This is the general TMO thread for the F(x)tec Pro1, which is sold with only Android preinstalled! See also the SailfishOS specific Pro1 thread. |
Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
Although this is true, if you look back in the thread you will see I'm not the only one to find it not always clear.
But perhaps you are correct, this is the "maemo.org > Talk > Devices > Competitors > anything goes area" But now that I think about the fx is sold with the words "Configure your device with the os you want" .. which includes sailfish ... so I would say it's a draw .. :D x |

Wow, fx pro1 hitting the big leagues!

Well at first tried the stock. As for me it is mainly a device with physical keyboard, then paid most attention to keyboard use. Unfortunately the qwertz version is not still fully supported. I mean these yellow arrow&characters. Did not find a way to type an õ character. Unfortunately in estonian it is widely used - an example: "õlu" is beer in estonian :p This reminds me my N900 where I had zero problems with german layout and estonian letters... LineageOS - installation was successfull, but again the german qwertz keyboard use is not still there. It seems that the developer is aware of the problem and it is in his todo list. SailfishOS - the suggested installation procedure did not work. Was able to flash TWRP, but that did not start - only until splashscreen and got stuck there. Tried to sideload SailfishOS with Lineage recovery but that did not succeed. The hardware seems to be good or at least satisfactory. Yes, the screen rattles a little. And my Nexus 6 seems to have better screen and camera... So - back to be box and drawer for now. Or should I put it on sale? :p |

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
Let me get asshurt real quick about that the Pro1's camera software IS ****ING GARBAGE. No autofocus, no shutter sound, and during filming I accidentally kept opening the camera settings which stopped my recording, twice!
I'll take my N900's garbage camera quality above this heap of buggy dogshit any day. Fxtec and Google really dropped the ball on the software side. Can't wait for Maemo-Leste! tl;dr: Pro1, hardware wise: AWESOME. Software wise: lol 4get about it, stick to a N900 if you dislike buggy, non-user friendly software. EDIT: If you haven't already, install Open Camera. It's miles better than the stock Snapdragon Camera: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...rge.opencamera Thanks to netman for the recommendation! |
Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
Wasmachinemann-NL, what makes you think that Maemo-leste will be better? Also glade that the open camera is working better. Btw it was one of the major issue that Linus tech guy had with the fx.

LOLOLOLOLOLOOLOLLL A decade ago?! You have no idea how much different Android is nowadays. It's still far superior than Sailfish OS. So many things are STILL missing. Example: Sailfish OS still doesn't have proper copy paste function: Selecting something on SFOS auto copies the text (lol what?!) It also STILL doesn't have the option to resize the app screen for (TRUE) multitasking.... here is a nice screenshot of my multitasking view on my Samsung S8+ that is 3 years old now ;) |

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
tl;dr
install Sailfish on Pro1, you can always go back to Android O yeah. Get some popcorn! The glibc/Android Linux war is starting again? :D Having tested Android in v2 on N900 (or similar, do not remember) the first time it was a waste of time. Then lollypop? on N9 it was already evolved. But now (on business Samsung in v9) it is really a full OS. But I do not like it and keep my private one on SFOS. Two apps simultaneously on a hand-sized screen is not multi-tasking. Android cannot read (nor write) a Linux formatted ext4 SD card! You are doomed to G**gle Shame is that nowadays you need some Android/Apple device for banking already. Or carry another TAN generator with you. And I am afraid I also have one bank that relies only on that sh*t. |

Do remember that Chenliang Chen did urge us to first extensively use the Pro1 with Android before switching to SFOS :D. (Something I really dread doing once I do receive my Pro1. :o) Additionally, Android does deliver *far* more than SFOS on at least anything GUI-candied. Side remark, from an avid FOSS and SFOS user. Being in some sense free, one can nowadays claim Android to be even more FOSS-friendly than (the official) SFOS, not? |

Using that software, Pro1 can take really awesome photos. The difference is huge compared to stock application and even much better than OpenCamera. |
Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
Might be a stupid question but do they (Gcam ports) support physical shutter button?

Also the ports don't have an option to set the default image location to the memory card which is quite annoying. "There is an app for that" but... |
Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
Pretty good write up with only one big mistake, in saying that sailfish is a custom form of android. Other then that it was a pretty fair.

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
Hello everyone. Anyone canceled the order and got the money back? I tried to get refund for several reasons. I got a mail to confirm and was asked to explain. Since then nothing happened. That was at the beginning of February.
I never got the phone. Order is still in status process. |
Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
Would suggest to try again. With the chinese new year mixed with corona virus closing factory and such has probably caused a lot of problems plus a flood of mails.

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
I work for Helsinki city and just got an email that all phone deliveries are delayed by the supplier and it may take four months to get new phones. So the situatioln is affecting everyone.

In case [pun intended] you haven't seen this already: https://community.fxtec.com/topic/28...rt-case-cover/
Didn't try because I haven't got flip cover for my Pro1, but sure it looks interesting. |

There should be something like a counter for community members who already have there FXtec pros. I'd guess it at about a dozen right now? Still lots of pre-orders not shipped, I'm guessing?

I feel like that could be done with a poll at the start of this thread.

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
Is there any way to limit the available screen rotations?
Like every SFOS device I've had, the rotation options from the UI are horizontal, vertical or auto. Very minor problem is the grand scheme, but one minor annoyance I've had with the Pro1 is there isn't much in the way of visual cues of the physical orientation when picking it up. A number of times I've answered the phone, only to find I'm holding it upside down. Obviously I could turn of rotation, but that makes using the keyboard a bit of a faff. If it were possible to limit available rotations to 0deg and 90deg, it might be a useful hack. Alternatively turn off the rotation, except when the keyboard is open? In fact, that might be a better option for me. |
Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
There is a patch that allows screen rotation except upside-down portrait:
https://openrepos.net/content/alina/...ailfishos-apps Would that be any good? |
Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone
Thanks for that Pichlo, I had missed that one.
It works sometimes, but it seems easy to catch it out. I was imagining there would be some simple rotation script somewhere on the device that could be hacked about. It seems that even being locked up at home, I haven't found the time to dig into the inner workings of the SFOS UI. Must try harder :-) |
