I asked Reggie 8 days ago about refreshing the moderators via email. Have not yet received a reply.

Your question is a good one. I just now posed it to Reggie via email and will report back here if/when I get a reply.

Spam extermination via air :) Though I can't wait for us to get some spam moderators to help you out with cleaning these spams. The more quicker they are cleared out and their IP's banned (as a temporary fix) the better.

Would it be worth it giving this addon a try?

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=96018

It prevents users with less than 15 messages from posting URLs or images within their messages. If it works fine, it seems to me that it is exactly what we need.

one more thing ...........

"no one should bump the spam thread"

as i have seen many people post in spam thread "reported as spam" or something similar to that and they bump the thread and spam comes back in the effect

So kindly don't post anything in spam thread but report only.

Thanks!

May i , please, disagree:
Since it being just posted minutes ago most of the time, it does not matter at all.

I agree. No need to post a reply to spam, it brings the thread back up and others watching for spam have to re-check it. Rate it One star, put --spam-- in the tags, report it and move on.

kevloral 2011-10-01 15:42

Re: [Request] Help fight spam together!

I think that some time ago it was agred that reporting it as spam and then posting a reply saying that it had been reported was the right thing to do. That way, the moderators are not flooded by several messages reporting the very same post:

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...4&postcount=18

Estel 2011-10-01 15:50

Re: [Request] Help fight spam together!

It was also mentioned, that instead of replying - which throw spamming thread to top of "activity", it's better to give such a thread lowest (star) rating. This way, other people reporting know that it was reported, just by looking at rating.

I still disagree with that. Today I had many duplicate reports in my inbox, and while I realize that adding a "reported" notification to a spam post bumps the thread, it can also make things easier on me by letting other members know they don't have to also report. But Reggie sets the standard and he disagrees with that, sooo...

Sorry, somehow I missed that one. Email was glitchy this morning and I may have accidentally deleted it.

Re: [Request] Help fight spam together!

please check out clarktek posts, this is the prove that a manual solution is not viable, against an advertising post maybe because at some point they might take it as more problem than benefit, but this last post are just an attack and they dont have any limit in number as just that. We need an automated solution to this problem.
Its not viable to report an infinite amount of post or users.

I have noticed that some of these spam threads have been tagged according to the event that they are advertising. I was under the assumption that you had to have 300 posts under your belt before you gain the ability to tag posts, so either the spammers are circumventing this prerequisite or an insider, a TMO regular, is responsible for these tags. If it's the former then I don't think anything needs to be done (as it's no big deal, once the post has been deleted it's gone) but if it's the latter, then surely that poster is the person behind at least some of the spamming.

They started rating their own spam threads to 5 stars... Something needs to be done real fast.

They have started rating own threads to 5 stars, just a few moments after discussion *here* about rating to 1 star instead of posting info about "reported" state? I'm not fan of conspiracy theories, but it's definitely interesting...

I noted that even before this discussion, last week or so, they had begun to rate their own threads after I had rated several of them as one star. Although it is obvious there is a lot of bot work going on I do not believe that this is just being set up, run and left alone. They are paying some attention to it.

My question is why bother? We are not that large of an audience that we should merit close attention. Also based upon many references in numerous posts we have a good many members who are two steps ahead of the bill collector. The sort of effort being expended would be more efficiently placed on a stock trading or precious metals trading forum.

I've been wondering if there was some insider activity, too...
