Re: SailfishOS Update11 discussions
For whatever is worth, this approach is similar to how it is handled on the Linux desktop-- for KDE at least-- apart from third party applications, icons are handles as as separate package.
EDIT: I wanted to reply to W00t: latest comment... And by the way, this allows for easier theming anyway. Custom icon packages have to include icons for the common applications as well... and the desktop standard should handle fallback to a default "hicolor" theme if there is no custom icon in the theme. |
Re: SailfishOS Update11 discussions
Maybe this is already possible but overriding the icons (global or local) with those supplied in an ambiance would be nice.
Also, I like the application settings being separate to the application UI. The problem is application developers can't access settings currently like that and there are also ports from other platforms where they've kept the old way of doing it. This will presumably work itself out mostly when Jolla get around to it. edit: to stay on topic, nice to see buteo sync fixes :D |

Update went fine, but got a crash/reboot when I opened browser after update. No glitches after that, though.

Re: SailfishOS Update11 discussions
This update feels a lot better ... but they still haven't fixed one of the simplest and most necessary things ..... browser based wifi login.

Re: SailfishOS Update11 discussions
Love the new browser. Would like to suggest a small change to the icon for downloaded files. It's the same as enable 3G. Please change that or make sure that button enable disable 3G :)

eek- running an Android app (the Assassin's Creed Unity Companion app) after applying update 11 drained 50% battery in a little over 20 mins ...
Anyone else seeing poor Alien Dalvik power consumption with U11? |

Re: SailfishOS Update11 discussions
For about 15 minutes I thought they'd finally got CalDAV working. It now shows my four calendars from my account, you can add an event which then appears on my Mac and Android phone and tablet on the next sync but, the event then disappears from my Jolla.
Jolla -> drawer again. |
Re: SailfishOS Update11 discussions
Also, my Jolla has killed my SDXC card. It's gone read only. I can't even reformat it.

Jolla browser seems to be safe from the FREAK attack (test site https://freakattack.com) vulnerability but both Webcat and Web Pirate are not.

Re: SailfishOS Update11 discussions
Battery drain in this update is ridiculous, phone is borderline unusable while it drains 10% an hour with Dalvik off in standby.

Anyways, it has become quite bad - when I got 30% of battery, I can be almost sure the battery will run out during the 25mins way home. |
Re: SailfishOS Update11 discussions
I don't experience the battery drain with U11. But I have the browser closed when not in use. I noticed that the browser drains even when not active while displaying webpages with active content.

I cannot confirm, battery consumtion got even better with U11.

And my battery is at 95% of original capacity, so it's not that. I think keeping the browser open does effect it hugely, but I don't understand why now, as it didn't before. Even having MeeCast open (for the tile) drains it more than it used to. A result of the new OOM handling / OS not being allowed to kill processes as it did before? |

I have not noticed any difference in battery drain myself. It has always lasted about a day of my average use (no calls or texts, no 3G, background email check every 30 minutes, some browsing in the evening) - or up to three days if left alone and not used at all. I do not use the default browser though. There are more usable alternatives. U11 with its icons for bookmarks was the final nail in the coffin. |

Re: SailfishOS Update11 discussions
My Jolla hardly goes below 50% battery in one day.
On a typical work day in the office, I have it lying on the desk idle most of the time, but with browser, e-mail apps, securefishnet (OpenVPN connection) and often one or two more apps open, just checking from time to time, and making a few phonecalls (maybe 30min in total). This is in an area with really bad mobile signal (I have to place my phone - any phone, not just the jolla - on the right spot on my desk to get any signal at all) but using work wifi. I usually have around 70% battery left after 10-11hours. Of course battery drains faster when I actively use the phone - browsing on "heavy" sites and watching videos makes battery drain visible. But I can't complain about battery life at all. |
