Good article, just wish you picked a few choice quotes or something as a summary or teaser to it. :)

interesting article about the technology branch in general...
Viewpoint: Over-the-top technologies drive success
until ½ a dozen years ago, the mobile phone was nice to have but it wasn't the killer feature, yet.
what actually made the mobile phone a commodity (to the detriment of NOKIA's traditional business) is... the mobile phones' ease of use and omnipresence (the current "over the top" thing...).
oddly 'nough, NOKIA was at the fore-front of that new wave with Maemo, but completely missed the chance to realize it :(
maybe 'cuz they were too confident that Symbian was (still) the standard of all things?
even though others have meanwhile occupied the market, it doesn't seem to be carved in stone yet
maybe a chance still for Maemo

(note: the reflections in the posts are mine; the article is about the technology branch in general)

Aaaand sitting RIGHT NEXT to the article you cited:
Samsung overtakes Nokia in mobile phone shipments
"Samsung Electronics has overtaken Nokia to become the world's largest maker of mobile phones, according to research firm Strategy Analytics.
Nokia took the top spot in 1998 from Motorola, but in the first quarter of 2012 Samsung shipped 93m phones compared to almost 83m by Nokia.
Samsung also reported its highest quarterly profit since 2008.
Net profit was 5.05tn won ($4.5bn; £2.8bn) in the quarter ending 31 March, up 81% from 2.78tn won last year.
Samsung is also the world's biggest TV and flat screen maker."

Meanwhile, even while Nokia HAD been the biggest cell phone maker, they didn't diversify enough to even at LEAST claim to also be the biggest boots maker, much less display technologies like televisions. heh Samsung is just doing a LOT of things right.

Apparently, the Tech News Today podcast covered this as well:

Nokia, get rid of Elop already and get a SUCCESSFUL new CEO. Do it NOW. It's not too late yet.

you may say what you want about m@ke$$h!t.
m0##0nic @$$O and all the rest
still, between the LG misadventure over the last three years, very similar to the fluke with NOKIA in the past year +, Bllamer seemed to have learned something
maybe he really put Flop as a drone @ NOKIA's helm to make sure... they'll stay on course
:(

not that he minded getting ride of the incompetent idiot @ m$ in the 1st place :D

let's see if i get this right...
LG is only the fifth / 5th largest mobile phone manufacturer worldwide (1Q12) with 13.7 million units; a year earlier, they were 3rd largest (before Apple & ZTE) with 24.5 millions units.
in Feb 2009, LG signed the same kind of agreement with m@ke$$h!t then NOKIA two years later according to which there were supposed to have 50 m$ devices this year.
i guess, they simply were too lazy to manufacture all those trillions of devices that would have flown off the shelves... had they only been there?
only in terms of smart phones, NOKIA experience nearly the same shift (24.2 => 11.9)
too bad they didn't have any m$ devices a year early, huh?

what could we blame LG & NOKIA for?
having put their eggs in the same basket?
luckily for LG, they didn't have a m0##0n as CEO who sabotaged the brand for the sake of it
