There have been several reports of unproblematic cases in the FX-Forum.
Just get in contact with FX Service.
(Looking at their Twitter they must have plenty of time playing games and asking for more suggestions what to play.)

OK, putting a limit on rotation turned out to be really simple, with a little research.

Thanks to an answer to this question posted on t.j.c, then sane rotation is only one edit away...

In the file /usr/lib/qt5/qml/Sailfish/Silica/Page.qml, edit the line change "return allowed" to read "return Orientation.Portrait | Orientation.Landscape". (Line #117 in my copy in 3.3.0.14 Rokua)

People from the GBATemp community has showed some love to the Pro 1. It's on the front page right now.

Is there a way to change the boot screen on the Pro1?

(It says "Powered by Android" and I'd like to edit that to reflect that I'm running SFOS)

epninety 2020-04-18 00:28

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone

Coderus (I think) has a nice little program to do the job, but it's quite easy to do manually if you're happy on the command line. Have a look at the Pro1 tips thread on t.j.c

But also SFOS is (in some extent) powered by Android so that statement is just correct :D

Hmm. No.
Having a kernel with some drivers meant to be used by android does not make a device android-powered.

Just here to spread some bad mood.
Is nobody in here smelling a second Jolla tablet?
Is everyone still convinced this phone is actually coming into existence more than the Turing phone or Jolla tablet did?
Because I'm seeing the exact same movie rolling in front of our eyes right now.

Don't feel bad for venting.
And i figure playing captain obvious and point out the difference in detail to past events will not help.

Have you seen the latest update from 17.04?

Quote:

Quick update for you from the factory.

The screens arrived and are now ready to undergo final production processes and quality checks. We are hoping to ship a small number of units by the middle of next week. Once we have allocated stock, you will receive an update with shipping details and your tracking number.

Just so you are aware, with everything that is going on at the moment we are still short staffed in the factory which is one of the reasons why we are limited to the number of devices we can produce and ship. There are also still complications with regards to transportation, and this has caused delays to essential components deliveries over the last couple of weeks.

As always, we will continue to update you as and when we receive any new updates and information about your order.

Have a good weekend.
This implies (to me) Chen is in the factory again since his convincing physical presence there, lead to the last wave of shipments before travel ban and lockdown in January.

What do you mean? Some batches were already sent out....
A lot of people already got their phones.

It made me laugh...when I read it ON my Pro1 :)

Sorry for those who are still waiting, but it's real and some have shipped - not sure how many but at least around 1000 based on serial numbers, before the current situation shut down the factory.

It's a great device too, for me at least there are very few things I would change, and my only real complaint running the community SFOS as a daily driver is the bluetooth. That's not a criticism, it was the same for the community builds for Xperia X and Gemini.

Oh,
I really do understand what he meant!
A lot of people received their tablet. A few even with cover. Others were waiting for next batch ...

Not that I want to say FxTec is doing the same here! (nor even near to this)
We have a complete different situation due to a world-wide crisis.
And FxTec is open with their announcements.

But for people still waiting this might just not be enough.

Well that's exactly my point. What's now apparently on the verge of being shipped, is all still pre-orders.
Of course the phones are there, a small number already have them, of course more people are gonna get them.
But that was the same for Turing Phones and Jolla Tablets. Both started out as Kickstarter/Indiegogo campaigns, both successful. They had production problems, delays after delays, now there are a couple hundred out there in the wild, make it even a thousand. But not even all the pre-order customers got theirs, not even refunds got to everyone.
Both products never became available for regular buyers. I haven't pre-ordered, I'm waiting for an opportunity to just buy it like a normal consumer - you know, with the standard protections and all. If I press that "Buy Now" button on Fxtec Pro homepage, it says 4-6 weeks to ship. Why am I not believing that?

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone

This has been rehashed so many times I can't be bothered to even start.

However you look at it, to the best of my knowledge they've still shipped more open, hwkb phones this year than apple, samsung and huawei combined.

Those companies must have user forums, why don't you go over there and whine about them not shipping the device you want? They won't care, nothing will change, but at least you'll know that they have the resources so that they *could*, you know, if they gave a **** about what you want.

Or do you think that Chen & his colleagues could somehow make all of this better, but they just don't want to?

That is just not true.
One might get the impression from guys asking about refund here instead at FX directly.
(And not reporting back here when it succeeded)
To my knowledge, everyone who wanted a refund, got it.
At least there is no indication of anyone complaining about not getting money back after refund request with FX Service.

Good for us then that FX did no Crowdfunding but convinced some investor to back them.
Whole other situation imo.
Especially in this situation it is the difference of convincing few investors that a global lockdown is affecting shipment and not 1000 individual backers pointing out similarities with Youyota or Turing ;)

/rumor
They asked current users for suggestions towards a next device indicating they might have had backing or at least planning beyond Proš early.
/rumor read from private/unofficial communication, sry FX if that was intended to be kept secret.

EDIT, oh they asked slightly related in public recently: Tweet1 Tweet2

Duh, because nobody else in the world is making open, hwkb phones (if we're considering Cosmo Communicator not a phone).

I'm perfectly certain Chen & his colleagues are doing everything they can to make more phones and sell as many as possible. So did Jolla. But they might not succeed, right? I'm just saying I see a lot of common story points with devices that failed.

