asking things that are beyond a "simple" graphical interface around gngeo.

But some things can be achieved :)

- You want a pause button?
Just use The Universe Bios, and the coin button acts as pause button during gameplay.

- Save state
Neo Geo and the emulator GnGeo do support save states. I am asked for load and save during games and I see data is saved in ".nv" files. But I never saw resume options. Never looked at it closer. Anyone else knows more about this? There is no "save this instant and resume here later" option afaik.

- Point couting in KOF
Never payed attention to it, but I can't fix that anyway...

Thanks for answering all my questions.

Iīll try to see about the KOF issues on the web.

Does the current version already suport Universe bios? A pause but would be very useful, like a small save state if we want to do something else and go back to game later. I tought would be in the next version. Thank you for the added futures, it is now much better than XGnGeo. Congratulation for the app !

Save state I think would be possible, as mame does, just my guess. ... Have just saw the U bios compatibility, will look for this.

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

didn't follow the last posts? It gives info about the universe bios and can be chosen in the last version.

gleydsonpr 2011-12-22 00:48

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

Yes I saw but forgot that. So whats in version ...6 ? Thank you.

I donīt see Uni bios option... I will test the effects feature, have never tested it.

ade 2011-12-22 00:59

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

see post 276. Updated the first page without mentioning the version, corrected that.

gleydsonpr 2011-12-22 07:54

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

Yes, Iīve saw that post before, but I think you said in version ...5 the uni bios is already supported, anyway I have just updated via app man, the message came out thirdy sw update, so I did, will test it right now.
Thank you again, still couldnīt fix my ps3 controller problem, will be awesome when I get it to work.

i have a problem; when i select the gngeo-gui icon, it doesnt start the app, and when i try to start it using x terminal give the error "segmentation fault" u_u

ade 2011-12-25 10:10

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

Let's do the regular checks from xterm:
Code:

dpkg --get-selections|egrep -i "pyside|python2.5"
And tell me the output

Start GnGeo-gui by typing
Code:

python /opt/gngeo-gui/gngeo-gui.py
And give me possible error messages

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

Hi Ade. I hope you've had a nice Christmas. I tried the a friend's usb joystick, marked joystick option, opened joy def mapped A B C and D buttons, coin and start, but when I tried to map up, down etc the gngeo-gui conf app become unresponsive, what can it be? ( only way to close was power button and 'end current task' . Universe bios I've tried already, thanks a lot, the pause worked, cheat options, game speed, all the options like in the console version, very interesting. If you know what is that in the usb joy conf of the directionals let me know. Thank you .

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

1 Attachment(s)
Thanks for testing.
As I wrote during the introduction of this feature, ones you choose to select a button by a button press, Gngeo-gui will wait indefinitely for that button press, making it unresponsive to other input.
Your reason could be it does not recognize your keypad buttons.
It should be a digital keypad, no analog joystick when you use the joystick config in Gngeo-gui.

Could you do a test for me? Unzip the attachment, put it on your phone, activate your usb joystick and run
Code:

python joymapper.py
Let me know what your up/down/left/right button give as a response.

Unfortunately as I said the usb joy is not mine, pearphs I will buy one soon or I might go on New Years to the city where my friend lives then I can test again. Will save the zip file for now. The usb joy had a digital and analogue directionals I tried to press both and nothing. Maybe that one was not compatible. If I have a chance will try with a different one. Thanks. BTW, where do I put the file? home\user\gngeo-gui?

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

No problem, ivgalvez will also test his usb joystick soon, so let's see if he finds anything.

You can place the joystick test file anywhere you like.

ivgalvez 2011-12-28 09:57

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

I'm still out of home. But I promise I will test it as soon as I can.

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

Again a very small update:
* Introduced some QMaemo5ValueButtons in the config screen
* Check for expected gngeo config variables

Happy new (maemo) year!

edit: Just a little too fast, forgot to remove a test variable
0.0.5-8 is going to the extra-devel and will fix it

I have been finally able to test my Hama USB arcade stick with GNGeo and works perfectly. However, I have not been.able to play with fullscreen, the emulator crashes. while with prior versions it seemed to be less frequent.

I assume you also tested the joystick configuration option from gngeo-gui? You did not mention that clearly.

Can't imagine the crashes of Gngeo has something to to with gngeo-gui itself. It are two seperate programs. Most of the time it does crash in fullscreen in my case. If you want to be more sure the two do not interfere, choose "exit after start game" from the config menu.
I have been looking for the gngeo source code that I could compile and hopefully find a cause, but did not find the code. The code I found was too old to support the compiler I used.

Yes, I used the GUI itself for configuring the buttons. Thanks.

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

Hello Ade. I tried the usb joy, the same one again, but with the joymapper file. When I pressed the directions , in the x-term was showing left pressed, then left released, so it was connected, but on the joy def( gngeo-gui) was the same, everytime I would try to define left, right up or down it got unresponsive. Have to try with a different usb joystick.

What kind of joystick are you using?
Can you post dmesg information from HEN when conneting the joystick?

