Re: SailfishOS Update10 discussions

has anybody noticed the coolest Sailfish feature / bug ever?

when you lock your screen while launching an app (while this new circle stuff is spinning) and unlock it afterwards (no matter if via double-tap on screen or power-button) you go back directly to this app.

and that's not the end by far: when you have glance screen (or whatever the correct name is) enabled, it will show you live screen, when you take it out of your pocket (aka uncover the sensor).

when you unlock the screen and want to do something in this and lock it again, it will still show up directly via double-tap or powerbutton!

and still, this is not then end!
you can switch to other apps and use them, after that, just go to the multitasking view and click your "live-app" again and lock the screen while it's going active and it will have the same behavior again!

sorry, it's not so easy to explain, but this is really one of the best features / bugs ever!!

to test it, just lock your screen while launching the clock app.
then unlock it and you will go directly to the clock app again. start the stopwatch and lock it again and put it in your pocket...
take it out and see the live time of the stopwatch :)
unlock it and switch to other apps if you want, then after that go to the multitasking view and click the clock app again directly followed by a click on the power-button (really fast) and you can access it the same way again!

this is really like finding some hidden treasure in a video game :D

edit: i think, this has nothing to do with the new update, i had similar behaviors before, but i just could not reproduce them reliably, now i just found out, how to do it :) i guess this has been around since version 0.x and just nobody noticed...

I must say that the phone is really much snapier, browser works 100x better and android support improved. well done!

post a vid, can go back to the launching app after unlock, but unsure of the rest

edit: oh wow just got it, wait for hover/glance to turn on, the last window will light up, pretty cool

haha, this is awesome, for tracking single app progress or updates, i hope this is a feature, great find!

yeah, i know it's a bit hard to explain, but as i said: this is one of the best "bug / feature" things ever :)

of course, it has become way cooler with this "take it out of your pocket"-thingy :)

Anyone noticed a nice fade effect when you turn the browser from portrait to landscape? I am wondering if it was there before.

Yeah, it is always good to make application startup as fast as possible but in case it is not (yet/easily ?) doable, any "I'm doing something!" feedback is better than no feedback.

Also note that even if an application starts instantly most times, it might still need the startup-feedback from time to time if the start happens to collide with a period of resource starvation (swapping, other app launching, Tracker doing its thing on fresh files, a running application doing some heavy processing, etc.).

Re: SailfishOS Update10 discussions

I am unable to update as my Jolla says that "Jolla account needed : Go to Settings | Accounts and create an account".

I already have a Jolla account and have been updating my Jolla regularly.

When I go to Settings | Accounts, the settings app crashes.

And when I try to go to developer mode, it crashes again!

Any idea why this is happenning?

Also I had an account for gmail, facebook and twitter, for which I was getting updates, now when I swipe from down for notifications, I see none and my email client wont open either.

HELP!!! ANYONE!!! PLEASE!!!

(I have already tried restarting my phone, taking my battery out for ten min and putting it back!)

Update 10 has made a huge difference to my phone performance. I was experiencing really bad slowness and pauses while using u9. I tried very hard to keep it as my main phone.

Now after few hours of update 10 usage, I can tell you it feels so smotth and responsive.

Thank you Sailors!!!

Only thing I miss is the Eventview Control Center Patch. Wish Jolla will make it a default.

If you cannot get to console, then it is fairly difficult to fix it. (If you could, you could try "zypper ref; zypper up")

Can you back up your device? (and be sure to move the backups off to an external computer!)
If so, then you might want to try to factory reset it back to the version it came to you with, and then re-download updates.

But the nice thing is, that even as it was put on hold, those that did get the notification are still able to download & install it, there are just no new people accepted in.
Sorry Dave, you're banned from this party :p:p:p

Hint: You might be able to get it though, by manually setting your SSU release to 1.1.1.26 and refreshing updates :)

Re: SailfishOS Update10 discussions

Maybe they published it intentionally knowing that its not ready, so a small amount of people can test it, and made up this cover-up-story that "oops, we found a bug and we'll have to put it on hold, but a hotfix is coming." Then time goes by and info comes "Sorry, the bug is bigger than we thought, we'll have to work on this so we ask U to wait to january, thanks" :D

#conspiracyTheoryAnyone?!?

:p

I updated all three last night. Update went smoothly. All phones had Uitukka before. This is great. Now I just wait for those hot fixes. The ability to silence alarm by turning the phone's display down is great. I really love that on my N900, so Jolla is one step closer in replacing it. I just hope N900 keeps up until TOHKBD arrives.

Re: SailfishOS Update10 discussions

The updated browser feels really good! :)

Now there's no more zoom&pan to be able to reliably hit links, it works really accurately.
Overall the browser also feels snappier, but that could just be placebo effect?
Still no copy&paste though. Wonder why as it is so simple fix?

That would be the "don't clear your clipboard!" bug:

https://together.jolla.com/question/...-vaarainjarvi/

19.12.2014 Update: We are reverting the alphanumeric lock code feature from the release and are preparing to roll out the hotfix during today.

A reminder to our users who have not updated to this release yet:
1. please take a backup of your phone content and copy it to SD card
2. clean up your phone from unnecessary data (old backups, downloaded content etc) before attempting to upgrade the software. This is to ensure that the software update has enough diskspace to complete its operation.

Unfortunately, those who have already locked out from their phone will need to contact Care. Depending on the situation, they may be able to help you out without needing a visit to the service centre.

Our apologies for the inconvenience.

also, Interesting from, 1,5gb to 2gb

a BTRFS balance before the update starts to run would help avoiding bricked devices.

Not sure how is the 'required disk space' calculated, but at least starting from Uitukka, the *downloaded* packages were about 288 MB.

The way I understand the issue you will be fine as long you dont use the phone lock feature.

Btw, awesome troll job on Jollas part, they introduce the phone lock feature that works a bit to well:D

Update: Hotfix release 1.1.1.27 now available for first ones and update9 opt-in users

Existing update10 users, if you have enabled alphanumeric lock code in settings, consider switching it back to numeric, otherwise after accepting the hotfix you will have to stay with alphanumeric mode until Update 11.

The rest of our users will receive 1.1.1.27 directly on Monday without the alphanumeric lock code feature.
So despite being one of the first ones (still on 1. 0 .8. 21) I did not get the update yesterday and by the looks of it will not get it today, so monday it is.

This here is one of the reasons why I did not support, Jollas tablet campaign. Very unprofessional and disapointing.

well. the good thing is that we can hang out in this thread an pretend that we are angry, dissspointed an very cool since was ignored the first time , now a second time.

btw. how could this affect your decision about the jPad when that campaign ended before this upgrade\downgrade?

btw it could be worse...you could have been one of thr guys locked out of your own phone.