I meant that some backers of Turing phone and Jolla tablet were never refunded, not Fxtec Pro.

You're right, I thought Fxtec had started out with a crowdfunding campaign, but they didn't, I must've read that wrong.
In fact, it says on this other website (it's in German) that for pre-orders your money only is transferred once the device starts shipping?? Is that true?

That was my thought when Chen announced that he's going to build a qwerty slider, and I was wrong.

With all delays, holidays, global crises, godzilla, etc.. F(x)tec is asking for improvement suggestions, for software and for hardware. I feel optimistic about this project and super curious about stuff to come.

Not fully by the exact words in the outcome.
The honest try was to collect money only 6 weeks before shipment in august and then ship during sep/oct.
Now that sadly escalated with supply chain delays in septemper, production problems in november and chinese new year fading into lockdown.
Now sadly people that payed in august have not recieved anything yet.

For new orders i guess they will pull the money from your CC as soon as you order and "try" to deliver i 4-6 weeks.
I measure them on their self set goals only.
Now that they are confident to communicate more devices are produced currently, i wait if devices actually leave factory next week. If not it is worth to ask for reasons why they went of track imo.
But reading again it is also about shipment difficulties currently.

3 Attachment(s)
Regarding suggestions for the next device... Vertical slider with T9 keyboard! Very old-fashioned, but would hopefully find a lot of support - fits into a pocket, battery lasts for ages, shiny gadget, neat RGB backlighting for nearly all buttons. Working phone to be carried everywhere, and not as bulky as typical pocket computers.

Or, make something like Blackberry Visa. With square display like Passport, and hidable keyboard - but that would require cooperating with BB patents.

Thank you. Best wishes.

Is it just me who has this behaviour on a Proš?:
After or while a phone call the screen stays black, even if the sensor isn´t covered anymore. I have to use the power button to switch the screen on, to end the call or make other actions. That´s a little bit annoying over time.

epninety 2020-05-12 12:53

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone

Not just you, I had that behaviour too.

I have a feeling it was different with a recent update (3.3.0.14 or 3.3.0.16), but I can't check at the moment as I've had to stop using the Pro1 for now.

Wich version of Android?

mosen 2020-05-12 17:18

Re: Are you Ready? F(x)tec Pro 1 HW Keyboard Phone

Expected behaviour currently is that it can take up to 3 seconds to unlock during call using proximity sensor.

What happened for me is i am pressing power button too quick instead of waiting the 2-3 seconds for proximity unlock.
Only to then see the screen unlocked for a split second before my power press belatedly sends it back to black.

If it does not unlock at all after the 3 seconds, try a triple power button press to disable the proximity sensor temporarily. Learned that on TJC.

To test if proximity sensor hw is ok, just type
Code:

*#*#310#*#*
in dialer for CSD Tool.

It was also theorized that it gets worse with uptime, so to not reboot the phone but restart sensors:
Code:

devel-su systemctl restart sensorfwd
I was suggested to try
Code:

mcetool --set-ps-on-demand=enabled
which supposedly slows down interaction with the phone. So i only did temporarily.

Also mcetool is worth a try.
Code:

mcetool --set-ps-mode=disabled
mcetool --set-ps-mode=enabled

I tried all above and at some point i thought the problem is gone, but i am not sure anymore if i just learned to wait the 3 seconds out :D

Sooo, did anyone with preorder receive their phone from the recent batch that was mentioned?

Still waiting to hear anything from mine.

Don't thank me, i just need to get the burden of my chest to have received the thing already in november._
Least i can do is share my limited findings.
Much more thank deserve Michal, Adam and TheKit.
They are seemingly always available and answer on the same day. It really makes fun to follow the progress being made.

@Boxeri, it hurts to read. So sorry for you...
The only light i can add to the recently delivered Proš is that new customers still get the 4-6 weeks delivery time displayed when they order and FX did confirm they are confident to be able to deliver in that timeframe to new customers when someone asked rather direct on twitter.
So my hopes are high preorderers will all be catered in the next wave finally.

Open the slider and press the plastic behind the screen on the side of the proximity sensor - it may be loose and this causes the proximity sensor to get weird. My phone is doing this - seems like a hw problem - maybe a screw is missing - so I'm opening the keyboard very carefully as spring open is dislocating that part of the back again.

This might be the issue with proximity in SFOS too.

Good to hear!

May I ask when did you pay/received the order confirmation from Fxtech?

I noticed that since the payment I have changed creditcard so couldnt verify the exact date, but I have received the confirmation on 4th of august. My initial order was placed on 30th of July if I read these emails correctly.

I think I paid in the first days of August as well, so you must be close to the top of the queue. It also matters whether you ordered the qwerty or qwertz -version. I guess this batch was all qwertz.

Well that did nothing as I was on the phone today and the phone changed to speaker phone while I was talking with the phone on the side of my face.
I hardly use the keyboard so I am not slamming it closed.

The other night I was on a call and the only thing the phone did was to open the menu from the top of the display while I was on the phone and did not open a whole bunch of apps.

This is really getting annoying. Now the phone has another issue, just about every time I turn on the display or turn off the display with the power button the camera comes up ready to take a picture. And after the couple of times this has happened I have been making sure I am not pressing the shutter button by mistake.

I am beginning to wonder if this is Android 9 or the phone. Considering there have not been any updates to Android.
