@prankster Swipe in Qt/QML is not supported for N900. I implemented it using panning instead and it wasn't working properly. Currently you can try to swipe left/right/top/bottom and the arrows will show up.

Regarding tafseer, Are you aware of a website that alows downloading tafseer ? Find me one and I can try to see if I can use it.
Currently there are 2 Arabic tafseer texts available. Just pick Arabic and install them.

@ejasmudar I don't understand the problem that everybody is complaining about. Is it the font rendering ? Is it the spacing between lines ? Is it how the font looks ? Is it that the font doesn't look like the moshaf ?

Someone has to explain the problem to me so I can try to solve it.

i think they are complaining 2 points at a time..
i.e.

1. The Scheherazade Font dont look the same on N900, as it should be.. i.e. as seen on PC.

2. The font they are looking in Holy Quran App is not looking like Mushaf font..(aka KFGQPC) or the font used in Quran (Book)..

I think the new font which you will be implementing will solve this issue.. (this problem is not that critical at the moment, because it gets solved when you put the new font i.e. Amiri font ).

Msameer, what Transtech said is right. See the attached image for differences in how the word "Allah" (SWT) is rendered on the application (left) and how it is done according to the sample in this page, although both are Scheherazade.

is it just because the user hasn't installed the correct font (Scheherazade) in the device? that it renders the text with available Arabic font..

But in the sample, the other words, such as Kullu, mimma, ayyu, etc all have shaddah. So i think maybe omitting shaddah for ALLAH (SWT) maybe intentional?

Guys, hold on please.

I know what's wrong. The font I'm setting on the QML component is being ignored.

I still need to figure out why.

I created a minimal application that renders the basmala using the Scheherazade font.
It worked fine on my PC.
It ignored the font on my N900
It worked fine on N9

I was speaking to the same guy doing the Amiri font (Khaled Hosny) and he's suggesting it could be related to some old libraries used by Qt. Still trying to find a workaround...

Yeah i had the feeling that the font setting was being ignored... Somebody else also mentioned this before IIRC. Hopefully you can fix this soon. Thanks man.

I tried that and managed to get the font to work.

He also told me he fixed the shape of some characters in the font. I'm yet to get the new font from him and then make a new release.

The only fix is the font issue.

ok.. keep it as it is... but one more thing... spacing is needed after a surah finishes and new one starts on same page while translation is on or hidden.. ex: see surah 114 with translation on.. surah heading and translation of last ayat of surah 113

minor glitch:

Menu > Settings > Manage translations:

"Add translation" button overlaps with the list of already installed translations.

it can either flow down to the bottom of list..
or stick it to the mini-dockbar containing "back" / "return" arrow

however, the button is clickable. So there is no hinderance to add another translation

I don't have my spare device now. I can however move it to the menu.

I've been thinking about the "Reset settings" button in the settings page and the "Add translation" button in the translations list page.

Should they stay as they are now ?
Or should we move them to the menu ?
Or should we move them to the toolbar ?

Take care that separator is being put underneath all translations. It will affect all of them if we keep increasing its height...

That's how I managed to fix it quickly ;)

Alhamdulillah, this update is just great! It fixes all the major problems/features. IMO, all the remaining is just improvements on an already great application.
Somethings more to add to your todo, if you dont mind:
1. search feature to search in translations also.
2. maybe add an option to read out loud the translation with espeak
3. cosmetic improvements like maybe a calligraphic background, etc

Once again, Jazakallah! Like TransTech said, there is not a single other app in the repos with such frequent updates. Your dedication is admirable. May allah reward your hard work in this world and hereafter,

1) I'll try to do it. Problem is generating the search index will take a while but I have an idea already. Will add it to the TODO list.

2) Not all languages are supported. A better idea would be someone generating mp3 files using the existing translations and it could be added as a custom recitation. Maybe it can be done from the same app or it could be another app that reads the translation files and generates the needed mp3 files. I can help with that if needed.

3) Backgrounds will really interfere with reading and backgrounds for translations. That's the main issue.

@prankster Do you mean the colors ? Or do you want images for the background ?

@laith.m.y Only 2 Arabic tafseer texts are available. Choose Arabic from the list of languages and install them.

Different background colors and font colors is fine. It will just take a while because it needs to work fine with the theme.

Background images most likely will not be implemented. It will interfere with reading.

Different fonts ? Are you sure we want to use custom fonts ? You have seen the problems we have been through in order to get 1 font to work :(
