Hey guys,

I just stumbled upon this thread (didn’t read all 28 pages though!), and I think I may be able to help. I currently reside in Australia, but I was born and grew up in Malaysia. I’ve still got contacts in Malaysia that can possibly help if it’s going to be a bulk order.

I can possibly do that here in Australia as well, but seeing as Malaysia has the best prices (and I've got better contacts "Nokia distributor wise" there), it might be better for me to start there first.

How shall we do this? Gerbick – what kind of quantities are you looking at now? How will delivery be sorted? Maybe you can PM me for us to discuss further?

I see an opportunity for me to give back to the community now, so why not try? :)

Is there a better way to indicate interest or be added to the list other than just saying "please add me"?

I'm interested in a 64gb of any color, or maybe a 16gb if we can get the price down to a reasonable point.

Also I'm assuming that the 'branding' any carrier puts on can be blown away with a reflash of the clean OS?

You never know. About 3 months ago I entered security code to N950 for Track & Protect. Of course by the time I flashed the new FW some weeks ago, I had forgotten all about it. Upon activating Track & Protect again, the phone was asking me the security code once I booted. I had a hell of a time remembering what it was :).

So, it could be that the branding is also put into a protected space where flashing doesn't erase it. Doing it for the security code makes sense. Some carriers might feel it makes sense for their branding too :rolleyes:

I would think that it registered with a service using imei. That wouldn't change in a reflash.

I fully agree with this plan and count me in 100%. Only two points to mention...
1) I can't wait that long...lol, knowing so much people already have it in Europe, there's no way I'm waiting til end of November. Worse comes to worst, I'll bite for Expansys...
2) I think it would be a lot easier and simpler if the community purchase plan was *exclusively* for 64GB black. The demand is there, and it looks like a pain to check other colors and/or a very few 16gb ones.

Dubai has only pink and black, 16Gb, cyan is not available till next month. $644 plus $100 for shipping. That comes close to what expansys is selling for. At least expansys has a 15 day return policy.......so expansys is looking good right now.

True, that's possible, didn't think of that. But if it did that, then it wouldn't be much protected against stealing if the thief could just reflash the device.

Come to think of it, it's not anyway much of a protect against stealing. After all I reflashed without problems and I don't remember it asking me any security codes when I booted. Oh well.

No, but networks can block stolen devices by IMEI. However, although it's illegal in most places for obvious reasons, it is technically possible to alter IMEI on most/all devices if you have the technical resources.

Google tells me that Nokia use OTP (one-time programmable) memory for the IMEI - smart move, as it means a physical replacement of that chip is necessary to change the IMEI. As far as I can see, this is good news for everyone but phone thieves.

Back on-topic: I can't decide whether to try to source a 64GB from Europe, or to wait for Expansys North America to tell me they're ready to take all my money.

Anyone know what warranty a phone from expansys will have? My expectations are nice and low.

Mobicity has updated the one from there as submitted to warehouse with the 64gb Black still as a pre-purchase.

The one from Dubai is in the UK right now - he took it with him from Dubai to London, will send from there.

And the one from Mexico is still in a box, sitting on a desk, unable to be sent because Nokia MX is holding on tight to the very little supply they've received.

So far, Dubai seems to be the easiest of the dry runs I'm presently running. And no... not all three are for me. I had three people nearby contact me and have known me for a long time to run this experiment.

Malaysia, I have connections in Thailand but not Malaysia. The one in Thailand is a right lazy bastard, so he's not even looked yet. I've promised him an butt-whooping like no other.

Ordered Black 64Gb from Dubai - £460. Customs and Shipping should bring that to a nice £510.

My cousin runs a phone business across the UK and Pakistan and I have asked him to find out the availability of the N9. It is looking likely that he will be willing to ship some to the UK (where I can ship to the US) to sell for a small profit. Will keep everyone updated.

That's cos I havent even got mine yet. Only the city capital got the 64GB black, other states, we are still waiting. The 16GB are in the shops, 64GB no, I suspect 1st batch sold out

Gerbick is not the only crazy guy here.
This morning i get into my car and travel to Portugal (I live in Spain, near the frontier) and drive 180 km (about 110 miles), because their country will get the phone, but in the online store you can pre-order it but can't ship to other countries, so i thought what about pre-order it, and when avaliable, go to Portugal and pick the phone?

They tell me, have no clue about exact data, but in a range about 1-2 weeks.
Will be funny when all my orders start being avaliable (Today i order 2 phones in Portugal, one in Worten, another in The Phone House, aka Carphone Warehouse, to add to my previous pre-orders in Expansys Spain and Amazon Germany xD)

Thinking about pulling the trigger on the 16GB @ Mobicity AU cuz it says "Extended delivery- Located in a secondary warehouse and take and extra day or two on top of normal delivery timeframes. Once shipped tracking details will be emailed as per normal. ", did you get shipping confirmation yet ?

Guys, once one of my friends or myself get a machine in our hands and we've established a method to ensure that nobody will be left in the dark - including us, I might have to front a lot of the money or put you in direct contact with my connections/friends overseas - and go from there.

I'm collecting the list, will have to triple check since that information is in 3 different threads now (ugh) and will sort it out once I feel people will have a trusted, dependable way to get the N9.

I'm not out to get screwed or screw anybody over. So I'm waiting for confirmed delivery before I advise one way or the other.

Nokia MX did announce that the N9 won't be officially be sold there until November. But I know there's a few already in circulation down there ;)

Well, as showed in the Nokia Portugal online store, the Nokia N9 (all 3 colors, only 16Gb version) has a price of 649,90€. It's more expensive than Amazon.de and Expansys Spain, but I don't care as long as i get it sooner than other ways.

Also, all my pre-orders are for the cyan version (3 orders for 16Gb, 1 for 64Gb). When I get mine, may be we can told for sending the device for people from the forum. ...or cancelling the other orders...


... or simply keep for me all four N9s :D

I got my phone from Dubai , try to send it with FedEx priority which is 390 dirhams , and mark it as a gift and I asked my brother to declare 150 bucks ! lol , still , i got charged 30 bucks for the duties in Canada . If you want to go through FedEx from Dubai , you have to use your friends visa card since they don't accept cash anymore !!!

Declaring low value wouldn't be a great idea because if it gets lost that would be the amount you get in return :(

and if you want to send it through DHL , they can't send electronics outside of Dubai , which doesn't make sense at all ! If you have any more questions , let me know :D

Thanks SR90! It looks like gift values above 100$ will incur customs tax in the USA. Also, Fedex will only refund 100$ (for lost packages), regardless of the value of the package, even if you buy insurance. It's sounds ridiculous, but from what I read on the Fedex site it's true. If you do declare a lower value, and are very unlucky, you might run into issues with customs if they find out your shipment is worth a lot more, and they'll charge you customs on the full value.

Looks like the 64GB from Dubai will end up costing me (2599 AED)710$ + 80$(300 AED non-priority Fedex) = 790$. If I get charged customs, it'll be even more. Ouch.

Some of these prices are pretty good i'd like to get a black 16gb if possible altough i'd settle for cyan ;). Much better than NZ's pricing and by the looks of it they're already out of stock everywhere.
