No, it's not very straightforward. In that video the question was asked how do you handle when there are more applications. And he answered that they want to show them all on the same page. Nowhere did he say that only 4 could be visible.

I'm sorry that I don't have the time to dig up, and watch again all the videos, that I've viewed these past days.

But think for a minute... multitasking has been one of the key advantages Jolla has been touting for their new OS. Does it make any sense that only 4 would be shown? Frankly, it would be idiotic. I'm willing to go on record claiming they're not idiots.

So we'll see a bit later ;).

I do not want to be the party killer. I only try to get all info here :). I try to update the firs page very often, so you can watch all videos there

There we go! 5 Apps running! I am sorry the image is low res but that's the best I can do. In the picture you can see there are 5 apps open and there is space for 4 more!(I highlighted open apps in RED and open spaces in GREEN)

The picture was taken from the SLUSH 2012: Sailfish UI presentation. Specific point is : 14:32

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

I find it too exhausting to prove my point that Sailfish currently can run more than 4 apps on the multitasking pane, it was already made clear in the Slush UI demo video, a little effort from the curious ones to view the video would be more than enough to clear things up

Question 0:48-0:50 "How many apps are you able to run at the same time"?

Answer 0:51-0:55 "It's optimized for 9 apps at the moment because of the way UI is."

EDIT: mariusmssj's picture two post above mine pretty much shows the "optimized for 9 apps" bit. Room for 9 apps in one view. Propably have to scroll to see more open apps.

I would love to buy their first phone.I just want an affordable price :)

I love their startup where everybody got on the stage,so honest and open.

Around 200 EUR would be great with low end specs and no keyboard. 500 Euro for a 5" screen with keyboard would be event better. Add a new HD display(1080p) and and make it 600 Euro and we have a deal.

You swipe on the titlebar only then. Also, about multitasking they said they have minimized duplicate app windows. For example you won't have seperate messaging threads in seperate windows, so that minimizes the number of windows needed to be open compared to the N9.

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

qwazix, I want your opinion on this.
It's has to do with appearance.

Anyways, here goes:

Wouldn't be better if ,by swipping an app , the app would be gradually fading out until it's completely gone?

Harmattan has the apps moving away from the screen when swiped. Which is cool. And we all know the effect belongs to Nokia.

Instead of Sailfish just vanishing the app ,imediately, when swiping .. it could (as I said) gradually fading the app. The more the user swipes the app, the more it fades out.

I hope you get me, my english got rusty

*the thing is, the swipe effect on Sailfish, reminds me of Nemo OS.
Which is not that good in this department. eye candy I mean.

*I overused the word "app", I know.

qwazix 2012-11-24 22:53

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

@hellasisgreece, it actually vanishes gradually. Maybe in the videos they did it too fast (I didn't watch the videos).

It starts to vanish and the place where it will end up is an empty placeholder until the animation is finished so that you will know where the app will go.

As far as I know the nemo swipe animation is not final either.

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

It does? really?
I must say I have to watch the videos again , more carefully this time.

Thanks duder!

Re: Jolla Sailfish Is stunning! Now on video!

So, i guess, n9s swipe ui is patented thats why they cannot do horizontal swiping to get to running apps view or launcher view. But then, horizontal swipes can take to another page of launcher icons or to additional pages of a running apps, like android or any other ui. If it's not also patented.

Or could launcher and "minimized" apps page be altogether combined, that would be even better, imho. Apps launcher icon (or tile) can behave as live preview and be of double size when app is running but minimized, for example. That would be coolio!

It's probably the first and so far, only, major market where they've managed to sign up a distributor. It's all very well having a critically acclaimed product but if nobody is selling it then it's not going to bring in the money (808 Pureview, N9?)

If it is done with a plan and some kind of vision for the future... it could work.
We should all want a healthy Nokia of the good old days taking Jolla under its wings.

It won't happen though. But I'm just saying.

China is the world largest smartphone marke and is growing a lot faster than Europe or USA. So you could ask why would some smartphone company not concentrate on China?
In 2-4 years doing great in Chinese smartphone market will alone be enough for any phone manufacturer. China Mobile alone has 654 million subs.

People over at Jolla have likely created ok connections on the Chinese market at their time on Nokia and can utilize it now in Jolla.
As kureyon mentioned they getting largest distributor in China to jump in is testament to that.

Yep, the future (present I might say) is China.

Next will be the African nations, Brasil, India, etc

You could use the right-side peek feature to look at the notifications.

This and many other improvements (moving all menus into gestures) are very welcome additions, IMO.

What you wlll do with FullHD screen in the phone :D?? and i think 5" is more like a tablet, not a phone... 4" +/-0.1" is good and big battery!

I think, fist model not comes with hw keyboard, but 2nd will? Hope so.

Don't have one of those Android phones with 1080p screens next to me, so I can't follow your advice, but full HD for 4-5 inch screen is madness.

No its not. Not alone. When it comes to visibility is great. But it must be combined with a great solution of power management.

All highend phones 2013 must have a screen like that.

And unless it doesn't have a full HD screen, that phone is immediately considered dinosaur, correct? It may have a dslr sensor or shoot flying donkeys as a habit, but the 720p resolution would be "meh."

Crap, so there's "yet another" Sailfish(Jolla) thread!?
No wonder the two original ones (one off-topic, the other for more in-depth analysis) have been quieter than expected!
I wonder how many others are spread all over the the place >.>
I'll ask the mods to migrate it to the original off-topic thread (or it to this).

Should just stick to two generic ones; one off-topic, anythings goes*, & the other for more structured/considered input (as outlined in it's 1st few pages).

*that could be this thread or the one I'm linking.

Are you on linux and using an Nvidia graphics card? If so I vaguely remember that it's something about a vdaup issue between flash and Nvidia. I remember googling it and it was like a 2 step thing I typed into terminal to fix it but then some later Nvidia driver update changelog seemed to mention something about it.

Great. You have the option to do so. I don't think jolla can afford a highend screen anyway, so the Jolla phone could be dev/fun phone behind your high tech gear. First gen 1080 might have the same battery life as n9 or Jolla if the go mid range.

Yes, but I'm buying dinosaurs often, they are much cheaper. The only concern I have is if a dinosaur is in the price range of the highend top of the line devices. 720p is enough for Jolla... If they can afford that.

That's cool, I don't mean to disrespect your idea/intent for starting this thread, it just makes sense to consolidate discussion to one or two threads.
But, because it's unlikely that mods will actively consolidate every(most) Sailfish/Jolla thread as it pops-up, carry-on. ;)

I looked at all the range of NovaThor CPU's (L9540, U9500, L8540, U8540) all seem to be dual-cores. I think it's possible to speculate that Jolla's phone will possibly be a dual-core
