yay?

New update from MPD will read shortly

Dear Sir

Thanks you for your MPD order.

We are pleased do confirm dispatch of your phone.

Thank you for your excessive wait.

It is worth noting that your Phone will display the following characteristics

• Pixel Errors
• Random Reboots
• Mic will more than likely not work
• Phone may randomly become self aware and ring random numbers in your contact book (this scenario occurred during the Terminator films, please feel free to research self awareness Skynet)

To add further complications you have a 7 day return policy and it is highly unlikely that we will have our phones switched on nor will be answer any emails. (evil laugh) hahahaha good luck with this one.

Thanks

MPD

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

I ordered on 24th October and my status still said new up to 2 days ago. I rang twice in between and both time was told that it was ok and that sim free mobile only have a New status till they're despatched.
Two days ago when I rang them, not them ringing me, a helpful lad said that the problem was they had not taken payment for it. He got the machine and took payment there and then (I could here the receipt being printed on one of those handheld credit card jobbie). He said it would be sent out that day. So when I heard nothing yesterday or today I rang up and got Charlotte who was quite rude and told me it would be before Monday!!! When I complained about them taking money and not dispatching she just asked if I wanted to cancel.
I lost the plot and emailled Karl Borges and got this back:

Dear Mr Carr

I will get this looked into immediately and a phone sent today if not already done so.

My sincere apologies.

Karl Borges

I'm now in love with Karl and MPD!!!

This whole thing is too much to take now. I finally get mine delivered but wait, not to my house where i redirect my post but to my old house thats 2.5 hours away. humpfff!

Have they given you an authorisation number? did they say how long you might be waiting for a new device?

Re: Mobile Phones Direct N900 Customers

Dear Mobile Phones Direct.

It is with the greatest regret that I am returning my Nokia N900, due to a number of issues listed below?

• Multiple reboots
• Video no working
• Mic not working
• Pixel problems
• Random telephone calls to numbers in my phone book (Yes my N900 has become self aware just like skynet)

Talking about Skynet and terminator please find enclosed for my amusement only 1 T1000 which has morphed into a Nokia N97 (You will note this model does everything it says on the box and so much more)

I would appreciate that you return it to sender once the job has been done, if there is nobody around to do that it is programmed to morph back into a N900 and climb back into a pre enclosed SAE.

You assistance and Patience with this matter is appreciated.

Kind Regards

Disgruntled Customer

Righto- here's the latest.
Just spoke to MPD online chat. the guy on the other end was very helpful and pleasant (OMG are they actually listening to our complaints?).
I told him I'd sent an email requesting returns wotsit. He said 'that's ok, but have you tried the Nokia N900 Helpline (on the paper in the box).
No I hadn't so I did. Again- extremely helpful, gave me a reference number and told me to take it to Nokia Care's repair outlet where I have to leave it for a day and 'DONT WORRY, THEY WILL SORT IT OUT FOR YOU'.

So there's a challenge.

MORAL OF THE STORY- IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM, CALL HELPLINE FIRST. IT WARNS YOU THERE IS A LOOONG WAIT BECAUSE OF THE VOLUME OF CALLS BUT I WAITED LESS THAN A MINUTE.

i need to re-iterate that point - i've had my device since friday - and really not one even ickle problem. it has just been perfect.

Most people are posting frustrations on here, and not everyone is posting their Joy.

This does not mean i do not feel sympathy for the broken device users, i really really do. And i hope that they are able to get a new device quickly, and painlessly - and the enw device works fine for them.

I'll be posting my non-compaison review in a different thread later tonight when i get time :)

For those still waiting - good luck and speedy delivery is wished upon you :)

hmmm that sounds worringly like they'll just reflash it and give it back claiming its all working.
Really hope for your sake its not gonna go that way tho.

Hey Ninja, you must be having a nightmare :(
Please re-read the last post i made on this subject here
the bit that seems to be happenning is
Quote:

They have the responsibility to put the matter right, and should not evade this responsibility by referring you to the manufacturer in the context of a guarantee or warranty.
The other key bit is about reasonable time:
Quote:

If a repair is impossible or unfeasible, you must then be offered a replacement. Due to the emphasis on proportionality in this legislation, you must give the seller reasonable time to repair or replace before demanding your money back and you should be aware that any refund given may well take account of any use you have had of the goods since you took possession of them. If you do not want the seller to repair or replace, or they have told you they are unable to, you can then request they reduce the purchase price to an appropriate amount, although this does not affect your ability to take return the item if something else goes wrong

:) - i know you just want to get it sorted quickly - but the official/legal route will provide you the most backing if something goes wrong again :) :( :) :(

Thanks for that- very useful.
Yes, but I feel a bit better now. To be honest local repair shop is 30 minutes away and if i take it in before i can pick up saturday and do my Xmas shopping at the same time. If they fix it, it's been worth it- and if, as you say, they reflash it and it still doesn't work, then they will have it back- but at least this way I'm not just sending it back off into the ether with no idea or contol over when i get another. I suspect they'd rather fix it partly because they know they can't replace it quickly yet anyway.

hahaha maybe thats his plan. maybe he's been hiding out at the factory buggering up the odd one here and there and is gonna collect all the returns. Gah why wasnt my last week of uni last week instead. i could be on the train right now on my way to rescue my N900 from smelly essex.

Nobody here blames you.

You are so close to getting the N900 then RM "kick you in the nuts" and send it to the wrong address.

Deeply frustrating!

Yeah has wound me up quite a bit. I'm so close yet so far from getting my N900. Might see about claiming back my train fair from RM if possible since they buggered up my post redirection on this one.

I think it's in case you decide to return the device per the 7-day rule on distant selling regulations. Mind you in order to do that you will have had to NOT opened the box.
- So I can imagine a lot of N900 customers are going to be doing that:)

Note that the 7-day rule is a "change of mind" thing meant to protect people from a rash "impulse buy".
If you open the box play with the item for a few days & then decide you don't want it, that's a different thing and the Vendor is entitled to impose conditions & charges (e.g. restock fee)

Aaah man that sucks balls!!
Lets hope she's talking out her arse and it turns up sooner than that.

From her attitude it seems like they're not that fussed about the 5 working days claim! Think we all saw that one coming tho.
