I think I understand what the problem is. Looks like Nokia is still looking for a guy to manage this whole shipping process:

Er, pick your flavor: "We don't know", "January 15, 2010", "We've started shipping them out last week", "yesterday, but we didn't get them yet from Nokia"...

I called this morning UK nokia retail and they said N900 is going to be released this thursday (Nov 20th). "N900 - believe it or not...":D

They seem to have been saying Thursday fairly consistently for a while now, but they did the exact same thing with the Monday the 9th date as well, so I still wouldn't bank on it.

The reason we have heard nothing is the shipments are / were probably on a boat from Korea. Nokia has the PR sense of a rock.

If Nokia were really smart they'd have put a guy on the boat taking pictures, displaying his location using GPS and writing updates. They'd turn a silly long winded shipping process into a marketing event for how useful the thing is on the move.

Of course they don't have to mention the expense of getting a decent internet connection on a ship.

I SUGGEST :

We start bombarding Nokia headquaters with emails of disappointment about the N900 release and then we may get somewhere --- as its already proved, talking to MPD, Nokia sales etc is pointless (400+ pages on the delay, still non the wiser!)

As you can see we are living the slogan of Nokia:

"Nokia is Connecting People"
.. even if it's only because of their on release date/delays ;-)

Re: N900 shipping delayed

I ship by air, truck, boat and the only time there is a gap of updated information is when on boat- because there is nothing to update- it is on a boat for days, then sits waiting for customs to decide if they will board or not for inspection. THEN it is released to inbound and only THEN is there a status update for deliveries.

This is the only thing that makes sense as far as no real information updates since they shipped and nobody has the N900 yet.

Nokia confirmed that the N900s are on the way, still being delivered to shops.

Just found a new press release from Nokia Germany.

The E72 is now avaible. Buy it and get it at 28th November.
Well.. according to this, the N900 would be my new years present?

I think I'm off to the HTC HD2 - although I hate Windows Mobile...

The HTC HD2 does not look bad. The only problem is I am not fun of windows mobile.... I am waiting for my N900. Until then, I'm hanging on my N95.

My N95 just broken  hanging around with the 7710.

The problem is, I bought the N900 with a contract, I paid for 2 months and have no device to use it with it...

Is that you Gilligan?!?!? Did the Professor make some of boat contraption using N900's to escape the island?

I'm too lazy to photoshop S.S. Nokia on that.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship.

Actually, Dell is hoping a LOT of us call the 877 number to cancel our orders ;)

I might not want to laugh, since they may cancel for us.

They canceled on me -

I ordered within the window for the $441 sale. Got a confirmation email for the purchase so I went ahead and canceled my Amazon preorder.

About 12 hours later Dell send me a notice that my order was canceled. I call and they tell me it's a problem with my credit card and I should straighten it up with my issuer. I call the credit card company and nothing's wrong. They actually give me the confirmation number they gave Dell for the authorization request.

Call Dell and they give me a direct number to a "specialist" assigned to my case. I leave her three or four messages but she never got back to me. Finally, about a week later I called sales, who transferred me to credit card services, who transfered me to a customer representative who told me that the problem wasn't with my credit card but that the product had probably run out??!!!!! In any case, she says, they don't have that product any longer so she can't reinstate my order...

With the extra rebate from Amazon the difference shrunk to about $40, so I decided to reorder from Amazon and let it go (though losing over a month in my order priority).

Dell are as bad as Nokia in my book of customer service.

Sick funny if us current Dell dealers are actually cancelled, but we do not know it yet.

Kind of like the Sixth Sense, but renamed the N900th Sense
