Sail 2.0 actually give us a better OS? I thought they basically just moved X over here and Y over there...some adjustments for JPad 1.

So far I haven't seen any real improvements.

Why don't just keep it on the device?!

And don't tell me that they initiated talks witch suckerberg... We all are aware that Jolla is to small and won't achieve anything in this regard. They also told us in 2013 that they are talking to suckerberg/facebook to give us the long awated facebook feeds...

There is/was somekind of external facebook sync program for N900, something like that might work untill 30.4.2015.

Am I the only one on the opt-in programme who has NOT received the update yet? I came home after three days with a very sporadic internet connection to find this thread bursting with news but my phone keeps insisting that it is up to date with 1.1.2.16. That also means that anyone expecting updates to my patches will have to wait just a little bit longer.

Re: sailfishOS Upgrade12 discussions

afaik u13 opt-in rollout have been delayed because many users have bricked their devices because of failed upgrade and lack of skills for repairing it.

From the release notes:
Quote:

Update: About 0.8% of the devices have statefs missing after the upgrade, which -- unless developer mode is already installed -- can only be fixed by factory reset. We're putting the rollout on hold until at least Monday to investigate.

Because [an answer that you yourself have heard at least dozen times, but simply choose to ignore it, because trolling with such a controversial topic might spark up some pointless discussion and - as you say - keep threads alive].

I think you will find the answer on your 3G tablet.

Back to the topic:
Is it just me, or is the new swipe animation quite annoying? Before this upgrade, I could quickly glance at the time, but now I must drag from the side to see some moving line, before the screen finally fades away and I can see time and other apps.
[RANT, sorry about it :)]Thanks a lot to all the people that demanded N9-like animation, because eye-candy is apparently more important than functionality.[/RANT]

I do like new swipe animation. I dont know how you do it. But i dont see any difference on speed of glancing clock.

Its lot better now, becouse it gives very definitive visual feedback on when you still keep app in foreground and when it gets to background.

You need to "swipe" only 10% to see the clock well, and another 10% to full 20% of screen width to get the line between "change to background" and when you can see the clock fully.

Same here. Didn't mention it before as I somehow assumed this is what people wanted...
Just like you, I prefered the old 'effect' as it was more practical.

The fading of the line is not even smooth, so there goes the eye candy.
Looks bad, less functionality - yay!

It may be useful to state what exactly are you after. From the information provided, it is plausible that all that's happened is a problem with dependencies. Not sure what else you need in terms of explanation.

Green - all clear. It's a go. Blue sky...
Yellow - issues and working on it. Estimated to be fixed within a week.
Red - Dead end. Unknown issues and don't know when Rollin again.

I'm wondering: since we were able to upgrade to 1.1.24 and .28 using ssu re despite it not being officially r3ecommended and Jolla did show us 2.0 on the Jolla Phone at MWC 2015, is there some way to upgrade to whatever 2.0 build they're on right now? Note that I'm *not* asking for instructions per se as I think Jolla might not be too happy about that (but if they don't mind, then please give instructions :D), just curious if it would be possible at all right now :)

According to a post by a sailor (don't remember where I read it) the "inofficial" updates are possible because of Jolla testing the update procedure using the actual live infrastructure, to have a test exactly like the end user would see it. This means the updates are available on their servers a short period before they get rolled out officially.
Since I don't think that SFOS 2.0 is at a stage where they test live rollout already, I don't think there is any way for "normal" folks to get it at the moment.

Re: sailfishOS Upgrade12 discussions

The update broke landscape for some apps. Webcat, File Browser and quite possibly a few others. When in ladscape in those apps, edge swipes are interpreted as if the device was in portrait. A swipe from the left edge of the screen is interpreted as a swipe from the top and closes the app, right edge as bottom (opens notifications), top and bottom swipes as left and right to go back to home screen.

It is not all the apps, only some of them. So in theory they could blame those apps. But when the only thing that has changed is the OS, then I am more inclined to blame the OS.

but it means there is no problem in update, also described behaviour is not possible at all. it rotates all or it doesn't rotates. it can't rotate application, but doesn't rotate gestures.

Well, it does. That's why I call it broken. At first I though they just removed landscape gestures altogether in advance of the tablet, because it broke all my most commonly used applications. But tnen I noticed that it broke only some of them. Weird...

EDIT
The issue is 100% reproducible. Open e.g. File Browser, turn the phone to landscape, with the USB port on the left and LED indicator on the right. Swipe from the left edge. File Browser closes.

I suspected for a while that my screen orientation has something to do with it. I have it set to Landscape. But I changed it back to Dynamic and the issue persists.

Non-reproducible here. I tried it just like you described, with the File Browser and all gestures in all orientations work as they should (top swipe closes app etc.). I am on 1.1.4.x and this is the first time I'm hearing about such issue.

I know that my experience doesn't prove anything, but I'd think it may be something you changed earlier and this upgrade exposed it. I'm on a quite clean system.

It's just as invalid to assume that it's just his device that has a problem, as it would be if he assumed that everyone's device was broken. If he applied the update and got this behaviour, then there is a problem in the update. Whether than may be local to him, and fixable in just his case, or apply to more people and require a more mature fix, is for us to establish. This is why saying 'it works for me' isn't helpful at all.

EDIT: not reproducable here. I switched my orientation to landscape and back and File Browser still operated correctly. What did you have that set to when you upgraded?

robnas 2015-04-28 08:11

Re: sailfishOS Upgrade12 discussions

I'd like to see landscape possibilities for the app-menu. With Maemo it was possible to have a portrait/landscape mode for the desktop. That was superb. You could even have a completely different lay-out in both ways.

I think widget on the desktop/appmenu would be nice. Like a weatherapp that's changing it's icon in degrees.

Last but not least: useragent-possibilities on the browser. That's one of the first things I check on a browser: do I only get crippled website-versions or will it be the full monty?

Aha! Got it! For a moment I almost had a moment of relief as I also could not reproduce it, seemingly out of the blue. So I made a few experiments and yes, it IS still 100% reproducible.

The key is STARTING the app in landscape.

Turn your phone to landscape: speaker and USB port on the left, mic and LED on the right, buttons on the top. Yes, all launcher icons are sideways because the damn thing is not competent enough to rotate them. Now start File Browser. Swipe from the left edge. Tada!

I wouldn't say that... Even though all my apps are working correctly as well, I can't remember there was any guideline how to correctly implement orientation switching.

So yes, it is up to developers to fix it, but it is not their fault some method stopped working (without any warning).

EDIT: But I also wouldn't call it a 'bug'.