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

I can't test it anymore, it's my friend's, he lives in another city, I'll go there again only by the end of next month. Can't remember the brand. I know that the joy was connected because I could use the A B C and D buttons, but not the directional, pearphs it was because it had also an analog dpad aswell, if I can't fix my ps3 controller I will buy a usb joy because is much cheaper, altough I prefer ps3 because much less battery drain I guess and wire less for comfortable playing with TV out.
What you mean by 'dmesg information from HEN' ? I connected the usb joy, choosed low speed vbus on etc... Then on gngeo-gui mapped the a b c & d buttons, but the directionals... You already know.

ade 2012-01-14 09:42

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

Is this the exact output you get from the test script when using the directional path?
Code:

You pressed left on the left joystick
You released the left joystick
You pressed right on the left joystick
You released the left joystick
You pressed down on the left joystick
You released the left joystick
You pressed up on the left joystick
You released the left joystick

If so, it is the same output as my usb joystick, which can be configured.

About the power consumption: I don't know if it makes a lot of difference. If I use the usb joystick for a longer period and have access to a power source, I charge my phone while using the usb joystick (see http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=602). But I agree it is more of a hassle and I also would prefer a ps3 controller.

What Ivgalvez is reffering to: once the usb is properly connected, dmesg can give you some hardware info. In my case as I have connected the usb joystick:

In x-terminal:
Code:

root
dmesg

Output:
Code:

...
...
[44292.520690] usbhid 1-1:1.0: usb_probe_interface

Yes, that is exactly what appeared when the usb j was connected with the test script on N900. About the dmsg I can't test at the moment as it is my friend's and I will go there again only next month. Thanks for the link, I will check it out because as I know while using usb hostmode battery info is not updated, altough I am having problems with h-e-n... Everytime I close this app N900 reboots.

ade 2012-01-17 08:11

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

I had the same problem with H-E-N a while ago, it was caused by conflicting battery modules. Do you have kernel power installed?

gleydsonpr 2012-01-22 22:01

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

I have v49 installed, but I need OC for ps emu gngeo (for more fps) mame etc. Only way is uninstalling PKv49? Maybe H-E-N then reinstall?

ade 2012-01-22 22:13

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

No reason to uninstall but it can easily be fixed if it is the same problem I had: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...postcount=2156

So make sure no bq27x00_battery line is in /etc/modules. If so, remove it, reboot and see if the problem is gone.

We will need more information...
As I understand correctly, GnGeo itself is the issue, not GnGeo-gui?

What are the errors you get when starting gngeo from the command prompt?

From the x-terminal:
Code:

/opt/gngeo/bin/gngeo /[path_to_your_rom]/[game.zip]

It is a textfile indeed. Then you must have the same symptoms with a different cause. Reinstalling is always an option.

Have just update gngeo-gui, will check the changes, still didn't fix my ps3 controller... Thanks for the update and keep doing your great work, have also saw your new gui for cps2, but will wait a while. Am not playing much cps2 games lately. BTW check my latest video of KOF98 with gngeo, I promiss do a better video once I got my ps3 j working and with TV out aswell. link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxX82aFaegE

Changes where just cosmetic. Will check your video later this day.

Edit: looked at the video. Your are gaming quite okay with just those tiny keyboard keys :D

Yes, I used gngeo-gui latest version, it was good the centralize games list, the values too. You should see me playing with ps3 controller, much better, I am a very good player of KOF from 96 till 2002, especially in arcade machines, if you visit my channel on YT and look for 'kof 2000 combos' video you will see what I can do, but that was on ps2, do you play KOF?

I can never remember those key combinations for special combo's :) That's why I prefer the Metal Slug series for example.

Have you thought about the possibility to define automatic combos?. You could capture or introduce in a dialog a sequence of movements (Down, DownRight, Right, Punch) and associate that to a single key.

It would be very useful for those who play with the keyboard (using a joystick, Sixaxis or Game Gripper is easier).

This option would also be very useful for your brand new cps2emu GUI.

gleydsonpr 2012-02-24 20:28

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

I agree with ivgalvez, that yould be great, I heard about that in other programs (PC), N900 is like a PC, so maybe is possible, but next week I get to fix my ps3 or get a usb joystick anyway. It is very difficult to do diagonals on N900, for basic combos in KOF it is ok. Anyway I love the emulators I have especially gngeo mame cps2 psx, most of them.

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

As this thread is stuck now I want to continue it, anyone know a kof99 kof2000 and kof2003 that will work with gngeo? The others : 96 97 98 2001 2002 and 2004 ( aka 2002 (k2k version) ) all work, but those above I never get them to work, 2003 starts but then crashes when finishes loading... The other 2 even if I have them on folder don't show up on games list, and acordding to the sources I got them they are neogeo roms, another question : neogeo roms are 40MB size limit right?

ade 2012-05-10 19:43

Re: [Announce] GnGeo-gui

A few KOF versions you mentioned I tried and could not get it working. I also tried to get Metal Slug 3 working (by combining some romsets), but it ended up in a segfault :(

I tried some of those games in the FBA emulator (which supports NeoGeo), but they crashed on me also.

How did you come up with a 40MB limit? I read the largest Neo Geo cartridge was King of Fighters 2003, at 716 megs (89.5 MB). Afaik gngeo is also not limited to 40MB, but I am not sure.

BTW: I now have my own gngeo version compiled, and I already added some extra key configurations, including savestate and loadstate. But I still have not fixed the crash issue in fullscreen after a few evenings trying. I hope to look at that further when spare time allows me that.
