Thanks. English is my first, second and only language here at TMO. Why Reveal my nationality? That would be dangerous and unnecessary.

TMO is a great place to learn the language. Right?

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

I didn't ask your nationality; at times I have to remind myself that a lot of posters here, despite their proficiency are not native English speakers. So certain sayings that Americans or British folks may use just do not translate well. Effective communication happens when you know with whom you're addressing.

TMO as a place to learn English? I'd say there's better places. But it's not the worst place.

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

I think strange words are super. Keep em coming. Also I think TMO is a great place to learn English because most users are very tolerant when it comes to words and Grammer. In fact, I think it would be healthy for the community if the same tolerance was facing other mobile OS as well. Not saying they should be supported but rather accepted.

Who, whom... Wrooooooooom...

Jolla won "Millennium Distinction"-award. Note that this is not the big Millenium Prize, but "granted to recipients who have showed prowess in the same fields as last year’s Technology Prize winners". This is the first time I've even heard about this smalle prize.

Linus Torvalds won the real prize last year, and Jolla has apparently shown prowess in the same area.

But, you already answered this question (not revealing your nationality though), and you did other things that even place you somewhere. Also, you admitted to having Android phones... do you really care about privacy? :-)

Just kidding, of course, although some of the stuff above may or may not be true. Agree with your language == OS tolerance comment though.

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

It place me somewhere. The question is where?

Information and incorrect information. But network operators also collect info. I have no doubt most of us can easily be tracked down. With or without jolla, with or without Android.

A simple Sim card save send more than enough info.

I highly recommend reading/watching Death Note to increase paranoia :-)

Manga/Anime - one of the topics is about zeoring in somebody. There has been some mathematical analysis done using Death Note as an example and everything.

Anyway, back to Jolla - has anybody noticed that in the end the screen is "only" 5 points multitouch?

jalyst 2013-10-24 08:18

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

Yep that was pointed out some time ago, went back to 5 not long after the more detailed specs were released.

Akkumaru 2013-10-24 09:20

It's 5 point because the phone is specifically used one-handed :P

Yeah, I saw that, but there was still a discrepancy between the mobile web site and the desktop one. Maybe this was another caching issue? Or rather, failure to distribute content properly - you gotta love the cloud and CDN's and all that.

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

The screen is too small .i think 2 is enough really.

Thx. Love updates even if I don't need it at the moment.

Is it one change? How often do the push updates?

Not sure - I suppose you'd know if you used the SDK as this update seems to be applied automagically, as opposed to Jolla's SDK release.

My N9 wont charging/start any more. What can i do? When I hold start button a white lights and it vibrates ones. Screen is black. Tried different cables...i might need a jolla after all.

It's my first phone ever that is broken, and doing so while resting in my pocket. Bad quality Nokia!

Ideas appreciated.

I've used it for 3 days straight without issue. Then pick it up from pocket and won't start unfortunatly.

aww, was just guessing that you were using nitdroid on your n9.
anyway, plug it in and start flasher so it says 'waiting for suitable device or some ****'.

then try to turn the phone on a few times until it catches

No nitroid. Pretty clean with few tweaks and apps. Will try that thanks.

wolke 2013-10-31 19:21

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

btw, the reason i suspected nitdroid is that the phone needs a small amount of power to even boot into charging mode. this is why harmattan shuts down with a considerable amount of juice left as a general rule. folks who use different OSes drain it to nothing, more or less, and then are unable to boot into charging mode.

ive personally done this by booting into ubiboot while at low power and leaving it to die.

if nothing seems like its working, open it up and disconnect the battery, plug it in, wait a sec, and reconnect the battery.

i also suggest ordering a replacement battery if the phones more than 8 months old.

....did you say THREE DAYS?

Yes rotating between all My phones.

How do i open the device to chaning battery

wolke 2013-10-31 20:45

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

first, get a TORX PLUS screw driver {t4 i think? look up the size}. then look up one of the videos about how to open up the phone on youtube.

i cant stress enough how important it is to use a TORX PLUS and NOT a regular torx.

There's another way of getting it up and running described here:

Re: JollaMobile : Jolla continues Nokia's excellent work on #MeeGo based smartphones

that is, actually, the same way. ALSO note, that article recommends you actually flash it. you should in fact only do a load, that way you dont accidentally erase it when it gets to 11%

e.g.:
flasher -l -k ubiboot-kernel -b
