It's the rygel opensource DLNA server under the hood.
You have options for sharing videos, music, and pictures, and have the option to display the control panel launcher in the status bar menu. That's all to it.

It's just an easy means to display your media on a bigger screen.

Ok, thank you for this info!

I was really hoping to be able to browse my media collection in the Stock Movie Player or also use my N9 once as a Digital Media Controller to control music streaming in my living room from the sofa!

At least it is stated on the rygel project site:

I imagine it's all there under the hood, but that it would require some GUI's/integration.
Not necessarily an easy undertaking, but no doubt there's a person or two with the skills here.

the DMC feature sounds awesome (if wikipedia is right about it). I hope nokia ported/implemented everything from rygel but decided to make gui for server part only.

I searched a bit and found this info:
The original developer of Harmattan DLNA seems to be the guy running this blog (http://jensge.org/)

It seems that (Please can anyone with 1.2 confirm this) GUPnP is shipped with the N9? Here I found the following info on http://harmattan-dev.nokia.com

For the 1st set of questions....
The underlying daemon/s may in-fact already be covered by the GUI as much as possible.

I found a bug: If you swipe down a screen to close an app, it will fade out (new feature of 1.2) to show you that the app is closing. But when you swipe it quickly back to the top (when the window is already swiped away) it will minimize instead of closing it :p

Edit: I uploaded a video showing how to preform the bug :p

I don't see it as a Bug, why would U Swipe back up if your decision was to close the App, unless U decided not to close it anymore, which works well too as the App remains open!

PR 1.2 increases the font size. You cannot control it via GUI means, but the default fonts are a bit bigger than on PR 1.1.
This is especially good for the dialogs where two buttons are placed close together.

Could hardly find the post (3ys) you refer to.

On N9 (N950 not powered up) it is just clicking on date and then click the top where written the month/year (e.g. 'December 1990'). Then you can scroll/flip.

- for birthdays range is 1900 - 2040
- for calendar range is 1960 - 2040

I do not know (not using the unreliable contacts/messages/calendar tracker), but you might try yourself.
Set up a calendar entry and check with sqlite3 the database
sqlite3 .calendar/db
.schema will reveal you the databas etables
date/time entries are stored in integer (so unix time)

But I guss the app itself limits the dates...
